The Cycles of Revelation Progress Update: Autumn 2024

For everyone who has read “Artifact of the Dawn,” and is looking forward to the next book in “The Cycles of Revelation” series, “The Medellan Conspiracy,” here is an update on my progress. I completed the rewrite of the manuscript in early June and sent it off to my beta readers. I received their feedback a couple of weeks ago and am about to begin making the next round of edits and rewrites based on that feedback.

The good news is that the feedback after the rewrite wasn’t as extensive as I...

NoMoreWriMo: Why I Left NaNoWriMo Behind

Since I have long participated in NaNoWriMo and wrote many of my novels during this November event, I feel the need to post my thoughts about the latest controversy.

Recently, the NaNoWriMo organization posted its stance on the use of generative AI in writing, which rightfully upset many people. Aside from the fact they won’t deem the use of generative AI to win NaNoWriMo as cheating, they went so far as to call the condemnation of generative AI as classist and ableist.

From what I co...

Meet Me at Fort Collins Comic-Con

If you are anywhere near Northern Colorado in mid-August, drop by Fort Collins Comic-Con, drop by and say hello. I’ll be in the vendor room selling and autographing copies of “Artifact of the Dawn.” (Unfortunately, “The Medellan Conspiracy” has been delayed, but will still publish later this year).

This year the Fort Collins Comic-Con has some fantastic guests, including Dr. Erin MacDonald, an astrophysicist, writer, speaker, producer, and currently the official science advisor for the St...

The Medellan Conspiracy: An Excerpt

A Discovery

Jevan hefted the dusty, leather-bound tome onto the table where he’d been working. He opened it slowly, because of how fragile these ancient books were. Then he set to his task, running the translation scanner over the title page. An Accounting of the Relicta Collis Antiquities.

The title was unremarkable, so Jevan continued scanning, not paying much attention at first. He was grateful for the scanner he’d been given by the Athla’naa, because it saved him so much time. It di...

Indie Authors, Stop Falling for These Social Media Scams!

With the rise of more independent and self-published authors, scammers are having a field day, taking advantage of new authors as they learn to navigate the publishing world. While on the face of them, many of these scams seem obvious, but for inexperienced, and likely frustrated, newcomers they might seem like the friendly helping hand they’ve been hoping for.

Digital Marketing/Book Publishing Scams

One of the most frequent scams I’ve seen on social media are those offering digital market...

How do you feel about snippets?

While I’m waiting for my beta readers to complete their review of “The Medellan Conspiracy,” I was thinking of dropping some non-spoilery snippets. Just something to tide over my readers until the book launches. What do you think?

My Writing Journey

I have any number of places in my life I could count as the beginning of my journey as a writer.

Childhood

The earliest recollection I have of writing goes back to when I was in second grade. It must have been some time in October, and my teacher, Mrs. Mary Jean Smith, asked all of us to pull out a sheet of paper.
