Danika hasn’t had an easy life. Being insanely attracted to bad boys has never helped make it easier.

One look at Tristan, and every brain cell she possessed went up in smoke. This man was trouble with a capital T. It was a given.
She knew better. Bad boys were bad. Especially for her. Considering her history, it was crazy to think otherwise. So why did crazy have to feel so damn fine?

For as long as she could remember, Danika had been focused on the future with single-minded purpose. Tristan came along and taught her everything there was to know about letting go, and living in the present. She fell, hard and deep. Of course, that only made her impact with the ground that much more devastating.

Bad Things is about Tristan and Danika, and their train wreck of a love story. This series can be read as a standalone, or with the Up in the Air series.

Bad Things is a full length novel, at roughly 105,000 words.
This book is intended for ages 18 and up.

Holy hotness, guys!! You HAVE to meet Tristan Vega!!
“I’m going to fuck you hard on the hood of this car, in the pouring rain. And. You. Are. Not. Going. To. Forget. It.”

*fans self*

I loved this book!! It made me swoon, squee, and swear which pretty much is the perfect mix, right?

I couldn’t put it down. Another winner from R.K. Lilley!

When Tristan unexpectedly becomes a fixed part of Danika’s world, he throws her whole life out of whack. Fun, flirty, and bossy with a devilish charming that could get just about anyone to do just about anything, he was Trouble with a capital T and just what Danika was trying to avoid. He was ripped, tattooed and baked the hell of chocolate chip cookies. Oh, and did I mention the dimples yet? ‘cuz, SWOON!! They quickly worked out a “friends-only” rule but guess how long that lasted?

“I’m bad… when it comes to relationships, which is why I don’t do them.”

I couldn’t help it. I had to ask. “So what do you do?”

“Hookups. Brief, casual hookups. How about you?”

I shook my head, pursing my lips at him… “I do relationships. No exceptions. Never had a casual hookup in my life.”

He sighed… “Well I guess that makes things less complicated. We’ll be friends, then.”

Try as they might to keep things platonic, their feelings just could not be ignored.

Let me tell you guys, Tristan and Danika had CHEMISTY!! Off the charts, scorching chemisty! Their banter had me smiling almost non-stop. Danika was sassy and sarcastic and Tristan was bossy and charmingly charismatic and their combination made for some absolutely brilliant scenes!

“You making a move on me?” I called out to him, but I wasn’t pushing him away…

His smile was innocent enough, but i thought there was a hint of something else in his eyes.

“Just dancing, sweetheart.”

The whole book just flowed. From start to finish it kept my attention and made me steadily fall deeper and deeper in love with the story and the characters.

They were opposites in so many ways. Danika only did relationships and Tristan only did hook ups. On the surface that might just seem like personality traits but in reality it was the heart breaking events from their past that had shaped them into people who needed that. Danika came from an abusive home and craved the commitment and stability of a loving relationship. Tristan had fallen in love young and had thrown himself wholeheartedly into a relationship only to have his heart broken and trodden on by the one person he was committed to. They both had trust issues and deep hurts but at the end of the day they both cared deeply for each other… it was just a question of admitting it to themselves.

“Tell me not to kiss you.”

“Don’t kiss me.”

“Mean it.”

“I can’t.”

I have to admit, I didn’t expect how strongly and completely I was going to fall for Tristan. But guys, I fell HARD. Oh my Lord! This guy baked, had tats and dimples. That alone would melt my heart but he was also the lead singer in a rock band, was insanely protective of Danika and took “charming” to a whole new level. The things he said just made me SWOOOOON. He cared SO much her. You could feel it in every action he made.

There were times when I wanted to shake him but my heart also broke for him. You could just tell that he was one of THE good guys. You know? The one’s who’ll put their everything on the line for their girl. But after having his heart broken before, he had become guarded – determined never to put himself in that position again. Ever. But something about Danika was different and brought out the part of him that wanted to commit… he just couldn’t. Not at first. It was so hard for him to give his heart over again. But what that meant was that when he did, it was that much more meaningful because it showed not only the depth of his feelings but also the depth of his trust.

And seriously, have I mentioned how protective he was? There is just something about an Alpha who is willing to do ANYTHING for his girl that just makes my heart race.

Danika was a strong-willed yet very sweet heroine. I took a strong liking to her and felt very sympathetic to the things she went through. It was nice to have a heroine I didn’t get frustrated with. Her back story was just plain horrible. Seriously, the poor girl!! Life had really screwed her over but I absolutely adored that Tristan not only wanted to hear about it but also wanted to talk with her about it, openly, honestly.

They built a wonderful friendship filled to the very brim with scorching sexual tension… no joke, we’re talking off the charts hotness here! No kink, but Tristan was definitely Dominant in the bedroom and trust me, you will be fanning yourself …

“Danika, sweetheart?” He rasped.

“Yes, Tristan?”

“I’m done being sweet, if you don’t mind. I’d like to fuck you really hard if that’s okay.”

But all good things must come to an end. At the end of the day, they were both just so strongly shaped by their past. Tristan couldn’t do commitment and Danika couldn’t do casual and when the hurt came, it HURT. I understood where both of them were coming from but it didn’t stop it from being oh so painful.

But I loved seeing them work through it. And, as with every other part of their relationship, it was with openness and honesty. Yes, there were some pretty painful, gut-wrenching mistakes made but because of how much I felt I understood what led up to it and because of the way they worked their way back together, I never found myself frustrated with the story. Yes, I swore (out-loud) and I might have face-palmed once or twice but at the same time, I loved it! A lot of it was really about Tristan figuring out what his heart wanted. Everyone makes mistakes and everything about him was just so genuine and sincere that I couldn’t help but forgive everything he did that hurt my heart and Danika’s especially given his profuse and sincere apology. And, to be fair to him, his mistakes were never stupid, they were understandable given his past… they just hurt like fucking hell.

The ending built in intensity. There were ohhhhhhh FUCK moments, tragic moments and finally happiness.

There is no relationship cliffhanger at the end but their story is far from over. We are treated to the first chapter of the next book at the end of this one which gives a solid idea of where their story will go. Also, given some of the things we know about their future from Up In The Air, we know they have a rocky road ahead of them but I am so looking forward to seeing them work through it.

The author has said that she is 99% sure that this will be a 2-book series and she has a whole series of FAQs that I’ve linked at the bottom of the page here. I have come to really trust this author’s writing and I can’t wait to see where she takes their story next.

Timeline-wise, this book took place before In Flight and we actually get several awesome cameos from James Cavendish (the hero of the Up In The Air series) but in his pre-Bianca days. But it was cool to get to see him in a whole new light because we knew him as the kinky fuckhot lover, but in this book we actually get to see him at work.

There are no spoilers in this book for the Up In The Air series. I’d really call this a spin-off series. Many of the characters in from the UITA series not only make an appearance, but are main supporting characters in this book but at the same time, you could easily read this as a stand alone. My personal recommendation though would be to read the UITA series in full first. I think you’d get the most complete picture that way but it’s not absolutely necessary.

R.K. Lilley’s writing is addictive, her stories are captivating and you are guaranteed to fall in love with her characters. There is a reason she’s one of my favorite authors! I highly recommend this book! It was an absolutely wonderful read!

