Former prime minister Liz Truss has sensationally lost her seat in the Tory election bloodbath. Ms Truss, who was premier for just 49 days in 2022, lost her Norfolk South West seat to Labour by just 630 seats after the largest swing from the Tories to Labour ever. Terry Jermy overturned a 26,195 majority won by Ms Truss in 2019 after Reform and an independent campaign by the 'Turnip Taliban' - a group of local disgruntled ex-Tories - whittled down her support. Ms Truss, who led the country from September 6 to October 25 2022 following Boris Johnson's resignation, was the latest Tory heavyweight to suffer at the hands of the electorate on a disastrous night - and morning - for the party. On a humiliating night for Rishi Sunak's party, some of the Conservatives' biggest names - including a record number of frontbenchers - lost their seats as Labour stormed to an historic landslide win. Among the senior Tories to be ousted in a brutal election night bloodbath was Mr Rees-Mogg who lost his Somerset North East & Hanham seat to Labour's Dan Norris by more than 5,000 votes. And glum-looking Defence Secretary Grant Shapps suffered a 'Portillo Moment' as he was defeated by Labour in Welwyn Hatfield by around 3,000 votes.

Today Lady Victoria Starmer will enter Downing Street with her husband after Labour's landslide victory. 'Lady Vic', as she is known fondly in party circles, has been missing from the election campaign completely - but passionately kissed Sir Keir after his victory rally in central London this morning. And she will wave on the steps of No 10 this afternoon, although the couple's two teenage children, said to be 'completely freaked out' by the idea of being in the public eye, are expected to enter their new home by the back door. Moving into Downing Street comes just weeks after their 16-year-old son took his GCSEs. The couple have also shielded their 13-year-old daughter from the limelight - never naming either children or naming them in public. Mr and Mrs Starmer married 17 years ago - but their relationship had a rocky start, and falling in love, let alone a marriage and children, couldn't have been more far off when a young Sir Keir questioned the quality of her work. Mrs Starmer, then a lawyer and now an occupational therapist who plans to continue to work in the NHS, went berserk at the arrogant young barrister because her drafting was perfect.

Mr Farage, 60, (main) was joined by former Tory chairman '30p Lee' Anderson (bottom right), party chairman Richard Tice and former Southampton FC chairman Rupert Lowe in being elected to Parliament. After winning in Clacton, Mr Farage said there was now a 'massive gap on the centre-right of British politics and my job is to fill it'. Arch-cheerleader Carol Vorderman led celebrations on social media alongside a slew of celebrities who all wanted their moment in the limelight after Labour's landslide. From failed football manager Gary Neville to controversial Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, leftie champions crawled out to scoff at the results. Former Countdown human calculator Vorderman exploded into a vicious tirade against the Tories on Channel 4 before shuffling to social media to show off her glee.

New York magazine's Intelligencer reporter Olivia Nuzzi revealed in a deep dive into the embattled president's mental decline what some Democrats actually believe is going on behind the scenes. She explained that a theory long dismissed as right-wing propaganda is now being considered by elite Democrats, highlighting the levels of panic within even liberal circles about Biden's wellbeing.

The as-yet unnamed woman reportedly claimed to be sober but was described as a 'walking pharmacy' who would help the Friends star obtain ketamine. Perry was found dead at the age of 54 at his LA home on October 23, 2023 of a ketamine overdose. The anonymous celebrity is the second to be linked to his death, after it emerged Charlie Sheen's ex-wife Brooke Mueller, 46, had been quizzed by cops.

Can it really be just six weeks since Rishi announced his kamikaze snap election in a torrential rainstorm with D:Ream's Things Can Only Get Better drowning out his words? It hardly seems possible but, here we are, sitting on the sofa, staring slack-jawed at the exit poll, which promises total devastation for the Tories. And clearly it comes as quite a shock to Kay Burley and crew at Sky News who, when they see the figures, seem only able to make what sound like gasping sex noises on their microphones. 'OOH. Ooh. Oh my god. Oo, oo ooooooh.'

