Michael Leese was a senior news executive who had a ringside seat for the most extra-ordinary stories that happened during a twenty-five-year career as a British national newspaper journalist.
From the death of Princess Diana and two Gulf wars to the fall of the Berlin Wall and 9/11 he was leading the teams bringing the first news to a wider public. Most of his career was spent at the London Evening Standard. His time in journalism has left him with an indelible passion for news and current affairs and he tries to replicate that in his crime thriller series, Jonathan Roper investigates.
His son is profoundly autistic. It was thinking about him and how he fits into this complicated world was the inspiration for the Roper character. Who is hig

Hello Judy
Thank you for getting in touch. I have indeed seen the Good Doctor, I think it is a well observed and well acted observation on a type of autism. On a personal note, I think it is shame that his brother was killed off at the beginning of the series. I think the relationship between siblings, where one is autistic and one is not, can be endlessly fascinating.
Just doing the re-write on book 4 which I am calling "Just Kill Them", so all should be ready for Easter.
Best wishes

Hello Kathi, thank you for your message and apologies for the late response.
I am glad that you enjoyed the books and it was good of you for leaving the positive reviews, and also taking the trouble to get in touch. Your kind words serve as inspiration as I get stuck into book 3, which I hope will be available from late spring. Best wishes Michael.(less)

Always look on the bright side of life.

I’ve been talking to a few people who enjoy the humour in the Jonathan Roper series and many have asked what prompted me to mix comedy with dark story lines.

Well the answer lies close to home. Literally. My son is profoundly autistic, and unlike Roper he struggles with language, although he found a way to communicate with us as he got older. But growing up he was a real handful and my wife and I s Read more of this blog post »

“there will be plenty of people who would see it as a career opportunity, the chance to remove a few senior people; maybe even step up to our jobs. So, my advice; if you do find something smelly, don’t let your guard down for a moment.”
Michael Leese, I Can See You

“It was always tempting to look for reasons why crimes were committed. If you could find a reason then maybe you could stop something happening again.”
Michael Leese, I Can See You

“I’m just surprised that people haven’t started calling us the ‘Odd Couple.’ The pause went on a moment too long. “We are being called the Odd Couple, aren’t we?”
