WOODBRIDGE, VA — A community vaccination center will return to Woodbridge next week as the county prepares to administer booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine. The mass vaccination site will reopen at the former Gander Mountain location on Thursday, Oct. 7, according to the Virginia Department of Health and the Prince William Health District.

The site, located at 14011 Worth Ave in Woodbridge, will be open from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Appointments are available now.

In September, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted unanimously to reopen the vaccination site on a month-to-month lease. Supervisors said the decision to reopen the site was based on the authorization of booster shots, and the expected authorization of COVID-19 vaccines for children under the age of 12.

The Gander Mountain vaccination site was open from Feb. 2021 through the end of June 2021. According to county officials, the site administered more than 155,000 vaccinations.

"Because of the volume of residents that received their initial vaccination at Gander Mountain, utilizing this location again for booster shots will enable the Health District to effectively meet the anticipated demand," County Executive Chris Martino said in a report to supervisors.

Though the vaccination site is reopening to administer third shots, first and second shots of the COVID-19 vaccines will also be available. COVID-19 vaccines are still free to all residents.

"Vaccination remains the best way to end the pandemic and unvaccinated individuals are at the highest risk of severe illness due to COVID-19," the Virginia Department of Health said in a news release. "Everyone 12 or older who lives or works in Virginia is eligible to be vaccinated."

Residents can schedule an appointment on the Virginia Department of Health's website or by calling 877-829-4682. Assistance is available in English, Spanish, and more than 100 other languages.
