Walid

The Al-Walid APC is an Egyptian produced variant of the BTR-152. The Walid was first used by Egypt during the 1967 war with Israel. This Egyptian-made light APC has been supplied to Burundi, Iraq, Sudan, and Yemen. In most of those countries it is used for internal security and riot control, but in Egypt, it was primarily used for reconnaissance work. The vehicle consists of a German-designed truck chassis with an armored body. Open-top and fully enclosed versions are available. The open top versions have a canvas cover for the top. The commander has a weapon mount, and others can be counted along the edges of the roof. There is a door on each side of the cab, and another door in the rear of the hull, and there are three firing ports on each side of the hull.

One variant is the Walid self-propelled wheeled multiple-rocket launcher manned by a crew of two and armed with either six or twelve 80 mm rocket- launcher tubes (depending upon model). The Walid has a top speed of 86 kmh and a range of 800 km.
