Our Story

boxes with coloured shoes

Shoemakers Since 1825.

1825 in Street, Somerset, England. Two brothers, one idea: slippers.

Our story began almost 200 years ago, when Cyrus and James Clark crafted a slipper from sheepskin offcuts – minimising waste, and maximising ingenuity. This ground-breaking idea combined innovation, conscientiousness and craftsmanship – core values that set us apart then, and now.

Always Innovating

Informed by the last two hundred years, and inspired by the next – at Clarks, we do things differently. From creating the world’s first foot-shaped shoe and breakthroughs in comfort technologies to cutting-edge cultural collaborations and taking strides in social change, we’re always pushing the boundaries to move boldly with the world ahead.

To look after your feet better than anyone else, we study how they move at work, rest, and play

CRAFTSMANSHIP LIKE NO OTHER

Leonardo da Vinci described the human foot as "a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art". So, to look after your feet better than anyone else, we study them – scrutinising their biomechanics and movement at work, rest, and play to make sure they stay healthy and happy. Now, as always, our shoes are crafted using a hand-carved last – and we utilise both time-honoured and pioneering construction techniques, technologies and materials to make sure Clarks are the shoes you can count on.

ICONIC TODAY, ICONIC TOMORROW

Often imitated, never bettered. In our archive of more than 22,000 styles are shoes that have sparked revolutions, defined generations and captured imaginations. A shoe for every collective, our world-famous Wallabee is worn by Britpop icons, Jamaican Rude Boys and hip-hop royalty – while Nathan Clark’s inimitable Desert Boot is just as iconic today as on its creation in 1950. And we’re always breaking new ground to design future legends, from environmentally-conscious Origin 2.0 to our ultra-bold Torhill profile.
