Week 3 Hot Board: Big five-stars hit the road

Each Friday during college football season, the experts at Recruiting Nation will weigh in on the probable destinations of the nation's top uncommitted prospects. Week 3 has some huge games, especially in Norman, Oklahoma; Louisville; and Oxford, Mississippi. It's also bringing out the big names. A trio of five-stars -- Trey Smith, Jeffrey Okudah and Marvin Wilson -- will be taking visits this weekend. Here's where we think they're going:

Jeffrey Okudah, S, 6-2, 197, Grand Prairie, Texas/South Grand Prairie, ESPN 300 No. 8

Prediction: Ohio State
Confidence level: 80 percent
Toughest competition: Oklahoma
Others in the mix: Clemson, Florida State, Georgia and USC

Okudah is open and honest by saying that Ohio State is his leader. The Buckeyes have been in the lead for quite some time and will be tough to move out of the top spot. Okudah is planning to visit all the schools in his top list, starting with Oklahoma for its game against Ohio State. Visits can always change things for prospects, but for now, the Buckeyes are the pick. -- Tom VanHaaren

Trey Smith | OT, 6-6, 299, University School/Jackson, Tennessee, ESPN 300 No. 1

Prediction: Tennessee
Confidence level: 60 percent
Toughest competition: Ole Miss
Others in the mix: Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame

The top-ranked player in the ESPN 300 was in Bristol, Tennessee, for the largest football game in the history of college football last weekend to see Tennessee, one of his favorite schools. This week, the five-star prospect is heading to Oxford, Mississippi, to watch two other favorites, Ole Miss and Alabama, square off. While you can never count out Alabama, as far as recruiting is concerned, this seems as if it's shaping up to be a Tennessee-Ole Miss battle. Smith is planning to announce his decision in mid-December. -- Derek Tyson

Marvin Wilson, DT, 6-4, 332, Episcopal/Houston, ESPN 300 No. 7

Prediction: Texas
Confidence level: 35 percent
Toughest competition: LSU, Florida State
Others in the mix: Oklahoma and Alabama

Wilson, the No. 1 defensive tackle and top overall player in the Lone Star State, is easily one of the most compelling recruiting storylines to follow in the 2017 class. The biggest question with Wilson is this: Will he stay in state or will he head elsewhere? We'll get our first glimpse into how that question is eventually answered this weekend, when Wilson is scheduled to take an official visit to Oklahoma. Many observers have pegged Texas as the favorite, but the Longhorns are battling against a who's who of recruiting royalty and know winning over Wilson won't be easy. -- Jeremy Crabtree

Elijah Molden, CB, 5-11, 181, West Linn (Oregon) High, ESPN 300 No. 212

Prediction: Oregon
Confidence level: 40 percent
Toughest competition: Stanford
Others in the mix: USC, Washington

Oregon is the easy pick for Molden, who is an in-state star and whose father, Alex Molden, is a former standout defender for the Ducks. But Stanford is pushing hard and, this weekend, will receive Molden's first official visit. While it appears to be mostly a two-team race between the Cardinal and Ducks, Molden also has USC and Washington among his top four programs. -- Erik McKinney

Caleb Chandler, OG, 6-5, 290, Jefferson (Ga.) High

Prediction: Louisville
Confidence level: 40 percent
Toughest competition: Florida
Others in the mix: Iowa State, Miami, NC State

Chandler is one of the most coveted offensive prospects remaining on the board for Louisville, and the Peach State offensive tackle will be on hand for Saturday's showdown with Florida State. Chandler has official visits scheduled to Florida in October and possibly Iowa State in November making this a huge chance for the Cardinals to impress. This looks like a Louisville vs. Florida battle if the Gators make a strong push. Louisville offensive line coach Chris Klenakis has made Chandler a priority since March of 2016. -- Gerry Hamilton
