School Board President Resigns Amid Controversy, Citing Threat: Report

WAUWATOSA, WI — The president of the Wauwatosa School Board resigned on Wednesday after receiving a "threat" in an unshared email, according to a report.

Board president Steve Doman asked to resign immediately after he received an email that he "can only perceive as a threat to the safety of myself and my family," Fox 6 Milwaukee reported.

It's not clear what was in the email. But Doman had been surrounded by controversy since another board member revealed the president secretly discussed a public records request in a closed meeting, potentially violating open meetings laws, according to a separate Fox 6 report.

"It has been my privilege to serve the School District of Wauwatosa for the last five years, and I am proud of the work we have accomplished," Doman said in a statement.

But some parents had called for his removal.

"We need you to correct this school board when they're doing things illegal and behind closed doors that they don't want us to know about," one parent said at a school board meeting on Monday. "[Doman] needs to be removed from his position as school board (president)."

"Mr. Doman, you knowingly violated open meetings law," another parent said in a public comment session. "Board members, please carefully consider who you elect as the next school board president."

The board will meet as soon as possible to discuss the process and timeline for filling Doman's vacant seat, the school district said. As of Friday, Doman's photo and information no longer appeared on the school board's web page.
