It's like a big power strip, except it also provides backup power on 4 of the plugs on one side, the other 4 are surge protected only. I use it standing on it's end (as pictured) but it can also lay flat.

Plug spacing is pretty good, but if you have a large wall wart (Like the one on the Planronics phones) then space can be tight for the other plugs. In general, I haven't had any problem with plug crowding, but some of the A/C adapters are pretty big, so you may want to check size and the arrangement if you have several big ones. Remember, only one side of the device has plugs protected by the UPS, the other side plugs are just surge protected. Look closely at the product pictures to see the markings.

I bought one of these a few years ago and it's still going strong, so I haven't had to replace the battery yet. It sits behind my TV/panel and quietly provides protection to the panel, XBox, Roku and a few accessories. It does buzz when there's a power sag (brownout) or power interruption (blackout). It's nice to hear that working when it's doing it's thing.

Since these are fairly small UPS devices, don't expect to run a TV and console all night during a blackout. This will protect your devices from the sags and surges that you get with storms but it's really only going to give you 10 minutes to save/power down (depending on your power consumption and devices that are connected). Check your devices to calculate power consumption nd don't put unnecessary devices on the UPS side (e.g. plug your printer into the surge only side!).
