Have both the Ti2 and Ti3 v2; will compare

Have both the Ti2 and Ti3 v2; will compare
I ordered one each of the cool white Ti2 and Ti3 v2 keychain flashlights, which were shown on the same product page when I bought them. Both are tiny and very bright, 120 lumens max. The thing I like best about the Ti3 v2 is that it has firefly, low, high, and strobe light settings. The thing I like best about the Ti2 is that it is even tinier and lighter than the Ti3 v2. Both seem very well made, run on one AAA battery (not included with either), and operate by twisting/untwisting. Both are water and shock resistant and have a 2-year replacement warranty. See photos to compare the two; Ti3 v2 on left, Ti2 on right. Edit: I forgot to include the clip in the Ti3's accessories photo. (The yellow tint on the Ti2's shiny reflector was probably from my yellow tee shirt.) Runtimes, etc. are taken from the manufacturer's specs.Ti3 v2 Pros: Has multiple light settings including firefly which I use a lot. Lower settings give much longer runtimes, up to 113 hours. Comes with extra o-rings, a small split ring, a larger quickly detachable attachment ring, and a detachable/reversible clip (especially good for putting on a cap brim for a headlight), all in a small reusable metal box. Can stand on end and doesn't roll around as easily. Orange peel reflector if you prefer those; perhaps not as harsh. Doesn't get hot in use so far. Maybe looks more updated.Cons: Not quite as tiny or lightweight. Run time on high (120 lumens) is less. Possibly doesn't look quite as bright on same max lumens as the Ti2.Ti2 (v ??) Pros: Smallest and most lightweight. Runtime is 15 minutes longer than the Ti3 v2 on high for same 120 lumens. Appears to be a bit brighter than the Ti3 v2, both at 120 lumens, perhaps because of the very shiny reflector. Price is currently lower and ThruNite website has these on special right now. Minimum packaging if that's a concern.Cons: Only one light setting, high at 120 lumens; runtime is much less than the lower light settings available on the Ti3 v2. Only includes a small spilt ring for attaching; does not include a clip or the additional accessories, although the Ti3 v2's clip will fit on it. With the one battery I've used in it so far, it quickly gets warm in use (not sure if that's normal). Both of these are great little flashlights, the main difference being whether you want multiple light settings or just on/off. If I could only have one, I'd pick the Ti3 v2 because I use the different light settings frequently, especially the firefly setting. I have the tinier Ti2 attached to my keyring in my purse, using the larger attachment ring that came with the Ti3 v2. I'm using the Ti3 v2 at home quite often.Ideally I would reduce the Ti3 v2 down to the Ti2's size and weight and change them both to a tail cap switch if possible, or at least add the firefly setting to the Ti2 and include the accessories. I'm happy with both of them. While these are little and cute, I don't recommend them for children because both are more than bright enough to hurt and possibly damage eyes.

UPDATE: Below this updated review is my original review............

Before I go on I'd like to say that I've up'd the rating to 5 star from a 3 star. The reason being is that I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT THIS THING!!!!
I never realized how much I would use a pocket flashlight. I purchased this in Feb 2016, it's now Nov. and I've come to love this tiny little pocket light. It's amazing how much light and life you can get out of a AAA battery and how bright it can be. The issues I had in the beginning are somewhat still there but, hardly matter anymore. A pushbutton might be better but I'm now used to twisting it and it's easier than it was when new. The intensity of the light depends greatly on the battery power. Even though the battery last a long long time, a weak battery gives you a weak output. I normally use the low setting now instead of the high, mainly to save battery but also because it still has plenty of light. I only use high when I need some SUN. I've even used the Firefly setting when I've needed just enough light to see something close but not disturb anyone. Also, I had taken one star off because of the cost. Now the light sells for about $4 less. That helps. If I really needed a pushbutton I would buy one with a pushbutton. I have grown to love my ThruNite Ti3 and use it all the time. It is so small it became a normal part of my pocket stuff and I carry it like I do my pocket knife. You won't regret buying this light............................................

