3 Taken To Hospitals After Apartment Complex Fire In West Allis

WEST ALLIS, WI — Three people — including two children — were taken to hospitals after a fire Wednesday at a West Allis apartment complex, according to authorities.

Firefighters responded around 4:30 a.m. to Morgan Grove Apartments in the 10000 block of West Wildwood Lane, the West Allis Fire Department said in a news release.

“Upon arrival of police and fire, a large amount of fire was observed from the exterior of the building,” the news release said.

Two children and two adults were rescued, according to authorities, who said two children and one adult were brought to hospitals. A soot-covered cat was found wandering in the area and was being taken to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Center, police said.

The city of West Allis and the Red Cross were working to assist those affected by the blaze, according to the fire department.

The building was not protected by a sprinkler system and the structure was left uninhabitable after the fire, the news release said, noting that over 80 firefighters from five departments responded to the scene. The cause of the incident is under investigation, according to authorities.
