Scale and app easy to use, great for tracking insights
First off, this smart scale CAN work as a regular scale, without the app. But if you're looking at buying a smart scale, you want the extra features it offers. It's definitely one of the fancier scales I've used (although I don't use them often). Also, it does come with 3 AAA batteries installed.This smart scale uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to measure 11 different metrics, it weighs you, and it generates a BMI (body mass index) based off of your weight and supplied height measurements. And while a scale isn't a replacement for legitimate medical advice, it may give you insights into your health. The app has various units for weight, including kg, lb, and stone, as well as height units of cm and inch.I've used this scale several times over the last few days, both at the same times every day and at different times. My results have been consistent and make sense, based on how hydrated or not hydrated I've been. I'm normally very well hydrated, so it seems the results are legit. The app can also display the previous Measurement Reports, but it was a bit of a pain to figure out how to view those results. You have to select the scale, then history, then the day (from the calendar at the top) you want to view, then the result that appears. There is no indication that you can press on the result that appears to view the full Measurement Report.There is also an "Athlete Mode", for if you're more active like a runner or an athlete. According to RENPHO, you shouldn't turn it on unless you have at least 6 hours of aerobic exercise a week, and have a resting heart rate of 60. I have not used "Athlete Mode", despite having roughly 35 hours of high intensity exercise a week (from my job) because my resting heart rate is not as low as recommended.The things I don't like about this smart scale is more about issues with the app. I will include them, since the app is required to access all of the features of this smart scale. The app requires a password of 6-16 characters, but if you submit a password longer than 16 characters (such as in a passphrase) it will truncate (or cut off) your password at the 16 character mark. Other sites/apps will tell you "hey, your supplied password is longer than 16 characters!" and throw an error, which allows you to fix your password choice.My other issue, was after I installed the app and added my smart scale, I had to reconnect my smart scale to the app a few times to have my results from the scale sent to the app. It might have been an issue with my phone's bluetooth, because the last two days it has connected automatically as long as I have the app open.Overall, if you're in need of a smart scale, I'd recommend the RENPHO Smart Scale for its ease of use, 13 metrics the scale can show you, and ability to track trends and changes in those metrics.
