Prior to tearing his ACL, T.J. Hockenson was the fantasy TE2 through Week 15. In 2022, he was the TE2, so if he were fully healthy we’d be discussing him as a top-five option. Unfortunately, per our injury expert Jeff Mueller, Week 1 will mark just seven months and 10 days into his recovery, so he’s a candidate for PUP and could miss half the season. He’s also in danger of a slow return to production and is dealing with a quarterback change. As the TE13 off the board, I’m out.

Minnesota is leaving TE T.J. Hockenson on the Physically Unable to Perform List.

Fantasy Impact:

Hockenson will miss the first four games of the season, but even after that it seems like a long shot Hock will be back for Week 5. The Vikings have a bye in Week 6, so a more realistic timetable, according to reports, is more likely to be sometime after the team's bye week.

MIN TE T.J. Hockenson - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

When on the field, T.J. Hockenson has been one of the better fantasy tight ends. Through Week 15, Hockenson was the No. 2 fantasy tight end before tearing his ACL. He was also TE2 in 2022. Hockenson caught 95 passes for 960 yards and five touchdowns before the Week 16 injury. Hockenson will be productive when healthy.

Fantasy Downside

Health is the big question going into the season for Hockenson. He tore his ACL in Week 16, which immediately put his Week 1 status into question. Hockenson is currently on the physically unable-to-perform list and is questionable for Week 1. He could also miss more time after and will likely be eased back into action when he does return.

2024 Bottom Line

Hockenson is an effective tight end when he's on the field. But when that will be again is anyone's guess. He's still worth a late-round draft pick if you're willing to ride out the injury and gamble he can still be a TE1 this season. We also don't know who will be throwing him the ball throughout the season, though it does seem to be leaning towards Sam Darnold for now.
