Atlas Impala MkI & MkII

Acquired from Italy in the late 1960s, the Impala was replaced in 2005 by the Hawk from BAE Systems. The Aermacchi MB326M Impala is a versatile trainer and light attack aircraft. With three universal hardpoints under each wing, the Impala can carry up to 4,000 lbs of stores. This makes the aircraft ideal for both captive-carriage and air drop of developmental weapons and sensor packages.

A collection of licence-built Aermacchi MB-326 type aircraft served in the South African Air Force. Includes both jet trainer and light attack versions. The De Havilland Vampire was the aircraft that brought the South African Air Force into the Jet age. It came into service in South Africa in 1950, replacing the Spitfire and served as front-line fighters until 1956, when the Sabre replaced them. They were then used as trainers until 1972 when the Impala (AERMACCHI MB326) finally replaced them.