4.5 stars!

Here's my casting (also, see above):

******************

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS about this series from the author!!

Q. Is Bad Things going to be a series?

A. Yes. Bad Things will be a series, titled Tristan & Danika, and I’m hoping to keep it to two books, both of which will be full length novels.

Q. Is this a spin-off of the Up in the Air trilogy?

A. I would call this a connected series, rather than a spin-off. In fact, you could even read it standalone, and if you haven’t read Up in the Air, Bad Things does not have any spoilers for the series, so you could actually read it first.

Q. Who are Tristan and Danika again?

A. These characters were introduced in Grounded, but you don’t have to go back and brush up on exactly who they are, if you don’t remember, as this series introduces them anew, in fact it starts at the very beginning of their love story.

Q. What the f*** happened between Tristan & Danika?

A. That one I won’t be answering, I’ll be showing, and the answer may surprise you. Their history is a lot more rich and heartbreaking than anyone imagined, and the damage is a lot worse than a limp.

Q. If I’ve never read one of your books before, could I start with Bad Things?

A. Absolutely! This book has no spoilers for the others, so you could certainly start with this one.

Q. Is Bad Things a BDSM series , like Up in the Air?

A. It is not. There is certainly an element of domination in the dynamic of T&D’s relationship, and there’s kink, even bondage, but not the S&M. That just isn’t who these characters are, or how they relate to each other.

Q. If you had to pick a favorite, which would it be - James Cavendish or Tristan Vega?

A. I’d rather pull out all of my hair and shave off my eyebrows than answer that question! I’m totally in love with both of them!

Q. How long is Bad Things?

A. I just got the paperback proof, and it is 363 pages!

Q. When will this book be released on Nook and KOBO?

A. Bad Things will be available on Amazon, in paperback, Nook, and Kobo on June 11th. It is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and Kobo.

I’ve also submitted the book for iTunes, but I can’t say when they will make it available, as their review process is arbitrary and drawn-out.

R.K. Lilley did it again! Now, Tristan was no Mr. Cavendish, but he was pretty dang close! It was intense- sweet, sexy, and an emotional roller coaster, but I loved every minute!

Tristan is a club promoter. He is in a band. He is all kinds of sexy and awesome, but he has commitment issues.

description

Danika is working as a live in nanny. She also goes to school full time. Even though she’s only in her early twenties, she is living the life of someone much older. And she ONLY does relationships. No flings, no friends with benefits. EVER.

description

Tristan’s needs somewhere to stay for just a week or so, he crashes with Danika’s boss Jerry. Danika knows Tristan is trouble when she first meets him, but she can’t resist his charms. They become fast friends.
‘I’m bad with relationships with women my own age, too, that’s why I don’t do them.’

‘So what do you do?’

‘Hookups. Brief, casual hookups. How about you?’

‘I do relationships. No exceptions. Never had a casual hookup in my life.’

‘Well, I guess that makes things less complicated. We’ll be friends then.’

Tristan knows Danika is special. They spend weeks together, dancing, clubbing, just hanging out and getting to know one another.
Danika was like a breath of fresh air. A breath of fresh air I didn’t get to fuck.

The sexual tension between them builds and builds... Even though they are ‘just friends’ they find it necessary to make a list of rules...

THE FRIENDS DON’T LIST:
1- No sex, no making out, no kissing.
2- No getting jealous or complaining about who the other one is dating or hooking up with.
3- We can hang out whenever we want, but we won’t call it a date, even if we’re doing date-like things.
4- No nagging
5-Always remember we like each other too much to sleep together, and that sleeping together will ruin EVERYTHING.
6- If the words ‘I love you’ are ever mentioned, it will be assumed that it is in a friendship type context
7- No talking dirty, or talking about dates with your vibrator

These rules last... but only for a little while. These two just can’t deny what they have together. They are both falling for one another, even though they don’t want to admit it.

Tristan will do anything to be with Danika- but she has become his best friend. He can’t risk losing her. He won’t.
‘I want you so badly that I’d do just about anything to have you.’ he said roughly. ‘The only thing I won’t do, though, is risk losing you. Can you promise me that if we do this, I won’t lose you?’

So they are able to balance it for a while.
We became passionate lovers and stayed the best of friends.

These two have chemistry... and let me tell you- it is OFF THE CHARTS!

Things don’t stay great for long... Danika is falling even harder for Tristan, but he still can’t admit his feelings for her. He has deluded himself to believe that they are just ‘friends with benifits’ and that just doesn’t work for her. He doesn’t know what to do. He wants to be there for her, but he just can’t be what she needs right now.

“I’ll always stick around for you, Danika. I mean that. You’re my best friend. No matter what, I’ll always be there for you, if you want me.”

After making some collosel mistakes, Tristan FINALLY gets it together. He realizes what an idiot he has been and that he needs Danika. He doesn’t need all the other girls. He may not be ready to give her those three little words, but he wants her to forgive him, and let him try to be her boyfriend. A title he hasn’t worn in a very long time.
“I’ve got no right to ask, but will you give me the chance to prove that I can be better than I’ve been?”

“I need you. I’ve never needed anyone or anything the way I need you. I need you in a way that would break me if I ever lost you. Being with you makes every part of my life better. Every second I get with you is the best second of my life.

If you have read R.K. Lilley’s ‘Up In the Air’ trilogy, you know that this woman knows how to write a sex scene! This book was freakin’ HOT! Smokin’ hot! Tristan was sexy, dominate, and some of the things that came out of his mouth had me fanning myself. Seriously!

Once Danika and Tristan are ‘together’ it is NOT all rainbows and sunshine. They have a lot of obstacles and difficulties. I swooned, I smiled, I laughed, I cried like a baby .
Tristan was one of the sweetest, most charming and sexy leading men. Sure, he was a commitmaphobe with some manwhoroish ways- but I adored this guy! He will make you swoon! Danika was strong, funny and sassy. I really enjoyed her character as well.

This story was amazing. Just wonderful. I also LOVED the cameo’s from my very own Mr. Beautiful- James Cavendish. Just so everyone knows, there is NO CLIFFHANGER! But I am extremely nervous to see what is going to transpire in the second book. From seeing where these two end up in ‘Mile High’, I’m biting my nails just waiting for the fall out. Lets hope book 2 comes out soon! A great 5 star read :D

“I see now that I didn’t know a thing about love before I met you. When it’s right, like it is with us, it doesn’t make your life harder, it makes your life better even when its hard.”

♥ 5 STARS. ♥

OH.MY.GOD.

I absolutely LOVED this book! After having devoured the Up In the Air-series, I was already a fan of author R.K. Lilley, but now I just became an even bigger one. Seriously, if you have not read this book yet, read it ASAP! I assure you, you won't regret it. This book had all the ingredients for it to be an absolute MUST READ.

I loved Danika's sarcasm and feisty character, Tristan's sexy bad boy-attitude, their playful banter and let's not forget, the "off the charts" HOT sex scenes, including a certain scene on the hood of a car...

"I am going to fuck you hard on the hood of this car in the pouring rain. And. You. Are. Not. Going. To. Forget. It."

