Hollywood has set up shop on the South Shore.

Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams left residents star-struck after she was spotted filming “At the Sea” in several locations in the area.

Crews filmed Adams on the Plymouth waterfront Tuesday morning, with residents and local businesses posting behind-the-scenes photos and videos on social media.

“It’s not every day we walk past a movie being filmed to get to the boats,” Plymouth whale watching company Captain John Boats posted on Instagram.

Jessica Mack, manager of Captain John Boats, said the production filmed on Town Wharf early Tuesday morning. Mack watched Adams shoot a dramatic scene where she appeared to miss a bus.

“It’s great that they’re filming right here,” Mack said. “It brought excitement to the area, it was just very quick.”

Mack also saw Adams filming inside Wood’s Seafood, a restaurant on Town Wharf.

Production on “At the Sea” began in June, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The star-studded cast and crew was also seen filming at various locations in Marshfield last week, residents said.

Mike Sleeper, 59, of Marshfield, was driving back from work with his daughter Sarah, 22, when they were delightfully surprised to see film crews at the Brant Rock seawall on Friday.

“I saw [them] walking along the seawall with the film crew and it occurred to me... I said ‘wow, that’s Amy Adams!’” Sleeper said.

Sleeper and his daughter pulled over to watch the production. The set was open to the public and passersby were allowed to come and watch, he said. The two shot videos and photos of the crew filming along the water.

When Adams wrapped filming, “people were going by in cars when she was leaving and they were waving,” Sleeper said. “She was really waving to them in a nice big smile and a big wave sort of way.”

Beachgoers also spotted film crews at Rexhame Beach Monday, where Adams was filmed amid colorful dancing kite creatures, including a giant purple octopus and a pair of orca whales, people posted on social media. The production welcomed locals to come fly kites as extras in a scene, Sleeper said.

“At the Sea” is directed by Kornél Mundruczó, a Hungarian filmmaker behind films “White God” and “Pieces of a Woman, according to IMDb. The drama follows the life of a woman named Laura (played by Adams) “who, after a long rehabilitation, returns to her family at their beach holiday home where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind.”

Adams stars in “At the Sea” alongside Murray Bartlett (“The White Lotus”), Brett Goldstein (”Ted Lasso”), Dan Levy (”Schitt’s Creek”), Rainn Wilson (”The Office”), and Jenny Slate (”Gifted”).

Sleeper said he and his daughter, both fans of “The Office,” are excited to see if Wilson will make an appearance in Marshfield as well.

Massachusetts has been the stage for a few of Adams’ previous movies, including “The Fighter” and “American Hustle.”
