I was born in 1942, so I'm an autumn rather than a spring chicken. I live outside of Tampa, Florida with my fabulous wife Anita, and one son in college, Montana. I have three older boys, Mark, Gary, and Anthony, all of whom have married and presented us with terrific grandchildren.

My education gravitated to science, starting out as a physics major and my depression era folks told me I'd never make a living as a theoretical physicist (probably right, and Cosmology wasn't a career field then), so I moved to Electronics Engineering. I devoted (was drafted into) service for the US Army, and caring not a whit for my electronics background, they offered this draftee a job as an Air Traffic Controller. Cool new career field. Retired, I now work as

That means months longer waiting for the next series books, but I'll fulfill a promise to explore a thread (or two) from the series. Rippers and young Kobani, meeting and greeting folks that either like them..., or want them dead. (less)

The galaxy is extremely old, we are relative newcomers. Are we new kids on the block? I'd think so, but we've had no visitors, so perhaps we are hyper active. I decided that was how I'd depict humanity, except not all aliens we meet would be sedate, but most of them were.

It initially wasn't to be a series, it would have been a single book. I wrote the first nine chapters, and then, when I explored how to get published, I despaired of ever having that happen. Those chapters sat on various computers, on floppy disks, then hard drives or flash drives until 2011, when my son Gary, told me about self-published books. I resumed writing, and published Koban in August 2012. Along the way, I discovered that one book couldn't cover the story I wanted to tell as I expanded the idea. I called it a series, leaving it open ended in case it was liked, or suitable for a quick end if not. The reception has been (predominately) very positive, and increases with each novel. I see a number of spinoffs, which could explore who the Kobani are, and what they will become. What other challenges are awaiting them in the Milky Way?(less)

Stephen’s Recent Updates

When Empires Collide by Stephen W. Bennett
"Love this series to death. Awesome world building by the author."
Koban Universe 1 by Stephen W. Bennett
"I enjoyed this book but nowhere near as much as the full length books in the Koban series. It had four stories I think, and I really enjoyed the first one.

The first story was about Maggie exploring an abandoned dome on an unexplored Koban continent." Read more of this review »
Galactic Police Force by Stephen W. Bennett
"No audio copy found on Goodreads but adding here as I got both kindle and audio but only ended up listening to audio.
As usual Stephen W. Bennet and Eric Michael Summerer have produced an engaging, exciting listen that I can see me returning to again " Read more of this review »

“Smiling, she answered, “You can’t mean that! Why there are people who would give an arm and a leg to be a decorated Kobani.” She started to turn away but stopped. Looking back she added, “Oh, right... You already did that.” She laughed as she walked out.”
