I was absolutely blown away by this book. I love it when romance writers take risks to write something other than the usual boy meets girl with a third act break up and this was so much more. Eva and Shane meet as teenagers but life is far from kind and they are forced to part. They meet up again as adults and the old spark is still there. I loved the two protagonists, they felt real, three dimensional characters with a completely believable relationship and I loved the way their past was woven into the present. The book does deal with some difficult subjects such as addiction, chronic pain, childhood trauma as well issues such as race and gender. and it was all done so deftly and in such beautiful prose. I’m a sucker for angst with HEA and love it when a romance breaks my heart and puts it back together again so this was a perfect read. Definitely a book I will read again and again. If you’re looking for something a bit different and where the HEA is well and truly earned, I heartily recommend ❤️❤️❤️
