Hello, Majorly/Archives/1, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing!--71.231.130.56 23:56, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking

[change source]

The problem I have with blocking him is that a case can be made that most the RfD's he tagged are valid because of being dictionary definitions. Of course they should just be tagged as such and left since all dic-def's automatically qualify for deletion under a previous RfD, but thats a different story. Personally I want to do block as it is all slightly fishy, but can not find a justification to do it. -- Creol(talk) 13:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, were someone from his shared IP to go and do something like create an account to use to attack, a ban on a bad account would also normally include a block on the IP he is editing from for 24 hours.. :) -- Creol(talk) 13:48, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
His creating articles with the RfD notice in them was strange, and no doubt User:SimpleFascism was him too. Majorly (hot!) 13:48, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Haylie Duff

[change source]

Just letting you know that I removed the QD tag you placed on Haylie Duff. The original article did not state why the subject was notable, but with expanding the article no longer falls under the notability reason for QDelete.-- Creol(talk) 02:12, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine then. Majorly (hot!) 11:42, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help with the user-name situation, Majorly. SlimVirgin 05:01, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, you have been a fast worker here. I can't keep up with you! :P Hope to nominate you for sysop someday.-- Tdxiang 09:44, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the revert

[change source]

Thanks for the revert on my user page. I've pissed off a fair amount of vandals during my time here, so my userpage gets vandalized pretty often. Cheers, PTO 20:36, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! Are you going to get your username changed here as well? Majorly (hot!) 20:41, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I probably will at some point. The username change process is a whole lot simpler here, so I could just send one of our bureaucrats an e-mail requesting it. Maybe I should get on that soon... PTO 20:45, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[change source]

The quickest way I've found is to have another window open to en:wiki, look up the article, and copy-paste the iw here. That makes it easy to add en:Article name to the list and add simple:Article name to the English interwiki list (in alphabetical order of course) ;-) · Tygartl1·talk· 16:49, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would accept if nominated. Thank you very much for the compliment! :) -  BrownE34  talk  contribs  16:16, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ADMIN edit

[change source]

Hi Majorly,

About this edit - I've just undone it. I don't want this to sound aggressive, but seeing as you and J Di have obviously conflicted on a few things in the past, I thought this might have affected this edit. He said moved his name to 'active' a couple of days ago, and just because he hasn't edited for two days, it doesn't really mean he's inactive. I'd probably give it another month before moving him back to inactive. If he's come on and said that he's going to start editing, he's probably going to be around even if he hasn't actually edited yet (my talk page gets several checks every day, but (unfortunately) I don't edit every day). Let me know if I've got it all wrong, as I often do :) Thanks, Archer7 - talk 13:32, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator

[change source]

Congratulations, you're now an administrator. I suggest you take a quick re-read of our policies and guidelines, and make sure you check your email regularly. If you ever need any help at all, you can always ask me or another administrator. Good works :) --vector ^_^ (talk) 06:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Vector! Majorly (talk) 08:25, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and thanks for the support. Majorly (talk) 16:38, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations on the Staus change, don't be afraid to ask, if you need any help :) --Eptalon 20:49, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Hancock is an important person! According to the English Wikipedia, it says, "John Hancock is an important person! On the English Wikipedia, it says: "John Hancock (January 12, 1737 (O.S.) – October 8, 1793 (N.S.)) was President of the Second Continental Congress and of the Congress of the Confederation; first Governor of Massachusetts; and the first person to sign the United States Declaration of Independence." If possible, please restore it. Coffsneeze 21:25, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe - the content was: "John Hancock was an artist that came from Virginia, he liked bananas a lot and he loved a girl named Hanna" Better to start it from scratch I think :) Majorly (talk) 21:26, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You could have replace the nonsense with the simpler translation of the complex English article, instead of deleting it. Coffsneeze 21:31, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why should I? It was a nonsense page. I had no idea if there was a real guy named John Hancock, and if there was, another kind user can create a page for him :) Majorly (talk) 21:33, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About MediaWiki:Revertpage

[change source]

