ESPN's Adam Schefter said prior to Monday Night Football that there's a "strong possibility" 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (calf, Achilles) misses Week 2's game against the Vikings. According to Schefter, McCaffrey pulled himself out of Friday's practice with soreness in his calf area and was still experiencing tightness on Monday.
Buccaneers S Antoine Winfield Jr. will miss at least two games and could be out as much as a month, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. Winfield suffered an ankle injury late in Sunday's win over the Commanders and left the stadium in a walking boot. Stroud adds that the Bucs are "cautiously optimistic" it'll be just two weeks.
The Browns signed WR Kadarius Toney to their practice squad. He also had interest from the Seahawks and other teams, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Toney, of course, has already flamed out with both the Giants and Chiefs. There's little reason to expect things to go better in Cleveland. You can continue to ignore Toney in redraft leagues, and he's not a must-hold in shallower dynasty leagues.
Bills QB Josh Allen has been cleared to play in Thursday night's game vs. the Dolphins, HC Sean McDermott said. Allen injured his left hand in the Week 1 win over the Cardinals but was able to play through it. He was listed as a full participant on Monday's estimated practice report. Unless we hear otherwise, there's no reason to expect this to be an issue in Week 2 or beyond. Allen opened his season with a four-TD outing and leads all QBs in Week 1 fantasy points (with the Monday nighter still to go).
Bears WR Rome Odunze sustained an MCL sprain in Sunday's win over the Titans. He's now week-to-week, according to multiple reports.
Niners RB Christian McCaffrey is inactive for tonight's game against the Jets. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that McCaffrey tested his injured calf today and that "it didn't feel right and the 49ers wanted to err on the side of caution." That's been the message from McCaffrey and the team ever since the injury first showed up back in early August. That he's now missing a game more than a month later suggests the issue has always been more significant than they wanted us to believe.
The Commanders released K Cade York and signed K Austin Seibert. York went 0-for-2 on FGs in the opener, missing from 47 and 56 yards. He also had a kickoff go out of bounds. Seibert was Cleveland's kicker back in 2019 but has bounced to multiple teams in the four seasons since. He sports a subpar 80% career FG conversion rate. You should be able to do better in fantasy lineups.
Rams HC Sean McVay said Monday that the team is placing WR Puka Nacua on IR after he aggravated his right knee injury in Sunday night's loss to the Lions, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports. Nacua is dealing with a PCL sprain that he reportedly hurt in a "more significant" way against Detroit.
Giants WR Darius Slayton is in concussion protocol, HC Brian Daboll said Monday. Slayton finished second among Giants WRs in snaps and routes in the opener, catching three of four targets for 26 yards. His absence would leave Jalin Hyatt as the primary outside WR opposite Malik Nabers. But this is a situation to avoid after QB Daniel Jones' poor Week 1.
Bears WR Rome Odunze came out of Sunday's win over the Titans with a knee injury, HC Matt Eberflus said Monday. Odunze is scheduled for an MRI to get a better look at the damage. Eberflus said there was "a level of concern" regarding the injury, but didn’t give any other details, per insider Scott Bair. We'll update Odunze's status as soon as we know more.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid said Monday that WR Marquise Brown (shoulder) is "feeling better" and "getting close" to a return. Week 2 or 3 has looked like Brown's most likely return date since he suffered the shoulder injury. We're currently projecting him to miss this Sunday's game vs. the Bengals and return in Week 3, but we'll continue to keep a close eye on his status. Brown's absence would make WR Xavier Worthy easier to trust in Week 2 fantasy lineups. The rookie totaled 68 yards and two scores in the opener -- but saw only three targets and one carry.
Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson suffered a left knee injury in the Cowboys Week 1 game against the Browns. It initially looked like it could be season-ending, but further testing revealed that Ferguson only sprained his MCL. This is approximately a 1-4 week recovery for Ferguson.
The Panthers lost DT Derrick Brown to a meniscus injury in Sunday's loss to the Saints. Brown will need surgery, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, and that operation will determine how long Brown will be out. Pelissero calls it "potentially season-ending."
Broncos WR Courtland Sutton managed only 4 catches for 38 yards in a Week 1 matchup at Seattle. Sutton led the team with 12 targets but struggled to click with rookie QB Bo Nix.
Rams WR Cooper Kupp had an incredible Sunday Night Football performance with 14 catches (on 21 targets) for 110 yards and a TD. He stepped up after WR Puka Nacua was knocked out of the game with a knee injury causing Kupp to be the focal receiver in the offense. He helped the Rams gain a late lead, but it was not enough for the Rams to beat the Lions
Lions WR Jameson Williams broke out with five catches for 121 yards including a 52-yard TD in the third quarter. After a disappointing start to his career, Williams hitting a long TD and going nuclear in this game is a sign of a potential breakout coming this season.
Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown caught only three passes on six targets for 13 yards in the Lions Overtime win over the Rams. He only had one catch in the entire second half and overtime period as the Lions opted more for the run game as well as a breakout game for Jameson Williams.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Browns TE David Njoku is feared to have suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys. That would likely mean multiple missed games. He'll undergo further testing Monday to confirm the diagnosis.
Bucs WR Mike Evans turned 31 years old in August. But he looked squarely in his prime against an overmatched Washington secondary. Seeing 6 targets -- tied for second on the team -- Evans tallied 5-61-2. That marked his third game with 2 TDs since Week 12 of last season.