A few major channels suffered gaffes early on in the night including GB News which displayed a graphic that showed the Tories were down to win 410 seats with Labour on 131 - a landslide in the wrong direction. The BBC had a few technical blunders, with its swing-o-meter appearing to break as Jeremy Vine presented from Cardiff, while a green screen failure made it seem as though Sophie Raworth and Jon Kay were floating heads. Yet the strangest reaction by far came from the Sky News studio, who could be heard making some unusual noises as Labour's predicted majority of 170 flashed up on screens.

The satirical candidate, who has stood in a number of high profile elections including the London Mayoral race, faced off against Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Richmond, North Yorkshire overnight. Taking to social media after the results had been confirmed, Count Binface took at dig at the beleaguered Prime Minister as he celebrated gaining more than 300 votes. Binface, a self-described intergalactic space warrior, was gunning for Rishi Sunak's constituency seat in Richmond and Northallteron, pledging to voters in his manifesto to introduce national service for former prime ministers and invite European countries to join the UK. While Mr Sunak retained his seat with 23,059 votes, the Count, running for the Count Binface Party came sixth in the poll, following Green Party candidate Kevin Foster, with 308 votes from constituents.

Former Conservative minister Nadine Dorries (left) stole the show on election night as she accused Alastair Campbell (right) of sexism and revealed former Prime Minister Boris Johnson had been texting her. Appearing on Channel 4 as part of the broadcaster's election programme, hosted by Emily Maitlis and Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Ms Dorries clashed with the former Labour spokesperson just minutes after polls closed at 10pm. She also caused hilarity for viewers after Ms Maitlis appeared to struggle not to roll her eyes at one of her answers. The ex-culture secretary and staunch Boris Johnson loyalist said the projected results are a 'disaster' for the party, after an exit poll predicted the party would return just 131 seats.

Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives as whole have been mocked, lampooned and derided on social media following the Tory party's abysmal results in the General Election. On a night of Tory bloodbath, 11 former cabinet members, including Jacob Rees- Mogg and Gillian Keegan lost their seats in humbling 'Portillo' moments, leading some voters to suggest competition for ITV 's I'm a Celeb will be fierce this year.

Royal weddings have captivated the public imagination for centuries. As a case in point, the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton (right, arriving with her mother Carole and Prince Harry) at Westminster Abbey in 2011 was watched by a record two billion people worldwide. But a significant amount of preparation was dedicated to ensure everything ran seamlessly, from the vows to the military procession. Like many other couples, William and Kate attended multiple rehearsals before their momentous wedding day. Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer had an initial run-through for their July 1981 wedding on June 12. The final practice came on July 27 (above left). Zara Phillips married rugby star Mike Tindall on July 30, 2011, at Canongate Kirk, a historic church on Edinburgh's Royal Mile. The day before, the couple (centre), dressed casually in jeans, attended a run-through with their families.

A British tourist family has revealed the cut-throat techniques they employ to secure the best sunbed spots in the dog-eat-dog world of resort holidays.  Europeans have been waging wars against tourism in holiday hotspots in the run-up to the busy holiday season, when holidaymakers will leave their homes and inhabit local towns for weeks at a time.  But the Harper family have begun fighting back, flouting official rules to assert themselves while on holiday in Crete by eating their breakfasts at the sunbeds. 

This is the moment the Ecuadorian military rescued 49 miners who were kidnapped by Los Lobos, one of the South American nation's most ruthless gangs. Footage showed troops walking through a forest in the rural town of Santa Martha, 217 miles south of the capital city of Quito, and finding the group in a makeshift camp on Wednesday. The military said the soldiers initially were met with gunfire from at least 23 Los Lobos members before they were able to flee. No injuries were reported.

Old Came Rectory was the home of well-known Dorset scholar and poet William Barnes, a friend and mentor to a young Thomas Hardy, for 24 years in the latter half of the 19th century. The Grade II Listed thatched five-bedroom house near Dorchester sits in 1.67-acre gardens and is up for sale with Savills. Barnes met Hardy when he was working as an apprentice architect at a practice in Dorchester next door to the school where Barnes taught. There was a 40-year age gap between the two men but they formed a deep bond.. Barnes gave up his school to become the rector for Came in 1862 and remained there until his death in 1886 and Hardy was a regular visitor.

Becky Holt - now best known as the UK's 'most tattooed woman' - once vowed she would keep all her inkings hidden under her clothes.
