We use this product for one purpose and that is to make freeze dried backpacking meals when we’re out on the trail. If you have my experience with freeze dried meals, you probably know how they often don’t “rehydrate” all the way despite one’s patience, and some textural issues are to be expected. But recently we received a Miir pot as an industry gift and decided to toss it in with our gear on a trip. On a lark, I poured the contents of a Mountain House lasagna into the Miir pot, added the requisite boiling water, gave it a stir and left it to sit for ten minutes as it normally would in the bag. When we opened the pot, the lasagna was steaming hot and best of all, not the least bit crunchy! Ever since, our freeze dried meals feel downright luxurious when we’re out on the trail in remote areas. We now often prepare our meals at camp and put them in a day pack so that we can crack open the Miir canister even hours later once we’ve reached the “best seat in the house” for dinner, which could be on a mountain top at sunset! The previous version had stainless steel lining the lid instead of plastic, which is easier to clean than the newer version sold here, but both do the job equally well.

After my soup was in the canister for less than 4 hours it was already cold. The separate dish does not fit securely to separate food. For the price the quality is not there. I would not recommend at all.