THE STORY

Danika has not led an easy life so far. Having been through a dramatic youth and being estranged from her only family members left, she's become an expert at keeping people at a distance. At the age of twenty one, she feels like she has finally found her place in life. She works her way through college by working as a nanny for a family who has become a huge aspect of her life. She has a few close friends and enough chores to keep her busy throughout the week.

Her life isn't perfect but it's peaceful and in control and that's exactly the way she likes it. In the past, Danika has always fallen for the bad boys who left her feeling heartbroken and empty inside. So, she has decided to stay single for a while and to stay clear any tempting bad boys. But then she meets Tristan Vega, the ultimate bad boy. The moment she meets him, she knows he's trouble with a capital T. And yet, with his irresistible charms, she can't seem to stay away from him.

"He smiled his best smile, the one that ruined me for every other smile in the world."

Tristan is the perfect charmer; he's sweet, playful and little bit arrogant. Aside from being a club promotor in Vegas, he's also the lead singer of an upcoming band and has women lining up to get a slice of his attention. All in all, he's the ultimate player. Which is why Danika has decided nothing can ever happen between them. Danika is the kind of girl who only ever has serious relationships while Tristan is the opposite, he has nothing but casual hook-ups.

But Tristan and Danika become fast friends, best friends even, who trust each other no matter what. They're comfortable around each other and for the first time, in a long time, Danika, who has always been a control freak, starts to enjoy the little things in life.

"For the first time in my life I trusted someone enough to take that control from me, I gave him that control willingly, and that trust healed something raw and aching deep inside of me."

Tristan shows Danika that it's okay to have fun every once in a while. He takes her out, and together they start partying almost every night. But, the more time they spend together, the closer they become and the more the sexual tension grows between them. They even make up a list of rules to follow so they won't tempt each other to cross the line of their friendship. But after a while, the inevitable happens and when they *finally* become more than just friends, they both know there's no turning back.

**

"Danika, sweetheart?"

"Yes, Tristan."

"I'm done being sweet, if you don't mind. I need to fuck you really hard now, if that's okay."

**

"I know what you taste like. I know how it feels to have you come against my tongue. What it feels like to have you clench around my cock when you lose your fucking mind. And you, you've tasted me. I've shoved my cock so deep down your throat I felt your tonsils, Danika. Are we going to forget all of that?

I've had my mouth all over you, my hands...my teeth. And your cunt has squeezed my cock so tight that my vision went blurry. Am I supposed to forget that, too?"

They both knew from the start; bad things were going to happen if they spend too much time together...

But neither of them can resist the urge of spending as much time with each other as possible. Which sometimes, as a reader, felt like witnessing a train wreck without being able to look away. They love each other and they're pretty much perfect for each other, yet, drama seems to follow them around whenever they're together. They have so much in common, but when it comes to certain matters, they're complete opposites. The question is, will their love be enough or will their differences be their undoing? Because of the beautiful moments they've shared .

"When it's right, like it is with us, it doesn't make your life harder, it makes it better, even when it's hard. I've never been as happy as I've been with you and I don't begin to know how to get past that."

A little warning for future readers: during the last few chapters, something happened that I did NOT see coming, something that left me emotional and heartbroken and that even made me shed a few tears.

Overall, this book was an absolute page-turner for me. Danika and Tristan's story was unique, different, powerful, funny, sexy and at times tragic, which turned out to be the perfect mixture of ingredients to keep me glued to the pages from the moment I started reading it. And although, it did not end with a cliffhanger, I'm already anxiously awaiting the next part of Tristan and Danika's crazy, wild and beautiful love story!

Uhh... Wtf was this bs?
The beginning to middle was a solid 4-5 stars for me cuz the MCs were likeable and the chemistry was amazing but then everything just went downhill after their separation .

First of all, Danika (h), is the worst nanny ever. How are her employers so sweet to her and haven’t fired her lazy ass yet? She parties and gets drunk EVERY damn night, hungover every day, goes home at 4 am then wakes up at 7 am to take care of the kids... She’s basically leeching off the ppl who care for her and like, How is she surviving?
This is the most unrealistic shit ever.
How is this not talked about more in this book?
How can she party every night? I’m honestly surprised she didn’t get alcohol poisoning or liver failure.

Second, I’ve never been this mad at an h since Violet from At Peace. Danika is supposed to be this sarcastic, independent, sassy woman, and she was... in the beginning. After that, she was just the biggest pushover/doormat h I’ve EVER read in a looong time. One thing I really hate is when h says they’re strong but her actions show she’s just a horny idiot. I swear, every time H hurts her and makes a mistake, he gives a half-ass apology, she EASILY forgives him, and worse, she says I LOVE YOU when the H NEVER says it back and they have make up sex All. The. Damn. Time.

I truly feel embarrassed for her and I’m so ashamed that she’s part of the sisterhood.

How can she forgive Tristan (H) who slept with OW the SAME night she poured her heart out?
How can she forgive him SO EASILY for ignoring her ass for two weeks after her declaration of love, sleeping with so many women, getting drunk every night?
How can she be in love with a hypocritical jealous asshole who beats up any man who touches her and genuinely scares her?
How can she forgive him for outright flirting with his ex and making the “oh but it was harmless flirting” excuse?
How can she forgive this asshole who fucked OW just hours before they reconciled, knowing she was gonna show up at the club?

Did we get a good grovel from all this? HELL NO. All he did was distract her with sex and then give a half-ass apology. What’s worse is that she gives in to the sex so easily! Wtf is this bs?! Even if there was grovelling, I would NEVER forgive this disgusting asshole. The fact that he slept with OW during their separation right after h told him she loved him AND right after they have been intimate with one another for over a week was the most disgusting and unforgivable thing EVER! And the fact that the OW situation is brushed off so easily?? Wtf. Why? So, he slept with so many women right after she knows he knows she loves him and she’s just gonna forgive and forget AND have sex with him so easily? Wtf is this bullshit??

She never made him work for it. Literally, after weeks of not seeing him, first thing he did was make a move on her. He did NOT apologize and grovel, oh no, he thought with his dick (unsurprisingly) and the h was just a willing participant, clearly not thinking that she deserves better cuz she’s thinking with her nether region.

I really hate heroines who are so blinded with lust (and yes, its lust, NOT love) they become the biggest idiot doormat in the history of doormat heroines.

And ugh. The love that they supposedly feel for one another? Yeah... that’s like the biggest lie out there.
All I’ve ever read is them lusting for one another and thinking about having sex all the time.
How in the world is this “love”?

I have never read one intimate scene not revolving around sex in this book that made me believe the H loves h. You know why? Cuz the fact that he easily brushed off h’s love and slept with so much OW during their separation just proves he doesn’t care about her, and that honestly made him so irredeemable in my eyes. I never believed that he loved her. Man ho-ing his way when he knew he broke the h’s heart was the most selfish thing I’ve ever read.
And also, how can I believe he loved her when all he wanted from her was sex? I don’t see him being interested in her as a person. Every chance he gets, he tells h how sexy she is and how much he wants to fuck her and nothing else. How can I believe he genuinely has TRUE feelings for her??

