It's official - Gareth Southgate has resigned as England manager. After much speculation since England's 2-1 defeat at the hands of Spain in the Euro 2024 final - Southgate announced this morning that he will be stepping down.

While much will be spoken about over the coming days with respect to Southgate's tenure as Three Lions boss - another topic of discussion that is likely to dominate the headlines is who his successor will be.

With that in mind - read on as we dissect the updated odds as to who will be the next England manager following Southgate's resignation.

Reported 'frontrunner' Eddie Howe is an 11/4 third-favourite to be the next England manager

Former Brighton and Chelsea boss Graham Potter remains a short 6/4 favourite to be given the job, while England U21 head coach Lee Carsley is a 9/4 second-favourite.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's Eddie Howe is an 11/4 third-favourite according to Sky Bet. That could prove good value considering Howe is the 'early frontrunner' for the position according to reports.

It is reported that Howe had a buyout clause in the region of £8 million last season - however - given the North East club are no longer in the Champions League - that is said to have been reduced to figure closer to £5 million.

With that being considered, will Howe commit to Newcastle and try secure Champions League football once again? Or, is managing this young and supremely talented England squad too good of an opportunity to pass up? We will have to wait and see.
