Y-7J / JZY-01 airborne early warning

China is enhancing its airborne early warning capabilities, but by 2019 had too many designators chasing not enough aircraft - there are four different designators, all of which may reference a single project or elements thereof. China is said to be developing an analog to the E-2C Hawkeye, flying a prototype JZY-01. The Y-7J (03) Chinese carrier-capable tactical airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft and also named JZY-01. New Chinese AEW aircraft based on the Soviet-designed Antonov An-24 series. Designated Y-7J, the aircraft seemed be a sort of hybrid: the front half is based on the Xian Y-7, the Chinese version of the famous Antonov An-26; the tail section is much similar to the Northrop Grumman C-2 and, above all, the E-2 Hawkeye that is the U.S. AEW platform serving on all the American supercarrier.