About MediaWiki:Revertpage, see if creating a template (let's name it UserTwo) like this:

$1

And changing the message code to such:

Reverted edits by $2 (talk) to last version by UserTwo

Would help Huji 16:02, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think who it is reverted back to makes no difference - a link really isn't needed. Majorly (talk) 17:23, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fine Huji 17:54, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for expressing your opinion, However, I have made numerous edits to the Simple Wikipedia as an anon IP Editor. Cheers. Meateater 12:56, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking crosswiki vandal

[change source]

You blocked User:82.45.40.89 as a crosswiki vandal, for three months. I'm not sure if this really needed to take place, because this account didn't made any changes in Simple WP yet. If I were you, I would perhaps put a not on the user's talk page, linking to the evidence about its crosswiki vandalism history, and block it for a short period of time (just to ensure its being blocked on other projects wouldn't let him shift to Simple WP). It is likely that, for example, two months from now, a legitimate editor wants to edit from this same IP.... I dunno, may be I'm wrong. What do you think? - Huji reply 12:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am very sure. If a legitimate editor wants to edit, they can request an unblock. Have a look at the user's edits on en.wiki. We do not want any chance of that happening here. Majorly (talk) 12:15, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Your being this sure makes me feel sure about it as well - Huji reply 12:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alastor Moody has a Es-1 userbox on his Wikimedia Commons userpage, but he only understands two words. Should he have that Es-1 userbox on his page? Panda Bear 20:00, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure why you're asking me on this wiki... where does it say what words he knows? Majorly (talk) 20:02, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He told me that he understood only two words, "hola" (hello) and "gracias" (thank you). Here's when he told me. [1] It doesn't say anywhere what words he knows. Panda Bear 23:18, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is really an issue to bring up on Commons, I think. Anyway, es-1 means basic, and that is basic, even if it's just two words. Majorly (talk) 23:24, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[change source]

Dear Majorly, I thank you for supporting me in my request for bureaucratship, which eventually did not suceed. Nope, I don't use the word failure here. Failure comes only when you fail to realise, when you fail to continue. It has been a great experience here and I will still continue my job here. I know, it's not that you disapprove of me, but it's that we do not need anymore bureaucrats. Sure, I'm open. I'm really fine with that. I'm sorry if my response came late. School camps and donation drives have geld me up, I'm sorry. Thank you once again!-- Tdxiang 02:41, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious, but why have you blocked Choosnick? From what I read on the block log, it stated that she was a crosswiki stalker although just to tell (or voice) my opinion, I doubt that she is a crosswiki harrasser. Anyhow, it could be that she came to the simplewiki to start over which shouldn't be a big deal as long as she dosen't continue on her past habits. --§ Alastor Moody (T + C) 06:55, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Choosnink is part of a sockpuppet farm, who have been harrassing and stalking a certain user. Xe came here to continue that, through e-mails, and other various methods I won't go into here. But the fact is, we do not welcome users like this. Majorly (talk) 14:34, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Choosnink

[change source]

I recently saw you blocked 'Choos'nink, who I thought was a reularly great contributor. I have seen Choosnink do many great things, none of which deserve an infinite/indefinite block from Wikipædia. I thought she was working to build a better web encyclopædia. Please explain. j.rand|talk|contribs|email 05:44, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Majorly has responded to the similar question a few lines above. - Huji reply 06:39, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JustJacklen

[change source]

Why was JustJacklen from Wikipedia? I remember her being quite a good contributor. Respond on my talk page. j. rand|talk| contribs|email 04:28, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll answer here so as to not split up the conversation: same reason as Choosnink above. Please read the block reasons in future before asking me about sensitive blocks. Majorly (talk) 07:27, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by "sensitive" j. rand|talk| ε contribs|email 02:13, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sensitive as in not to be discussed out in the open with just anyone. Majorly (talk) 07:54, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts to User page

Looking through my user history, I noticed you reverted an edit made by an IP address which was vandalism. Thank you so much, i didn't even know that had happened ! LIAM !

