WAUWATOSA, WI— A major closure will begin on Friday for the Wisconsin Zoo Interchange North Leg Project. Interstate-41 in both directions will be closed from Jan. 14 at 11 p.m. until. Jan 17th at 5 a.m. to demolish the old Union Pacific Railroad bridge over I-41.

I-41 will be closed between Burleigh Street and Watertown Plank Road.

Drivers should expect additional traffic on Mayfair Road, Watertown Plank Road, 124th Street, Burleigh Street, and other roadways near the alternate routes.

WIS-100 is the preferred detour route.

The North Leg is the final segment to complete the Zoo Interchange. This 1.7-mile reconstruction project will expand I-41 to eight lanes from Swan Boulevard to Burleigh Street in the city of Wauwatosa in Milwaukee County, according to the project's website.

The project includes new bridges at Mayfair Road, North Avenue, Meinecke Street and a new bridge for the Union Pacific Railroad.

North Leg construction has already started with the reconstruction of the Center Street Bridge, Wauwatosa School's pedestrian bridge and a deep storm sewer, the website said.