Aren’t heroes supposed to be swoony and romantic? Tristan is the biggest fuckboy H I’ve ever read. How can I fall in love with him when all he’s done is think with his dick?

And let’s not even start with the h fighting the OW instead of the H. Uh bishh they’re not the ones who broke your heart so why tf is she fighting the OW instead of the her “boyfriend” who couldn’t keep his dick in his pants?

And the sex scenes were hot in the beginning but they honestly just felt like fillers. They were not full of emotions. They were just straight out lust.

The last half of this book is the most infuriating thing I’ve ever read. I never wanted to smack someone more than I wanted to smack both Danika and Tristan.
They’re the stupidest, horniest, dumbest MCs I have EVER read.
And wtf was that ending?

4 CONSUMING but EXHAUSTING stars!

HOLY COW! I'm mentally EXHAUSTED! I wasn't prepared for such an angsty, emotional, and gut-wrenching story. In fact, I felt it became a bit over-the-top with the all angst and drama toward the end. However, I was completely spellbound and consumed while reading this book.

Where this story really shined for me was in the writing, characterization and chemistry between the two main leads. It was exceptional. In fact, I'm not sure I've read a book that had better characterization or character chemistry.

This book revolves solely around Tristan (LOVE his name) and Danika's feelings and relationship. They had incredible chemistry right from the start–which made for scorching hot, passionate love scenes–and I was quickly drawn into their topsy-turvily world.

I LOVED both Tristan's and Danika's characters. Tristan is your typical jaded-by-love bad boy whose man-whoring ways left much to be desired in my opinion (I hated that aspect of the plot and his character). But, boy, did he sweep me off my feet with his dimpled smile and off-the-chart charisma. As for Danika...well...she was simply fantastic. I adored her. I sympathized with her. I cried and laughed with her. And I understood her. I lived this book through her eyes and went on the gut-wrenching roller coaster ride that was Tristan with her.

My only true beef with this story– other than wishing the author would have include their whole story in one long book instead of two–was the excessive drama and angst...especially toward the end. Other than that, I thoroughly loved reading this book. Angst exhaustion and all.

Note: Even though this book isn't the last of Tristan and Danika's story, it does end with a HEA. Thank heavens for that!!!

Light-footed and heavy-hearted.
Controlled.
Beautiful.

And she doesn’t want to fall in love again.
Love is too fragile.
Too toxic.

And then she meets Tristan.

With an angel’s face and the devil’s body.

And charm that, alone, could light up Vegas.

And then he meets Danika.

With an attraction between the two that leaves them both shaking from resistance, these two find themselves in a white-knuckled romance that unravels them both.

And try as they might to stop it from consuming them both…

They can’t.

“I know what you taste like, Danika” I interrupted, my tone harsh. “I know how it feels to have you come against my tongue. What it feels like to have you clench around my cock while you lose your fucking mind. I’ve shoved my cock so deep down your throat I felt your tonsils. Are we going to forget all of that?”

“I’ve had my mouth all over you, my hands… my teeth. And your cunt has squeezed my cock so tight that my vision went blurry. Am I supposed to forget that, too?”

A masterpiece! Tristan and Danika have a story told so realistically by R.K. Lilley, you'll ache for them in BAD THINGS, and have a hard time remembering this is a novel. A very well written novel at that. Off the charts sexy, soul-baring emotion, and explosive chemistry between the two mix together here into pure literary gold. BAD THINGS is a beautiful thing!

FOUR.5 TRISTAN STARS.

"I fell apart and came back together again, my whole world thoroughly rocked."

description

Welcome to 'Bad Things' a novel that combines easy reading and combustible in one addictive story. A tale about a love that is as much messy as it is meant to be. R K Lilley's books are a reading habit that I don't want to break anytime soon. I loved the 'in flight' series, James Cavendish is more than a little unforgettable, so it goes without saying that I was more than looking forward to what 'Bad things' would deliver.

What's it all about?
Along with her therapists help, friends advice and a drink or two, Danika has sworn of the perpetual bad boy. Having two failed relationships that would make a car crash look pretty, Danika is determined she will stay single. only problem is she has been labelled as a love addict and Tristan Vega has just walked into her life. Tristan is a jack of all trades, hardworking playboy. relationships are certainly not his thing, so when he encounters Danika, a friend who more than meets his match this bad boy feels like breaking the rules. With secrets well hidden and hearts on the line can this duo make it to the end or will what brought them together force them apart.

The characters ...
Tristan Vega is utterly delicious, charismatic, charming and described to bad boy perfection, not to mention he also has the tattoos and dimples to match. I can say without doubt that this character has hit my top five, he has spades of goodness but the package doesn't come without fault, this charmer has commitment failure written all over him along with some serious anger management issues, it's a rocky journey from start to finish with this gorgeous bad boy.

Danika is a book sweetheart, sassy confident and utterly likeable, she's as much beautiful as she is attracted to the wrong man. A character who is easy to fall for but has a large case of the needy girlfriend factor, with a loveless past and heartbreaking upbringing this character needs more than words to reassure her fragile heart.

What I loved ...
This author has a wicked talent for writing the most scrumptious male characters. I'm suggesting good reads has it own Oscar ceremony and RK Lilley should win best prize for creating these addictive male counterparts. That's not forgetting that she also creates a platform for a loveable heroine - hooray, this makes me one happy reader. The chemistry was I.N.S.A.N.E what this author can't create with words in a standoff between lovers ain't worth thinking about. One word to sum up this novel? (yes you guessed) H.O.T I enjoyed the push and pull of the fractious relationship. Best sexual tension in a book EVER, I seriously thought my kindle was going to spontaneously combust. 'Bad things' is a mix of intoxicating passion and a whole lot of failure to commit, it almost had it all for me but I couldn't commit to the full five so with that being said ..

Why not five?
Straight up this book was a five star read for me right up till about 70% mark then the double standards and immaturity started to come into play. I found myself irritated with both Tristan and Danika and it took the five star shine off for me. It's a HUGE shame that the last 30% rattled my rating, but don't be mislead by my 'why not five' this book is worth a read I'm sure you'll fall in book love.

Final thoughts ...
If you loved RK Lilly's In Flight series then this is not to be missed. If you like a story with a troubled love vibe then this will hit the spot. Great characters, plenty of hot and spicy and it also has a sneaky peek back to some of our favourite characters from the in flight series. You like the sound of this? Go get it readers ...

If, like me, you’re a bit of a R.K. Lilley fangirlie, then you’re probably already a little familiar with Tristan and Danika. We’ve had a few teasing hints of their story in the Up In The Air Trilogy. We know that they were not speaking to each other, that Danika limps and this has something to do with Tristan and that she has forgiven him but is unable to forget what has happened in the past. It’s all very mysterious and we begin this one years before when Danika is just twenty-one and they meet for the very first time.

Danika is instantly attracted to Tristan but he makes it clear that he is only into random hook ups with women and doesn’t do relationships. Danika, having grown up without much in the way of love, is always looking for relationships, desperate to be loved and is a bit of serial monogamist. They get on so well together and agree to be best friends and never allow a sexual relationship to damage that relationship. They mean a lot to one another and, despite the deep attraction they both feel, agree to just be friends and even make a list of rules to abide by.

