On the world fighter market Russias Sukhoi is pinning its hopes, in the near future, on a substantially modernized Su-35 multi-role fighter. The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) forecast the sale of about 200 Su-35 fighters in a 50:50 ratio (for the Russian Air Force and abroad) by 2020. According to TsAMTO, Algeria (12-24 units), Venezuela (24 units), Egypt (12-24 units), China (up to 48 units), Libya (12-24 units), Syria (24 units) and a number of other countries may become possible customers of the Su-35.

As of 2010, a preliminary agreement was reported reached with Libya on the purchase of 12 Su-35 fighters. Negotiations were underway with Venezuela to supply 24 Su-35s. By by 2022 nothing had come of these deals. Moscow needed to find a buyer for the Su-35 after Egypt, Algeria and Indonesia pulled out of deals to buy the jets amid economic sanctions against Moscow. It is believed that the US threatened to punish Cairo, Algiers and Jakarta if they went ahead with the purchases.

According to open sources, the export value of the Russian fighter is about $ 104 million - China paid $ 2.5 billion for two Su-35 squadrons. F-35 is twice as expensive - in November 2020, the US authorities approved the sale of 50 aircraft to Israel for US$10.4 billion dollars. The F-35, which has coped with "childhood diseases", is offered for US$115 million without spares etc.

The model must be an interim type between todays Su-30MK in various configurations and a prospective fifth-generation fighter, whose deliveries may start in the second half of the next decade. The Su-35 is a 4++ generation aircraft employing technologies of the fifth generation. They make it superior to all other 4th generation fighters now under development worldwide. Thanks to these technologies, the Su-35 could dominate the world market, outperforming other proposed multi-role fighters.

The Su-35, currently the Russian Air Force's most advanced fighter, first caught the eye of buyers and the public at the Paris Air Show in June 2013, where pilots displayed the aircraft's impressive acrobatic capabilities, including the Pugachev Cobra maneuver. Negotiations for the export of the Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet are coming to fruition, with orders from buyers in South American and Asian countries expected to be agreed upon in the near future, sources close to talks on the export of the aircraft have told military correspondent Ilya Kramnik in July 2015.

Potential buyers include Pakistan and Brazil, with Kramnik also referring to figures from manufacturer Polet, which makes parts for the Su-35, showing increased production of its onboard system in order to fulfil orders for a total of 60 aircraft from Vietnam, Venezuela and Indonesia.

The sticking point between the Russian and Chinese negotiators over the size of the order is nearing a resolution, and expects a compromise order of 24 fighters for China's Air Force. Russian negotiators, originally seeking to export a larger order of 48 planes, are also negotiating safeguards in the event that China makes a copy of its plane, as was the case with its Su-27 fighter jet, which was copied by the Chinese J-11 jet.

Russias state technologies corporation Rostec head Sergey Chemezov said 09 November 2015 that the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Brazil were interested in the purchase of Sukhoi Su-35 jet fighters. "There is high interest for the jet, but no strict contracts have been [signed] yet. In addition to the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Brazil are interested in it," Chemezov told reporters.

Russia has offered the Su-35 to India, Malaysia, Algeria and Greece; no firm contracts have materialised, with the first three countries having been occupied with other fighter projects and unlikely to procure the modernized Su-35. In 2010, Libya was expected to sign a contract for twelve Su-35s as part of a bigger military transaction that would have included S-300PMU-2 surface-to-air missiles, Kilo-class submarines, and T-90 tanks. The civil war in Libya and the resulting military intervention caused Rosoboronexport to miss out on US$4 billion in contracts that were never signed.

Given the interest of a number of other countries, the Su-35 may adopt the banner of the best-selling heavy fighter on the planet from the Su-30, although it is unlikely to be compared to the number of aircraft delivered to foreign customers with this machine, given the titanic scale of their purchase by India (272 contracted Su-30MKI without taking into account possible additional purchases and upgrades available).

The next buyers of the Su-35 were expected to be Algeria, which already has several dozen Su-30MKI (A) fighters as part of the Air Force, and Iran, where the restrictions on the supply of a number of weapons systems to this country expired in 2020. In addition, Pakistan was showing interest in the Su-35, which is understandable, given that it is the only truly modern heavy multipurpose fighter that Pakistan can get without serious political problems. Delivery of the first Su-35 to Indonesia was to begin as early as the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020.

Four Su-35 fighters with camouflage characteristic of the Egyptian MiG-29M / M2 were seen 24 June 2020 on the territory of the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The aircraft were presumably prepared for shipment to Egypt under the existing contract, the Egyptian MiGs have a similar camo.

Moscow is ready to negotiate with Ankara on the supply of Russian Su-57 fifth-generation fighters and Su-35 generation 4 ++, said the spokeswoman for the Russian Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation, Valeria Reshtnikova. On 11 March 2021, Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank told Sputnik that Turkey does not exclude the possibility of buying Russian Su-35 and Su-57 fighters, but prioritizes developing its own fifth-generation aircraft. "If there is a request from Turkey for [the purchase of] these aircraft, we are ready for negotiations on this issue," Reshtnikova told reporters.

Also, Russian specialists are ready to cooperate with the Ottoman country's military in the development of the Turkish fifth-generation TF-X fighter, if requested by Ankara, he added.

Russia has received several applications from foreign customers for the supply of Su-35 multipurpose fighters. This was announced on 20 July 2021 by the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Dmitry Shugaev. We regularly receive official requests for Su-35 aircraft. In particular, since 2019, the FSMTC has received several requests from foreign partners for these machines. From someone we receive orders for deliveries, someone asks to conduct demonstration flights or visit the manufacturing plant, "Shugaev said.
