News: 1 hour agoCoach Andy Reid said Tuesday that Brown (shoulder) has been ruled out for Thursday's regular-season opener against the Ravens, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Spin: Brown has yet to resume practicing since suffering a left sternoclavicular dislocation Aug. 10, and it never appeared that he had a real chance to be available Week 1. Reid now makes that decision official, though he has noted that Brown's recovery thus far has been encouraging, per Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. Brown's absence will leave opportunities up for grabs behind TE Travis Kelce and top wideout Rashee Rice. Rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy could be the biggest beneficiary of extra offensive looks, but all of Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore and Mecole Hardman will be candidates to see increased roles to help fill in for brown.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: The most accomplished deep-threat receiver the Chiefs have signed since Tyreek Hill departed, Brown brings the worry of his having been a near-total flop in his two years in Arizona but also the tantalizing upside of a weekly fantasy WR2. Brown never clicked with Kliff Kingsbury's offensive system in 2022 and was held back by injury (foot) and poor quarterback play in 2023, but he also had seven touchdowns of 40 yards or greater during his three seasons in Baltimore (2019-21), third best in the league. Having one of the game's best quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes, should help fuel a rebound for Brown, but be forewarned that, due to his probable role and with the speedy Xavier Worthy also now on the roster, Brown will likely be a boom-or-bust type. Brown is expected to miss a game or three to open the season due to injury.
