Jomel Warrican

Jomel Warrican, then just 17, was one of the frontline spinners in West Indies' squad for the 2010 Under-19 World Cup, where they finished third. He contributed five wickets in three innings. He didn't do anything particularly sparkling immediately after that, but picked up 49 wickets in the 2014-15 West Indian first-class competition, including two eight-fors, at an average of 14.97, finishing fourth on the wicket-takers' list, which had Veerasammy Permaul and Devendra Bishoo at the top. Tony Cozier, writing on ESPNcricinfo in April 2015, mentioned Warrican among the players who had impressed him.

The Test debut came in September 2015, when he replaced Permaul in the squad for the games in Sri Lanka, where Jason Holder, his team-mate from the Under-19 World Cup, took over the Test captaincy for the first time. Warrican debuted in the second Test, and picked up six wickets. He was given his Test cap by Garry Sobers, who told him at the time, "You have many games to come." There have been a few, and he has always shown discipline with lines and lengths, but his Test career might have hit a roadblock after the Port-of-Spain Test against India in July 2023, even though he picked up four of the 12 Indian wickets to fall across two innings on that occasion.
