GREENFIELD, WI — The City of Greenfield Common Council is slated Tuesday to discuss the possibility of moving a number of polling stations across the city from schools to a church and a community center.

Four items were put on Tuesday's agenda in relation to moving the polling locations. Online documents show the City has been eying Adoration Lutheran Church, the Greenfield Community Center and the Greenfield Public Library as possible locations to replace polling that currently takes place in schools.

City documents said since 2019 the city has been working on moving polling locations out of schools where voting areas cannot be separated from students effectively.

Here's how polling locations could be affected by the City's plans:

  • Ward 18 from the Greenfield Public Library and Wards 19, 20 and 21 from Elm Dale School would be relocated to Adoration Lutheran Church, 3840 W. Edgerton Ave. More information.
  • Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 from Glenwood Elementary School would be relocated to the Greenfield Community Center, 7215 W. Cold Spring Road. More information.
  • Wards 13, 14 and 15 from King of Glory Church would be relocated to the Greenfield Public Library, 5310 W. Layton Ave. More information.

According to city documents online, the city has been looking for a polling location to replace Elm Dale School. There was an interest in Adoration Lutheran Church but when the city first asked the church said it did not want to make a decision without a pastor. A pastor has since come to the church and according to city documents, the church approved the idea.

When it comes to voting at King of Glory Church, those wards could be incorporated into another location because they serve fewer people than other locations and new technology has helped make voting easier on elections workers. Combining the Church wards into voting at the Greenfield Public Library would save money and help with staffing, city documents online said. The King of Glory Church location would no longer be needed for voting.
