If this Leeds United squad have been waiting for a sign, then here it is.

One final 90 minutes. The May sun shining on them like a spotlight. Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road. A game that to players and owners is worth millions, but to supporters is worth far more.

This is Rocky in the final round, Churchill on the beaches. Who will answer the call to be a hero?

It may already be done and Leeds' fate might have been sealed. But there is still some hope, however small. Unbelievably, and against form and reason, these players still have the chance to finally find the fight to rescue their club and salvage some pride.

Leeds fans are not unforgiving if you fight. This is the city of Tubthumping. We all get knocked down - it's time for these players to get back up and fight. Even if they cannot be motivated by the city, the manager, the fans, or their own bank accounts, they must have some pride to cling to.

Even after the season we have had, show a little passion and the Elland Road crowd will respond with an almighty deafening roar.

If the players make the Leeds crowd believe, the Leeds crowd can carry this team to stay in this league.

  4. Sutton's predictions: Leeds v Tottenhampublished at 11:32 27 May 2023

For the last round of Premier League games, Chris Sutton takes on Bryan Devendorf, drummer with rock band The National.

    Chris Sutton's predictions banner

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

Leeds United boss Sam Allardyce has been driven to despair by how bad his side are at the back and he's only been in charge for three games.

That's why I can't see Leeds winning this game - and I think they are getting relegated.

Tottenham don't deserve many plaudits either, though. They have played well so rarely this season that I don't see them getting a win that would give them a chance of seventh place and European football next season.

Devendorf's prediction: Bryce [Dessner, Aaron's brother] supports Leeds because he likes their American connection. But my son supports Spurs so I've been, very casually, following their results for a while through him. Tottenham have been like a Cadillac on cruise control this season, with a string of disappointments. Leeds are so scrappy and ready for a fight, but I just don't know if they can see this game through. Instead, I think it is going to be one of those days where they put in a lot of effort before there is a kind of heartbreaking Harry Kane header that sends them down. 0-1

  5. Vote: Who is your Leeds player of the season?published at 18:06 26 May 2023

We asked our Leeds United fan contributor for their four player of the season choices and you can now vote for your top one.

    Luis Sinisterra

Luis has looked impressive this season and bagged five vital goals for us along the way. It's a real shame he has been struck with injury, as it would have been an amazing opportunity for him to shine further and show what he can do.

    Jack Harrison

After Leeds pulled the plug on his move to Leicester City in the January transfer window, he came back to us, cracked on and has worked hard since. It seems like he genuinely cares about us staying up. If only he had a quality team around him so that he could perform at his best level.

    Tyler Adams

The fact that fans all over the country are hoping to snap up Tyler for their club if we go down says it all. We have massively missed him in the squad since his hamstring injury. If he was fit then we wouldn't have been in a relegation battle.

    Rodrigo

Rodrigo has scored 13 goals this season despite missing plenty of games because of injury injury, and those goals have been important. He can hold his head up high and know that we are grateful for him fighting for the badge. Rodrigo will get snapped up in no time if we do get relegated.

  7. Allardyce calls on familiar facespublished at 15:09 26 May 2023

Leeds boss Sam Allardyce called on club legends to inspire his players before their crucial final game of the season.

The Whites need a win against Tottenham to stand a chance of staying in the Premier League and he has therefore called on Gary McAllister, Gordon Strachan and Eddie Gray to deliver a talk for players this week.

Allardyce said: "It's about how important Leeds is, what it meant to them, a bit more of the history of the football club. They had very successful times here and I think on the mentality side it's about improving our mentality to deliver so somebody speaking a different voice about football, about what they did at this club, how much they love this club, I think is really important."

Gray won two First Division titles with the Whites and was in charge at Elland Road last time they were relegated from the top flight in 2004.

When asked how the younger players responded Allardyce added: "All they have to do is listen to them. Eddie has been around a long time anyway. I've seen Eddie every other day since I've been here."

Leeds must beat Tottenham and hope that both Everton and Leicester fail to win in order to avoid the drop.

If Everton draw, Leeds must win by at least three goals to stay up (as long as Leicester don’t win).

  8. Allardyce on survival, Elland Road and focuspublished at 14:35 26 May 2023

    Adam Pope, BBC Radio Leeds

Sam Allardyce has been speaking to the media before Leeds' final Premier League game of the season against Tottenham on Sunday.

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • Strikers Patrick Bamford (hamstring) and Rodrigo (foot) will be given every chance to prove their fitness ahead of Sunday.

    • Rordigo trained on Friday but the starting XI will be picked tomorrow. Left-back Junior Firpo is available after suspension. Allardyce says he will not gamble on a player's fitness which could ruin his career.

    • Leeds have trained for the past three days at Elland Road in preparation for Sunday.

    • Allardyce brought in legends Gordon Strachan, Eddie Gray and Gary McAllister to speak to the players this week and tell them how much the club means to them.

    • He says the crowd on Sunday will keep the players in touch with what's going on with results on elsewhere, adding: "The only focus for the players is to win the game. They can't do any more than that."

    • On how much his eyes have been opened as to what needs to change at Leeds going forward, Allardyce said: "That's confidential. That will be aired after the last game."

    • On what comes next for him and whether he would like this job for any longer: "I hope we're talking in a very nature on Monday, and I have a hangover."

  9. Breaking down Sunday's relegation permutationspublished at 09:09 26 May 2023

    Mark Mitchener, BBC Sport

As you will be aware, it is two from three on Sunday when it comes to relegation from the Premier League.

Let's take the scenarios team by team:

    Everton (playing Bournemouth at home)

    • If they win, they’re SAFE, no matter what happens elsewhere.

    • If they draw, they’re SAFE if Leicester City fail to win AND Leeds United fail to win by at least three goals.

    • But if they draw, they’re DOWN if Leicester win (by any margin) OR Leeds win by at least three goals.

    • If they lose, they’re SAFE if Leicester and Leeds both fail to win.

    • But if they lose, they’re DOWN if either Leicester OR Leeds win.

(Everton permutations exclude the utterly ludicrous fantasy scenario whereby Leeds win by exactly three goals, but are relegated on goals scored thanks to Everton and Bournemouth drawing 17-17 or similar.)

Leicester City (playing West Ham at home)

    • Simply, they’re down UNLESS they win AND Everton don’t win, in which case they’re SAFE.

Leeds United (playing Tottenham at home)

    • They must win to have any hope of staying up – AND both Everton and Leicester have to fail to win.

    • If Everton draw, Leeds must win by at least three goals to stay up (as long as Leicester don’t win)

    • If Everton lose, Leeds can stay up with a win by any margin (again, as long as Leicester don’t win)

(Leicester and Leeds permutations assume that, even if both teams do win, Leeds are unlikely to win by nine more goals than Leicester win by.)

  10. What was Leeds' most memorable final day?published at 17:02 25 May 2023

When we achieved promotion to the Championship in May 2010. What a day!

Leeds really did take 11-year-old me on an emotional rollercoaster in that match against Bristol Rovers. Max Gradel was sent off in the first half and up until the 59th minute, we were losing 1-0.

We turned things around thanks to goals from Jonny Howson and Jermaine Beckford, both of whom are Leeds through and through. The feeling at the end when the whistle was blown was just indescribable, I couldn't believe that we had actually managed it!

I was so pleased to know that I was going to watch Leeds in the Championship that next season, little did I know though, that they would be in it for the next 16 years of my life.