Danika is such a sweetheart – she’s refreshingly honest, sarcastic, sassy, a fantastic dancer and is like a breath of fresh air to Tristan who is used to false, fake women. She’s had a hard and challenging childhood that’s shaped the way she feels about relationships today. She just wants to belong to someone and for them to belong to her, to be loved in a way that one one has ever loved her. They spark up an incredible friendship and start to mean so much to one another that they fear that their sexual attraction will ruin it and Tristan is desperate not to lose her.

Well, R.K. Lilley has done it again – she’s made me fall hard for her hero. Just how much did I love Tristan? Let me count the ways. He’s tall, handsome, built like a line-backer, muscular, sexy, devilishly charming, full of charisma and has a commanding presence that you just know is going to make him instinctively dominant in the bedroom. He’s a lot of fun and can actually be quite sweet. I quite simply ADORED him. I felt sad for him that he was so closed off to relationships and can see, of course, that Danika is 100% perfect for him but he’s just blinkered to those ideas but is pretty much infatuated with her and can’t bear the thought of losing her friendship. He makes a lot of mistakes but he’s big enough to admit when he’s wrong and realise how important Danika has become to him.

I really enjoyed this book – it’s so very sexy and charming. I fell a lot in love with Tristan possibly even more than Mr Cavendish and I adored him. There’s a few really sad moments that will have your eyes misting and I feel like we’ve only just begun – we know there’s much more to come and that it’s going to get darker. and that there’s a lot of pain ahead of them I’m incredibly invested in these two already and can’t wait to get further into their story in the upcoming Rock Bottom, in fact I’m desperate for it!! This all just felt so real, so well written – every emotion, every whisper from these two and I felt like I was right there with them. Totally Awesome.

James Cavendish makes a few cameo appearances and this is Mr Cavendish before he meets Bianca in his playboy days and I confess I swooned every time he made an entrance!

"Bad things were going to happen if we spent too much time around each other."

That's what Danika thought when she first met Tristan and she wasn't exactly wrong. She has always been attracted to bad boys but they are bad news for her. On top of that, Tristan only does hook ups and Danika only does relationships so her and Tristan decide to just be friends. And that really is for the best because they've both been through a lot in the past.

If you read the Up in the Air series, you've met Tristan and Danika and you what know what's going on with them...well, a little. This is what happens before so you don't need to read that series to read this one.

That being said, READ THIS BOOK! Holy Awesomesauce...sooo good. Tristan is yummy, Danika is feisty, the sex is AMAZING, it's emotional and of course, there's lots of drama! Another book that just sucked me in and I couldn't put it down.

Tristan...WOW! and what's weird is that I didn't feel that way reading the Up in the Air series, obviously because of how Danika is in that series and that's what just reeled me in. What could possibly have happened? He is a Rock Star, Sex God, can cook like no other, women, animals and kids love him, and he has dimples, muscles and tattoos, oh my!...the list goes on and on. Unfortunately, he does have some faults...and they are doozies! But it was wonderful getting some chapters in his POV.

description

I love Danika! I'm sorry to keep saying this but if you've read the Up in the Air series, your heart goes out to her. She's a fighter though so you know it had be to something serious and it's just killing me to not know! UGH! I do love that she finally took a chance on Tristan and is living in the moment and letting go of being so in control.

Tristan + Danika = HOT STUFF! I just can't say that enough...you have to read this just to read the sex scenes!! ;) Let's just leave it at...anywhere and anytime!!

description

There are a lot of great characters in the story...I especially loved Tristan's brother, Jared, and Frankie, whom we've met from...you guessed it, the Up in the Air series. We didn't get a lot of Frankie in that series though so it was great getting to know her better. Of course, lovely Mr. Cavendish makes several appearances. (You may get a little, slight spoiler about him if you read this book first but it's nothing you won't find out fairly early in his series.)

Some of the drama is over the top...and excessive. I felt like both Danika and Tristan weren't learning from their mistakes. And I was a little disappointed at Danika's change of behavior in the last half of the book. There's also a major scene that happens towards the end and to be honest, I'm not really sure the reasoning's behind it.

There is no cliffhanger...the story is just unfinished. Thankfully, we do get an excerpt of the next book, Rock Bottom, which had even more drama! And the title is a little scary but I still can't wait!

Favorite quotes:

♦ "On behalf of men everywhere, thank you for wearing sexy f*cking shoes. I’ll try to remember not to walk too fast.”

♦ “All I heard just now was ‘blah, blah, blah Danika wins’.”

♥ "Were you taking your own version of a ‘shower’ in there?”

“I’m going to f*ck you hard on the hood of this car, in the pouring rain. And. You. Are. Not. Going. To. Forget. It.”

His kiss was insidious, seeping into every part of me. He took me over in a way I couldn't believe I allowed. A few seconds into the kiss, and I was ready to relinquish all control, which I'd have sworn was the antithesis of everything I was before I'd met Tristan.

I knew we were going to be a dangerous combination. Bad things were going to happen if we spent too much time around each other.

This book! Sweet baby Jebus, THIS BOOK! I was not expecting to be as good as it was or to suck me into the story as it did.

Danika has a penchant for picking bad boys. So when she meets Tristan, whose sexy body, dimples and tattoos practically scream out bad, the icing on the cake is he's also in a band. She is determined to keep him at a distance. But as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Danika and Tristan start out as friends. Tristan is determined to show her a more exciting life than what he sees her currently leading.

In the intoxicating mist of Vegas nightlife, drinks, and sexual tension, they begin to get closer.

I loved Danika's reference to being drunk as "feeling pretty". She had some of the funniest lines in this book.
"I named my vibrator after you," I told him with a smirk. "He's small, but he makes up for it by working hard.

The sexual tension between these two is scorching. But after one failing relationship after another, Danika is determined to be single, and Tristan just doesn't do relationships. They can only ignore what's igniting between them for so long...
"Tell me not to kiss you," he said, when his lips were a breath away from mine.
"Don't kiss me," I told him, my voice a breathless rasp.
"Mean it."
"I can't," I gasped.

And it's not long before a few stolen kisses start to give way to more desperate passions.

This book had one of the hottest non-sex scenes I have ever read. I mean scorching, having to ice my ovaries after reading it, HAWT!

Now when these two finally give in to the inevitable? Holy.Mother.of.ORGASMS!

"Close your eyes," he whispered
"Tristan," I began, but he shushed me, pulling a black blindfold over my eyes, and tying it behind my head.
The world went dark, and I didn't understand the purpose of this until he began to touch me.
He kissed my neck as his hands moved up to my wrists. He cinched the handcuffs on very slowly.
"Do you expect me to struggle?"
"No, sweetheart. I expect you to submit."

Though Tristan likes his control, and there were several scenes with some very mild restraints, this is not at all a BDSM book. It does have an extremely possessive and sexy alpha male that likes to be in control.

"What do you want, then?"
"I want you to let go. I want you to submit. I want to make you lose your mind. I want you do be so far gone that the only word left in your vocabulary is my name."

