Vernon Kay has shared why he's been told off by his wife Tess Daly as he branded himself a "tradesperson's nightmare". In a conversation with a plasterer named Danny on his BBC Radio 2 show today, Vernon, 50, revealed that he liked to "hover" around workers in his home to get a glimpse of their skill, but acknowledged that it could be seen as annoying.

Sharing his admission live on the airwaves, he said: "I must be a tradesperson's nightmare because when they come round to our house, I'm one of those people that hover. I'm not being nosey and making sure that I'm getting my value for money, I just like watching a skilled technician, a skilled plasterer, a painter and decorator, I just like watching them work."

In response, the plasterer told Vernon that he is "the worst type of customer", which led the host to respond: "My Mrs says that, she's like, 'Just leave them alone!'

"I'm like, 'Look at that plastering, it's a work of art'." After realising just how frustrating his move can be, he added: "Anyway, I'll stop doing that now that you've told me off, stop being weird Vern!"

Sharing his more welcomed approach to guests, Vernon said he likes to ensure that tradespeople have a well made cup of tea on while on the job.

After the plasterer told him that this wasn't always offered by customers, the presenter expressed his shock. He went on:"Hang on Danny, you're telling me that, as a tradesman, you go to someone's house and they don't offer you a brew?!

"It has been known yeah," he replied, to which Vernon added: "That's bang out of order."

"It is yeah, we don't go back to them in truth, or the price goes up," Danny replied, laughing.

Vernon's admission comes after Tess opened up about rows that had occurred in their family home.

The couple, who married in 2003, are parents to teenage daughters Phoebe, 19, and Amber, 14.

In a recent interview, the Strictly Come Dancing host said their eldest had been “giving her hell” following a disagreement about her old clothes.

Speaking to Closer Magazine, she explained: "I had tons of vintage stuff.

"I used to have a storage unit because I couldn’t fit the clothes in my wardrobe and then I thought it was silly because I wasn’t wearing it, so I ended up giving most of it away to friends.

“So now, Phoebe is giving me hell over it and says, ‘Mum, how could you?’.”

She added: “She looks at me like she’s going to kill me because she wished I could have kept it all!”
