Scottie Scheffler a boosted 6/1 favourite to win The Open starting Thursday - while reigning champion Brian Harman is a 60/1 outsider

Royal Troon will play host to the 152nd Open Championship starting Thursday - with golf's biggest names descending on Scotland in the hope of hoisting the prestigious Claret Jug in what is the last major of 2024.

Brian Harman - who secured a shock six-shot victory at The Open in 2023 - will be looking to become just the 13th player to win back-to-back Open Championships.

It appears as though most are of the belief that Harman's triumph in Liverpool 12 months ago was merely a flash in the pan performance - with the American a very wide 60/1 (8 PLACES EACH WAY) with Sky Bet to be victorious again this weekend.

Unsurprisingly, it is his compatriot Scottie Scheffler who is the favourite to be crowned champion at The Open in 2024.

Scheffler - who has experienced an incredible calendar year that includes wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, RBC Heritage, Memorial Tournament, Travelers Championship and most notably the Masters - is attracting boosted odds of 6/1 to win his third career major.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy is the second best-backed in the market at 15/2. McIlroy will be desperate to break the drought and win his first major in a decade, particularly when you consider the disastrous end to his US Open campaign last month.

Holding a two-stroke lead over Bryson DeChambeau with just four holes to play - McIlroy would bogey three of the final four holes, missing putts within four feet on both the 16th and 18th to finish one stroke behind DeChambeau.

Can he overcome that heartbreak and secure his fifth career major win? Or, will McIlroy's major drought continue into 2025? We will have to wait and find out.

The aforementioned DeChambeau, Ludvig Aberg and Xander Schauffele round out the five best-backed players in the Outright Tournament Winner market - with all three priced at 14/1 with Sky Bet.

Sky Bet favourites to win The Open Championship (8 PLACES EACH WAY):

Scottie Scheffler WAS 11/2 NOW 6/1

Rory McIlroy 15/2

Bryson DeChambeau 14/1

Ludvig Aberg 14/1

Xander Schauffele 14/1

Brian Harman 60/1
