We were living together in New York and I'd come home after a long day and was 'in a mood.' He was cooking dinner and I was just acting miserable. He threw down the spoon he was using to stir the sauce and exclaimed, 'I can't do this anymore. I can't deal with you and your moods. It's exhausting. It's draining.'

I saw the pain in his face and heard it in his voice. He was always so patient with me but after months like this, months of him never knowing if I was going to be happy or pissed off or just in a weird, depressed mood, I knew I had pushed him over the edge.

That was my wake-up call. It was the first time I had ever lived with someone and realized that there were things about myself, and my way of being in the world, I needed to look at and examine. I wanted to be better for him, but also for myself. (less)