Now there are some things that take place right around the 70% mark and after that i found to be a little irritating. Tristan and Danika's behavior both gets a little juvenile and extreme at times. There were misunderstandings, and lack of communication. However, none of it was enough to take away from the story for me.

Of course, Tristan being the stubborn man that he is, there were times where he royally fucked things up. But he does recognize his mistakes, and pursues Danika with a passion.

"I know what you taste like, I know how it feels to have you come against my tongue. What it feels like to have you clench around my cock while you lose your fucking mind. And you, you've tasted me. I've shoved my cock so deep down your throat I felt your tonsils, Danika. Are we going to forget all of that?"

I really enjoyed both of these characters. Danika was quirky, funny, and extremely endearing. Tristan was just swoonworthy and sexy and just AH *dreamy sigh*

"But, sweetheart, listen carefully, when I say that I don't need anybody but you, what I mean is that I never have. I need you I've never needed anyone or anything the way I need you. I need you in a way that would break me if I lost you. Being with you makes every part of my life better. Every second I get with you is the best second of my life. I'm not good at expressing myself, not like you are, but I treasure this thing between us. Don't think I don't."

The ending gives us a HFN, but...and this is a major but...there is an event that takes place at the end which took me by complete and utter devastating surprise.

Ahhhh! That ending!!! Why? Why?!

Bumping my rating up to 4.5 after still thinking about this book 2 days later.

Saw some good reviews for this one here and decided to give it a go. Was not disappointed. I really enjoyed it. As one reviewer said, it flowed. Tristan Vega, very nice indeed. Tough Rock Star. Danika, bit messed up by her past – They are friends but can they stay just friends. Don’t think so, their attraction is too hard to resist. Good solid story. Look forward to reading more about this couple.

The "just friends" thing has Tristan needing to take many showers...

4.5 super hot, rollicking stars!

Considering how I disliked R.K. Lilley's Up in the Series, I wasn't expecting much of anything going into this book. But color me surprised, I actually ended up loving it.

Yes, it was angsty, both the MCs annoyed at me at some point, some of the drama were a bit juvenile, and yet, I really enjoyed the whole thing. To me this has an entirely different feel than Up in the Air series and I find Danika and Tristan's story more relatable, more gritty and more raw than Up in the Air. In other, I was totally engrossed and invested in their story.

Tristan

Tristan was a super-hot, tattooed, bad boy, club promoter/rock star with a wicked sense of humor. I loved his sense of humor especially when he was with Danika. But beneath all that was a troubled young man. I felt that in this book, we barely scratched the surface of who Tristan truly is. And as we have seen from Grounded, he definitely went to hell and back.

I loved the fact that he was flawed. I felt it added to the complexity of his character. I mean, he did some things that were just terrible. TERRIBLE. And he hurt Danika real bad. But the readers also get to see his vulnerable side especially when it comes to his relationship with Danika and his family.

Danika

Danika hasn't had an easy life. She had a shitty childhood and because of this, she has some self-esteem issues, not to mention she seemed to be attracted to guys who are totally wrong for her. When she met Tristan, she can't deny her attraction to him but she knows he could be very bad for her. She knows it but she can't seem to help herself anyway.

Their Relationship

At the onset, Tristan was attracted to Danika and vice versa. I was glad this wasn't some case of insta-lust or inta-love. Yes, the attraction was there but they didn't immediately act on it, which is probably why I liked this book in the first place. See, Tristan doesn't do relationships. He's content with casual hook-ups. On the other hand, Danika doesn't do hook-ups or anything casual. She's a relationship kind of girl. See the dilemma there?

“I know. Just too old to be dating eighteen-year olds, or even twenty-one year olds. Frankly, though, I’m bad with women my own age, too, when it comes to relationships, which is why I don’t do them.”

I couldn’t help it. I had to ask. “So what do you do?”

“Hookups. Brief, casual hookups. How about you?”

I shook my head, pursing my lips at him. I couldn’t quite believe that we had jumped to this already. He was a man to be careful of, to be sure. “I do relationships. No exceptions. Never had a casual hookup in my life.”

He sighed, measuring some flour into the mixing bowl. “Well, I guess that makes things less complicated. We’ll be friends, then.”

Easier said than done. They fought their attraction to each other, ignored their chemistry, all for the sake of their friendship. They even made a "Friends Don't List" to protect themselves from each other. Yeah, like that would work.

To make the long story short, the Friends Don't List was an epic failure. Of course, they just had to get to together. As a reader, I was happy when they finally got together. I mean, it was inevitable but this is when bad things really started to happen. Bad, bad things.

Halfway through, I was crying ugly tears, I was mad at Tristan, I wanted to strangle Dean and throw my Kindle across the room at the same time. OTT, I know but this book had seriously put me through the ringer. And just when I thought, all the drama is finally over, the rug got pulled under my feet. Something bad happened to Tristan's family member, which was really, really sad and really, really made me cry. I wasn't expecting that, which made it all the more sad.

Anyway, I can't wait for the next book. There wasn't really any cliffhanger here. The book did end with Danika and Tristan together. But for those of you who have read Grounded, you know some very bad things are in store for these two. So yeah, can't wait for more angst the second time around.

Before I forget. I know you're all dying to know. Well, this book...

Peace out!

OKAY! I have been waiting on this book since forever it seems... and I'm happy to report that the wait was so worth it. I give it 4.5 stars but I bumped it up for rating purposes. Bad Things tells the story of how Danika and Tristan, who we are introduced to in the Up In The Air Trilogy, met and proceeded to fall in love.

First off this shit is H-O-T!!!!! Like change your panties multiple times kind of hot. It takes them awhile to get to that part of it but once they do...

"I don't want this to be calculated for you... I want you to let go. I want you to submit. I want to make you lose your mind. I want you to be so far gone that the only word left in your vocabulary is my name."

"I know what you taste like..."

"I'm going to fuck you on the hood of this car, in the pouring rain. And. You. Are. Not. Going. To. Forget. It."

There is absolutely no doubt that these two are in love and well before either one of them is willing to admit it - we know it! They are comfortable with and insanely attracted to each other from day 1. They quickly become one of the CRAZIEST couples ever... in life! They are both ridiculously jealous, possessive, they are fearful of each others feelings and their own. They fight and say crappy ass shit to each other and they both have had a shit start in life to overcome. Through it all though you will never doubt that these two are so very much in love and even though they may be bad for each other at times you can't help but to route for them.

We get to see Tristan trying to make a name for himself and Danika trying to figure out her purpose in life. We by no means get a resolution to any of that in this first book but we definitely get a good foundation for where they end up in the Up In The Air Trilogy. Mr. Beautiful himself makes a few appearances as well. *Swoon* Just like in the Up In The Air Trilogy the supporting characters were also dynamic and easy to get invested in as well.

This review may be just a tad bit biased because I have a total lady boner for R.K. Lilley... but I promise you it doesn't matter if I do kiss the ground that an author walks on, if it wasn't good I would keep it real with you. I cannot wait for the next book in this series especially because of where and how we find this couple in the Up In The Air trilogy - I'm a little nervous as to what this next book will bring. I truly hope though that they get their HEA!!! Be prepared to swoon, throw things, laugh, cry, and cream reading this one folks!!!!