    1st Review:
Since I'm not an expert on miniature flashlights, and I haven't tried any others this small, I can only tell you my personal feelings about this ThruNite Ti3. It has 3 settings, excuse me, 4 settings. The reason I think of only 3 settings is because the Firefly setting is just about what it says, FIREFLY. If you know how much light a firefly puts out, you get the picture. It's worthless to me but, to someone else it might be just the thing. For what, I have no clue since I can put it to my eye and it wouldn't bother me. The other settings include Low, High, and Strobe. So far I mostly use the High setting. I'm not sure I'll ever use the strobe but you never know. I love that it only takes one AAA battery and is not much bigger than that. I carry it in my pocket. The clip I don't use now but, you can clip it to your pocket or reverse the clip and put it on you cap. For others you can hold it in your mouth if the need arises. It seems well constructed so I'm hoping for a long life. The thing I don't like the most is the "switching" of the light. They describe it like this, "Convenient twist switch design for better one handed operation". What? Twisting is easier one handed than a push button??? Not my Hulk hands! In my case a button would be better. Also, when "switching" between settings, it starts with Firefly, then Low, and finally High and followed by Strobe. That's a lot of switching (turning back and forth) before getting to the High setting. To me it should be High, Low, Firefly, and then Strobe. I think I understand the reasoning of why they did it that way but, personally I'd rather have it my own way. Too bad you can't program it yourself. Hint Hint if you're reading this....... Also, the main reason for 3 stars is that I personally believe this flashlight could be sold for much less. Cheaper would have brought 4 stars. A button would have brought 5 stars. Figure it out.

    Report
Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2015
The ThruNite Ti3 NW Mini EDC Cree XP-G2 R5 LED flashlight is truly outstanding. It rivals my other favorite AAA pocket light, the Streamlight Microstream, offering more features and equivalent durability in a slightly smaller form factor. The advantage of the Ti3 is that it has multiple modes for users who want more flexible illumination options than the Microstream's simpler ON/OFF functionality. The Ti3 has very low ("firefly"), medium, and high settings, all of which are accessed by rotating the head (no tailswitch) and are relatively easy to cycle through. If you cycle through them twice, you can also access a hidden strobe function, which I consider pointless since I don't like strobe modes, but if you do, then you'll be pleased. Since the mode is "hidden" and can only be accessed by deliberately cycling through all of the modes twice, I find it unobtrusive (unlike on many other lights), so it doesn't bother me. (I hate, hate, hate lights that force you to cycle through strobe, which fortunately isn't the case here.)

What really 'shines' about this light--pun, intended--is its remarkably slim form factor: barely larger than the size of a single AAA battery, plus the negligible added length of the LED and reflector assembly. If you want a light that you can carry anywhere and always, and forget that you have it with you, this is hands down your best bet. There are smaller peanut lights, but in my opinion, going any smaller will make the light less usable because harder to hold. This is just the perfect size for the smallest possible usable light. And what will really wow you are the smartly chosen illumination options. Most of the time for casual 'light your path' scenarios, you'll want the medium setting, which offers a moderately bright 12 lumen beam that will run for a little over 6 hours on a single AAA battery. For close-up reading or map checking, the very low "firefly" mode will shine 0.04 lumens for a little over 100 hours. And for urgent, high illumination needs--like trying to find someone who fell over the side of the boat at night, or attempting to signal someone at great distance or during twilight hours--the high mode shines a truly impressive 120 lumens for approximately 35 minutes (or about twice that long in the hidden strobe mode). On high, the beam is startlingly clean and bright, giving the impression that you're using a substantially larger light. I'm genuinely impressed. Even if I don't find a need for the high beam very often, I think it has practical applications that certainly make it more than a gimmick and worth including.

If you want sheer simplicity (and to save a couple of bucks), you still might prefer the no-frills Microstream, which is a little longer and heavier, (but not by much), and undeniably simpler: on or off (no extra modes) and easily activated by tailswitch. If I had to choose only one, I'd lean in favor of the Ti3. The addititional modes are well-implemented without feeling obtrusive; the twist-to-activate head works fine and can still be operated one-handed; the slim size and light weight are phenomenal; and the pocket clip is very nice (fits very securely and can be reversed for added functionality/versatility). I carry mine clipped to a loop of webbing on my StealthGear AIWB holster for my Sig P290RS. That way, I always have a light with me when I concealed carry, and I don't even notice it's there until I need it.

If you're looking for a brilliant little light that runs on a single AAA and can be carried always/anywhere, this is going to be very hard to beat. At $20 or less, it is a steal! HIGHLY recommended!

I only used it a couple times for a minute at a time. Gave it an extra star because of the two year warranty that got me a replacement.

Small and very (VERY) bright--it even carries a warning about the brightness of the LED. I can't really report on durability (seems very solid) or battery life (It's an LED, after all), but it's a great bargain for an emergency go-anywhere light that puts out enough lumens to be useful.
