Enjoy live music, harbor views, and food from 35 local restaurants including East Boston Farm Stand and D’Parma Restaurant, at the 28th annual Taste of Eastie. Sample some of the area’s most popular dishes, while supporting the nonprofit community improvement organization East Boston Main Streets. 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Tall Ship, a vessel-turned-oyster bar. Sunset Sips

Sip and socialize with a view of the Boston skyline at the Charles River Watershed Association’s Sunset Social at Night Shift Brewing’s beer garden on the Esplanade. Mingle with young professionals, river fanatics, and environmental advocates alike to support the restoration of a clean Charles. 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Register for tickets, $35, which include one drink and pizza, at crwa.org.

New and Noteworthy

Best-selling author and New York Times Magazine staff writer Taffy Brodesser-Akner sits down at the Brattle Theatre to discuss her newest work, Long Island Compromise. The novel tells the story of a man forced to face his haunting past following the death of his mother. Dance the weekend away at the ninth annual Cambridge Jazz Festival, at Danehy Park. Presented by the Cambridge Jazz Foundation, the family-friendly event features an entire weekend of local and international jazz musicians, free of charge.
