Breakfast: Jon asks Carol if there will be any sunshine

Carol Kirkwood left fans gutted as she issued an announcement. The 62-year-old joined Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell to share the latest forecast updates on Monday's edition (July 8) of BBC Breakfast.

The Scottish presenter was also sharing updates on social media and revealed the warm weather isn't returning to the UK this week. Carol posted an image of a grey sky on her X account, explaining this week will "remain unsettled" and "feel cool".

She captioned the photo: "No sign of our summer returning this week @bbcbreakfast." Carol's followers flocked to the comments to express their sadness over the news.

One wrote: "Where is the heatwave everyone was talking about Carol?" Another said: "Thank you, it’s a disappointment but hope to see it back eventually!"

Some fans were even left on the verge of tears, with one sharing a crying emoji and another posting an animated image showing an emoji excessively sobbing.

Carol's followers weren't the only ones disappointed with the announcement as Jon was also left disheartened.

Jon and Sarah handed over to Carol in the studio, where she revealed the weather is "really poor" for this time in July. Once she finished, Jon mused: "What about next week? Any sign?"

Carol couldn't help but let her co-star down, responding: "I would love to say yes Jon," as he concluded: "But you won't... One day, Carol."

It comes after Carol opened up about the 14-year age gap between her and her husband. The meteorologist married policeman Steve Randall, 48, in an intimate ceremony in 2023.

Opening up about their romance, Carol admitted people often mention their age difference. But she brushed these remarks aside, exclusively telling the Express: "If our ages were the other way around, nobody would ever mention it.

"I've had a few comments but I don't care. We've moved on from the days when he might have been described as my toyboy or people might call me a cougar."

Carol added: "We’re happy together and that's all that matters." The BBC star also touched upon her first marriage with Scottish businessman Jimmy Kirkwood, revealing they were unable to conceive children.

She said: "I’d wanted to be a mum since I was a child. And we tried everything. But it just never happened and nor could anyone tell us why. But I’ve got lots of nieces and nephews who I adore."
