TVLINE | Topher Grace, Wilmer Valderrama, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher did not return for Part 2. Wilmer’s absence, in particular, was felt, since Fez and Sherri were an item at the end of Part 1. Was there ever a plan to bring him back — perhaps a plan that got derailed by Hollywood’s dual strikes and his need to return to CBS’ NCIS as soon as the work stoppage was over?
We always hope to have everybody back. We come up with ideas, we bat things around… but when you get down to the nitty-gritty of it all, it’s about scheduling. To commit our time to fleshing out a story and writing a script, we have to know that, for example, Wilmer will be available. Just from a purely practical production standpoint, if it gets unpredictable, that’s challenging. Wilmer’s busy, so we decided to let the show be about our kids and let it stand more on its own this season.
I will be grateful for the rest of eternity for the contributions of the legacy cast members from That ’70s Show in Part 1. Them returning was a blessing, and they handed the show off in a delightful way. We still have Laura [Prepon, who recurs as Donna], and she’s wonderful. She directed the entire Part 3, and she performed a lot in it. Focusing on our characters now, and weaving in That ’70s Show people, is a recipe that works for us.
Absolutely cannot wait for part 3! This show is very enjoyable and I hope Netflix renews it quickly!
I started watching this last night. Haven’t finished it yet(i will), that being said, it starts off slow but does get better with each episode. I have to say Red and Kitty and Bob are the best things about this show. Other than the Asian kid, who is hilarious, the rest of the young cast just don’t have the charisma of the original cast. That being said I still don’t hate it. Maybe if it was on more frequently, like the original, there would be more time to actually get to know and like the cast? Or maybe just because I was an adult in the 90’s and just can’t relate to the kids now, who knows.
Yeah, I feel like the new cast starts to develop chemistry as the first season goes on and its definitely better in the second season. It would be even better if they had more episodes. But overall, I find it to be one of the better reboots, and it has a lot to do with how good Red and Kitty are.
The only thing I really wish is that they could get Topher Grace back as Eric more regularly for this. He was always in character who held the whole thing together on 70’s and I think he could be a huge part of this show too even in a more limited role. Even just for the pilot it was a whole different dynamic having him there interacting with his parents and Donna, and I thought he even had a natural chemistry with the actress who plays Leia. Just feels like something is missing without him there.
I’m hoping, Randy can come back now that Eric is out of the picture, and can just hang out at the house and Leah’s new job, and as potential side love interest for donna
Laurie can still show up. In the original show she was played in later seasons by Christina Moore. Bring back Christina as Laurie. It’d be nice to see Leia interact with her aunt.
I’m really not sure why anyone thinks this show is good. It’s nothing compared to ots predecessor That 70s show. It’s a bad reboot and the Asian kid is atrocious!
Have you heard of this thing called different opinions and tastes?
Unless Eric comes back, I am tapped out of it. I love Red and Kitty, Bob , Donna and Leo but Eric Forman was the heart of this show. He’s also the new focused main characters dad. I wish Topher could come in and make the magic with Red again. Their dynamic was always hysterical.