Well I am going to go on the limb here and say this is MY FAVORITE of all R.K. Lilley's series. Even though seeing some of the characters from Up In the Air series made me sequel like a true fan girl this book still blew my socks off.

Sorry Mr. James Cavendish and your mind blowing sex and raunchy behavior, Sorry! but Tristan is the sh**!!! *ducks to avoid rotten tomatoes from Cavendish lovers* Hey just think! He's ALL yours. I'm going to keep this hottie and hiss MAGIC hands aaaaaaaaall to myself... however, I'll be nice and will approve conjugal visits... I have a FABULOUS secretary to process them.

Anywhoooo... I loved Tristan & Danika chemistry, I loved how they fell into each other. I loved how their "friendship" grew. Both made big mistakes in denying themselves how awesome they are together. But once they finally got on the same page everything seems to have spiraled and that scared me! (because I know something happens to Even with all that they NEED each other... they are hot to the point of combustible but they need each other so bad to heal their wounds. I loved it! I loved the drama and emotional level of their relationship! Tristan the ultimate protector but as all protector are they need that role because of their messed up pasts. It is the way to maintain control of their lives (in my opinion).

“Something inside of me, in the way I'd been shaped, made it so hard to change the way my mind worked, and the way it worked was twisted. I felt so much shame when things were out of control, and that control had always included sex.
For the first time in my life, I trusted someone enough to take that control from me, I gave him that control willingly, and that trust healed something raw and aching deep inside of me.”

Those of you waiting to read it till book 2 comes out it's not really necessary... The book has an emotional ending BUT it is not a Clif-Hanger type of ending. Please read it... it's AWESOME!

Rating as of today: 3.5 stars.
I'm definitely a different reader today than I was when I originally read this 7 years ago .
I had forgotten how toxic Danika and Tristan's relationship is.
I'm going to leave my original star rating but if I was reading it for the first time today it would be 3.5 stars.

Bad things were going to happen if we spent too much time around each other.

Danika and Tristan meet through a mutual friend. From the moment they met the sexual tension was high. When these two hook up it's off the charts. Trust issues hinders their relationship around every corner.
"I see now that I didn't know a thing about love before I met you. When it's right, like it is with us, it doesn't make your life harder, it makes your life better, even when it's hard." -Tristan

Thankfully Bad Things doesn't end with a cliffhanger. Looking forward to continuing with Tristan and Danika in the next two books.

R.K Lilley has wOwed me again!!

I really didn't think it was possible for any book to come close to James Cavendish but this book has.

Danika works at her friends house as a nanny for the past 2years and meets Tristan through her husband. Danika has been through some pretty sad things in her past.

Danika:

Tristan:

They quickly become friends partying it up. They are both very attracted to each other and its obvious they want each other.

The problem is- Tristan doesn't DO relationships

Danika doesn't DO 'casual' flings.

They agree to just be friends and make a list of things Not allowed

"1. No sex, no making out, no kissing."
2. No getting jealous or complaining about who the other one is dating or hooking up with.
3.We can hang out whenever we want, but we won’t call it a date, even if we’re doing date- like things
4. No nagging.
5. Always remember that we like each other too much to sleep together, and that sleeping
together will ruin EVERYTHING.
6. If the words ‘I love you’ are ever mentioned, it will be assumed that it is in a friendship type context
7. No talking dirty, or talking about dates with your vibrator.

Their friendship is tested time and time again to a point that its undeniable that they are more.

Once they cross that boarder of friendship there is no going back.

"There was no question—I’d never been so in love. In fact, the way I felt around Tristan made me question if I’d ever even been in love before at all. Loving him was like that; so out of control that it was hard to imagine there could be anything to compare."

They are sooo good together that its actually toxic and their love story quickly turns into a train wreck of emotions.

". I hated that you had a word for this . A word made cheap by using it on other men, and
"then throwing it in my face, like that should convince me to say it back. I don’t have a word for this, because I’ve never felt this before. But I do love you. I just wish there was a way to explain to you that love is just the start of it, because it’s turned into so much more for me.”

Sometimes loving someone makes you crazy, and not in the good kind of way...

But is love enough to keep them together or will it blow up in their faces?

I sure would love to find out in the next book :D

I have been waiting what feels like a lifetime for this book, we were introduced to them in the up in the air series with Mr James Cavendish and Bianca. Danika's got a limp and they are hostile towards each other I was very intrigued to what there story was and how is it going to end!! I am happy to say this one did NOT disappoint I was captivated by there story from page one!! But it's one hell of a roller-coaster, this is not a simple boy meets girl and falls in love story! It kept me on my toes throughout...
I Cried, Laughed, Cringed, and fell in love with this pair hook line and sinker!

So we go back to the beginning how they met!! and before James and Bianca met this is a story all of there own.

Danika is a live in Nanny, it's her job and I would say her family she lives, works, goes to school, walks the dogs, gets the kids up, cooks, cleans etc. That is her life so when Jerry brings in Tristan to there home to stay for a week she's not expecting that he makes a impression on her, you see Jerry likes to bring in musicians into there home who need help - Danika thinks unemployed and judges Tristan.

I saw at a glance that the stranger was young, sexy as hell, and straight-up Trouble with a capital T.

so when she makes friends with him he in turn teaches her how to live for the now.

Tristan is Dominant, strong, possessive, addictive and he also can cook, mouth watering cooking from ingredients not from packets...

 photo chocolatechipcookiesgif_zps56bfc552.gif

Which is his first step to making friends with Danika, he shows her there's more to him.

He goes on to teaching her how to party and let her hair down.

 photo dancinggif2_zps565fe042.gif

with that comes the drinking!!!

 photo tequilashots2_zpsac121c9c.jpg

 photo drinkinggif_zps64f9b3d7.gif

Slowly but surely they become inseparable, they have chemistry and HEAT that that is scorching HOT!!! but he doesn't do relationships and she doesn't do hook-ups so they become friends with that comes a list of what they can and can't do and what it balls down to is above all they don't have SEX together as it'll ruin EVERYTHING!!
Which is difficult to achieve and they give in EVENTUALLY.

"Tell me not to kiss you," he said, when his lips were a breath away from mine. "Don't kiss me," I told him, my voice a breathless rasp. "Mean it," he said, crowding me into the corner of the pool. He tilted my chin up with his finger. "I can't," I gasped.

"I'm going to fuck you hard on the hood of this car, in the pouring rain. And. You. Are. Not. Going. To. Forget. It."

Nothing sucked worse than having feelings for someone who just may have been your best friend. Especially when that someone clearly didn’t return those feelings.

Two words…HOT DAMN! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with more intense sexual chemistry between the two main characters. I could actually feel the heat coming off of these two. As an added bonus we’re treated to an actual story, too.

Danika was like a breath of fresh air. A breath of fresh air that I didn’t get to fuck.

