King Charles's subtle nod to streamlined monarchy spotted during meeting with Keir Starmer
King Charles has plans for a more slimmed down monarchy, which is reflected in his choice of pictures on display.
Keir Starmer's first audience with King Charles
King Charles has subtly shown his support for a more slimmed-down monarchy with his choice of photographs for his Audience Room, where he met with Sir Keir Starmer earlier today.
At midday, the King welcomed the new Prime Minister to Buckingham Palace following his landslide election win which saw the Labour Party win over 400 seats.
The details of their first audience must remain private, but snaps taken of the two men sitting together show some interesting pictures on display in the background.
One of them shows Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who sensationally abdicated the throne this year in favour of her son and heir King Frederik X.
The former monarch celebrated her 84th birthday this year, and announced in her speech she felt it was "time to pass on the responsibility to the next generation".

Although there is no indication that His Majesty intends to abdicate anytime soon, he is keen on lowering the number of working royals and keeping a certain number of mainly younger royals on duty, going against the wishes of many, including Princess Anne.
Royal expert Phil Dampier admitted his shock at Margrethe's decision, who as recently as 2016 said she had no intention of stepping aside.
The former Queen said at the time: "It's always been: you stay as long as you can. That's what my father did and my predecessors. And the way I see it too."
Mr Dampier said: "It came completely out of the blue. I think a lot of Danes are quite shocked by it."

King Charles's idea for a more streamlined working monarchy came under fire this year as illness has forced him and Princess Kate to take a step back.
With Kate still taking time off to recover, there are currently only three working royals under the age of 70 - Prince William, Prince Edward, and Duchess Sophie.
Princess Anne has also been forced to miss out on some royal engagements as she recovers from a recent accident.
Royal commentator Pandora Forsyth answered questions about the King's plans on GB News back in January, as she stated: "This is seeing it in action in the worst-case scenario, let's be honest. You’ve got the King and the Princess of Wales out of action.
"Anne was the busiest working royal last year so I’m sure he’ll be relying on her. We’ve also got Edward and Sophie who are very much in the fold.
"It does bring into question, you know, Eugenie and Beatrice. But this time of year is quite quiet for the royals so if this was going to happen at any time, now would be the time to do it."
