Space Unicorn Blues Launch Party!

Last Thursday was the first reading and launch party for Space Unicorn Blues! We had so much fun at the University Bookstore in Seattle, I read half of the first chapter and took questions from the audience. Everyone was super curious how unicorn horn worked!

Then we headed over to the local community center for cake and drinks. Check out this cake from Baked Seattle:

It looks exactly like the book and the details are phenomenal (and it tasted great)!

How do you devour books?

In 2018, I’m been trying to find a better way to read. I always *want* to read, but it’s often hard to find the time to sit down with a paperback. Or if I have the time, I don’t have the book.

I’m going to sheepishly admit that I was a paper purist for a long time after Kindles and Nooks showed up. I liked the feeling of paper between my fingers… of knowing that the book was on my shelf. Now, I primarily read ebooks. I like having a lighted book to read at night in the dark while my husband sleeps. I like having my entire library of books at my fingertips at all moments. I’m not 100% converted, but it’s my new preferred format.

Remember when audiobooks used to cost $79.99 for a set of ten CDs? We’ve come a long way since then. Now many audio versions are available from Audible around a $10 price point. These are great for catching up on reading while you drive, do chores, or work out.

I gave audiobooks a try and found that I get distracted too easily for listening to fiction. If you miss an important detail, you can lose the plot thread. Listening to nonfiction books, I don’t get lost so easily.

Carving out time is also tough. I love reading in bed at night, but I end up falling asleep or--if the book is a real page-turner--staying up way too late saying, “Just one more chapter!” My new tactic is to wake up early and read before getting moving for the day.

Where do you carve out time to read? Which format works best for you?
