Customer Review

I bought the black metal one, which is undeniably cool. I even bought a little stick-on metal ring for the side of my medicine cabinet, knowing that the Quip cannot stand upright. It died after like a month or two because of an inherent design problem.

The button stopped working- the switch inside stopped clicking when pressed. Googling the problem led me to a Reddit thread from 3 years ago, where one of the Quip founders mentioned that they were moving to cheaper, less exotic switches than the older batches. That should have been a warning. YouTube showed a guy who had to do some basic repair to his Quip, due to the spring at the bottom of the battery mechanism being deformed or some dried toothpaste inside the top where the toothbrush head attaches.

So, you don’t want dried toothpaste in there, or moisture, and the spring at the bottom may bend. Fiddling with the spring, cleaning all contacts, and giving the top of the mechanism a little scrub with another dry toothbrush seemed to get things working the way they’re supposed to again.

3 days later, the button dropped actuating again, and I can’t get it to work even with cleaning and fiddling, so I have a $60 manual toothbrush. Big disappointment, I’ll buy another brand.
