King Charles has practiced his new greetings with the West Indies cricket team at Buckingham Palace ahead of their first Test match against England at Lord's Cricket Ground in London.

Inviting the whole team to the Palace, the King, 75, was promptly taught how to first bump by two brothers called up for the Windies, Mikyle and Jeremiah Louis, as laughter erupted after his attempt.

Fans were quick to express their delight on social media platform, X: "Happy to see the King with the players.... good luck to them for the tournament."

@RozenbergTomer wrote: "What an honor for the West Indies team! A royal welcome before the big match at Lord's sets the stage for an exciting game #CricketRoyalty."

A third fan stated: "Such a powerful combination - the West Indies Test cricket team and the King."

A video uploaded onto the King and Queen Camilla's official social media platform shows a montage of the players meeting and chatting with the King before the Test begins on July 10. They state: "We've been here for a couple of weeks and we look forward to the first test at Lord's."

After the King appears to learn new skills with his handshakes, he laughs along with the players and is captured putting his hand up to his heart in a loving gesture.

The King was also keen to express his concern at the devastation wrought across the Caribbean by Hurricane Beryl. Earlier this week, the monarch sent "heartfelt condolences" to the people of the region following the death and destruction caused by the hurricane.

He spoke to the prime ministers of Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Jamaica on Friday to hear more about the devastation.

Speaking after the audience with His Majesty, captain Kraigg Brathwaite said: "We were honoured to be invited and it was a great opportunity for the whole team to be here.

"Hurricane Beryl has been devastating but we want to make West Indians proud and put a smile on their faces during these tough times."

Meanwhile, the UK has announced a new support package up to £500,000 for Caribbean countries affected by the storm, which was the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record to form in the Atlantic, the new foreign secretary David Lammy, announced.

The financial support aims to provide immediate relief to meet the needs of those whose homes and livelihoods have been impacted.

It includes 800 emergency shelter kits, capable of supporting up to 4,000 people. These have already been dispatched to Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines after their islands suffered devastating damage earlier this week.

The Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, said: "Our thoughts remain with those who have lost loved ones, their homes or have been left without power. This funding will help support disaster recovery efforts, as part of a swift and coordinated response in the region.

"That such a storm has developed so early in the season shows that we are facing a climate emergency and must act now."
