3 Killed After DPW Truck Collides With Traffic In Wauwatosa: Police

Three people died in a crash involving multiple vehicles on Mayfair Road near Wisconsin Avenue Tuesday afternoon, police said in reports.

WAUWATOSA, WI — Three people are dead after a Milwaukee DPW truck ran into vehicles in traffic on Mayfair Road near Wisconsin Avenue Tuesday afternoon, Wauwatosa Police Chief James McGillis told reporters at a news conference streamed by WISN 12 and other outlets.

Ten vehicles were involved, MacGillis told reporters. The DPW truck was involved in a minor crash on Mayfair Road near Watertown Plank Road just before the more severe and fatal crash near Wisconsin Avenue, according to MacGillis. The truck's driver was among the three dead, MacGillis said.

Two additional people were brought to area hospitals and are in unknown condition, MacGillis noted. The crash was reported around 12 p.m. with closures expected to last for hours, an update from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation noted.

The closures on Mayfair Road were expected to last for hours into the afternoon as police investigated the fatal crash, according to authorities.

The closure was expected to be "long-term" pending the results of the investigation, Wauwatosa police said in a tweet. The northbound lanes of Mayfair Road were closed between Wisconsin Avenue and Potter Road. The southbound lanes of Mayfair Road were closed between Watertown Plank Road and Blue Mound Road, police said around 1 p.m.