My dear Majorly! :)

[change source]

You stole those words right out of my mouth, sweetie :) It's beautiful to see you here! I needed a change of air for a few days... I've been working at Quote, Source, and here to clear off the EnWP stress... and it's wonderful to have a friend like you by one's side while away from "home" ;) Side note: thanks for reverting that vandalism to my talk page earlier! (it sure was interesting, wasn't it...) Have a beautiful weekend! :) Love, Phaedriel - 19:49, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! :)

[change source]

Thank you so much for the wonderful, beautiful gift, dear Majorly! :) You have brightened an otherwise dull, grey day beyond words, my friend :) It's great to work with you here! By the way, there are a few thoughts I'd like to share with you, so keep an eye on your mailbox - I promise news in the next hours... or maybe a day ;) Again, thanks so much! Love, Phaedriel - 05:20, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes

[change source]

Actually, we don't normally allow any userboxes apart from babel boxes and Wikimedia-related ones ("This user is an admin", "this user works at Wikiquote" etc). We do it because we thought it just caused unnecesssary conflict in the community. Archer7 - talk 08:28, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you move protect my talkpage?

[change source]

Why did you move protect my talkpage? Because of Persian Poet Girl? Ionas Rand [i.'ɔ.na.sız tɔk] 02:09, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's a preventative measure. Majorly (talk) 02:10, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you - again! :)

[change source]

Thank you for all your support, both at EN and here, dear Majorly - thanks to you, I discovered a whole new world of possibilities at this lovely place. I owe you dearly. Tons of xoxox, Phaedriel - 17:17, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's wrong, dear?

[change source]

Majorly, sweetie, I was just about to message you today at EN to let you know about the CU voting, and I just learned taht you've decided to retire there. What's wrong, dear? This is very shocking news, and I want you to know that my mail is open for you, and I'm waiting right here to listen to you. Is there anything I can do to help you? I can hop on to IRC if you need, even tho I haven't been there for a while now. Just don't leave me hanging - I'm very worried about you, my friend. Lots of love, Phaedriel - 00:36, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Majorly, Please Don't !!!.. I know WikipediaEN is screwed but that is no reason to retire from there and as I mentioned before, there are only a few admins that I admire and if you leave, it will leave a huge gap.. we already lost 2 admins in the last 2 weeks already :( ..--Cometstyles 13:12, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dude don't worry about it :) I need a break from there (and meta, but not as much), and at the moment I'm uncomfortable editing there. I'm also very busy IRL... Majorly (talk) 14:10, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yay! You haven't left! :-) --Boricuæddie 18:23, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I left where it says I have - enwp. I hope to edit here more. Majorly (talk) 18:26, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know. I mean you haven't left Wikimedia projects entirely :-) --Boricuæddie 18:47, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Majorly, thanks for this block. I'm surprised the vandal wasn't blocked before, with a history of vandalism going back to last year! Let me also add that I'm sorry to see you leave enwiki, but I know that there is a lot of discord there and I understand. --Kyoko 06:21, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be a good idea to add information about the block on the user page too. - Huji reply 10:46, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Saying what? Majorly (talk) 12:31, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Things like the original account it was a sock of, etc. - Huji reply 18:56, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know he has withdrawn, but by allowing him to blank the item instead of closing early and sending it to the archive we have no record should he make a second request. That is why I reverted. --`Barliner´******`talk´ 15:45, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Majorly, first at all, thanks a lot for all your contributions and efforts to improve Wikipedia. A question: The logo put at the TM-XML definition was removed from Commons by you giving as a reason in the history that it is unfree. The logo was created by us at OHIM (European Office for the Harmonization in the Internal Market) and haven't issued any copyright restriction, in fact the TM-XML is an open standard initiative that welcomes to everybody to use and participate on its development ... what or how should we do to have it rightly? I had a look at the wikipedia logo guidelines definition and didn't see what to do. Thanks! Antonio Grau 15:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC+1)

Leave me a message at Commons then. Majorly (talk) 22:50, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Sorry to let you the message in the wrong place. Antonio Grau 15:31, 26 October 2007