Danika doesn’t do casual hookups and Tristan never does relationships. The attraction between them is immediate but so is the mutual respect and the fact that they actually really like one another. What are two smokin’ hot people who are wildly attracted to one another but don’t see eye to eye on relationships to do? They immediately agree to keep things just friends only. They even draw up a cute little list of the do’s and don’ts of their relationship in order to make sure things stay nice and friend-like:

1. No sex, no making out, no kissing.
2. No getting jealous or complaining about who the other one is dating or hooking up with.
3. We can hang out whenever we want, but we won’t call it a date, even if we’re doing date- like things
4. No nagging.
5. Always remember that we like each other too much to sleep together, and that sleeping
together will ruin EVERYTHING.
6. If the words ‘I love you’ are ever mentioned, it will be assumed that it is in a friendship type context
7. No talking dirty, or talking about dates with your vibrator.

Seems simple enough. Except it’s not. The more time they spend together, the more items on the list get thrown out the window.

”I want you so badly that I’d do just about anything to have you,” he said roughly. “The only thing I won’t do, though, is risk losing you. Can you promise me that if we do this, I won’t lose you?”
I didn’t hesitate, didn’t think over the question as I should have. I wanted him, and I wanted him now. “I promise.”

I loved this book and not just for the sexy stuff. Both characters were written so well and I felt like I knew them after the story ended. And there was an actual story! I like smut as much as the next gal but I’m really tired of reading sex scene after sex scene with nothing else to go along with it. I get bored, start braiding my hair and think about how I’m not doing enough for that whole world peace deal and the story’s lost to me. Bad Things absolutely captured my attention the entire time and by the end I’d laughed, cried and felt a little sick with worry about what’s in store for these two in the future. What I do know for certain is that I can’t freaking WAIT to find out!

5 "I feel pretty" Stars

I was going to rate this a 4, but then I realized that a) I couldn't put it down, b) I read it in one sitting, and c) I am fucking emotionally exhausted now.

AKA: A damn good read.

I might be hit by tomatoes by rabid Jamie McGuire fans by saying this, but it actually reminded me of Beautiful Disaster, "formula-wise."

Let me explain...

And, oh yeah, they have a ridiculously obsessive, completely unhealthy, ass backwards relationship based on total love addiction and textbook codependency.

And. I. Fucking. LOVE. It.

Don't hate, Morality Police. Right or wrong, it made me feel like a giggly teenager all over again, but without the heaving ugly snot breakup crying.

Bring on #2!

5 STEAMY, SEXY, WET, STARS!!!

You fucking did it again Ms. Lilley! I’ll tell you, I LOVED the Up In the Air Series and I loved BAD THINGS!!!

I don’t really have to explain this story, I mean, there’s no reason why I should. The reason why you should pick up this read and well read it because it’s just FUCKING GOOD!!!

BUT if you need to know, there’s Danika, the beautiful and controlled Heroine. Who is absolutely adorable, sexy and just all around awesome. Then there’s Mr. Slutty McSlutFace Tristan, who is hot, sexy, fuckable and yeah a BIG MAN WHORE.

Watching him like that on stage was like seeing the puzzle pieces all shifting into place. He was perfect up there, and it wasn’t any one thing that made him that way. It was everything about him.

This is all for the makings of an impressive read?

WHY YES!

So, the storyline is about one thing I love to read….. BEST FRIENDS FALLING IN LOVE!!! And let’s all SIGH right now because we know we love it!

Danika understands what Tristan is and she can’t just have casual sex (it’s just not in her nature) but the attraction between Tristan, well it’s just undeniable. Over time, after hanging out, drinking and almost passionate mishaps, they both agree to try friends with benefits relationship.

UH OH… we all know what that means.

We necked like teenagers in the middle of a bar for God only knows how long. It was insane, and tacky, and wonderful.

I told you that I needed you. But now I need you to survive. Forever. I won’t live through this without you, and I’m selfish for telling you that, but it’s the truth.

Overall, this was an awesome read. I could have read it in one sitting but I kept on getting distracted by my family. I kind of want to punch myself in the gut for not reading this sooner. Ms. Lilley just knows how to write some good shit. I was engaged, I was entertained and let be put the tiny disclaimer there… even after you did that to me! If you already read it, you know what I mean and geez, I had a heart attack, BUT in the end I still love you Ms. Lilley I do.

I know this wasn’t really a review, it’s me basically pasting some steamy images, but what’s not to like?

BUY.BAD.THINGS and READ.IT. You will wet your panties and have a full grin while doing so.

I’m going to fuck you hard on the hood of this car, in the pouring rain. And.You. Are. Not. Going. To. Forget. It.

It wasn’t a light kiss. It wasn’t a romantic kiss. It wasn’t innocent, or causal, or appropriate for public. It was a down and dirty, suck at my mouth kind of kiss, demanding hungry and perfect.

One final note… did I get tingly inside when I realized Danika is half Asian, maybe, but what?! It’s the little things I look for in a read and THANK YOU for that!

He tipped my chin up with a finger, then slanted his mouth over mine. Right in the middle of Costco. I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world.

Oh my shit...

What an aggravating and agonizing book...

Now, I love me some angsty shit, but here, (mind all the push and pull 'we're just friends and i don't want to ruin that with sex' crap, they still have sex but they are fighting with labels) and now, I'm getting to the point-I fucking can't stand STUPIDITY!!!

I honestly have zero tolerance for human stupidity, especially when all the actions based on that very same stupidity end with lines like: 'I'm sorry, I'm fucked up' or 'I didn't mean that, I'm wired that way' but he still does it anyway...

What does that even mean? 'I'm wired that way, I'm fucked up', seems to me that some lame dense excuse to act like a fuckwat asshole instead of owning your shit and man-up!

And let me tell you smth about being 'wired that way' since you have no idea what it's like to endure a bloody eruption from one's vayay every month, then suffer some heavy deep hormonal slap from PMS and what?! You have like a solid week or so to actually feel as yourself!! So, the next time I go on killing angry spree I ll fuckin say with a shrug: 'I'm just WIRED that way', asshole!!!

I'm digressing here...

Back to the story...

I mean, wtf?! Either you wanna be with the girl or you fuckin don't wanna be with her...fuckin other chicks after you have a fight with a girl you want but you are too dickwat coward to say it or act on it...well, sorry you are a piece of shit in my eyes, and i don't fucking care about you past, you either fuckin talk and communicate or just fuck the fuck off!!!!

And leave the girl alone to make a piece with herself...

Jesus, for the ever loving fuck...I have zero tolerance for blunt manwhore fuckers that are coward enough to pull of a 'broken by a past relationship' shit...even if they come clean and get their shit together in the end...

Well, fuck off, anyway...

2 stars for the heroine...even though, she pissed me off by giving him the chance in the first place...

Re-read Review March 22, 13
Just as good as the first time. Love Tristan and Danika and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. :)

Initial Review July 20, 13
"I knew that we were going to be a dangerous combination. Bad things were going to happen if we spent too much time around each other."

I have soo many emotions right now. That ending just made me a hot mess. I have so much to say, but just can't seem to get it out....

The ending has left me..

Okay I'll try. This is a spin-off from the Up In the Air series. I have been completely stoked to read this. So freaking excited. This story starts off prior to Bianca and James, even before James knew Tristan. Danika is working for Bev and Jerry. To me the coolest bosses ever. She's their nanny, but once she met Tristan she didn't do a whole lot of that, yet never got in trouble, lol. I'm just saying!! But, I'm getting ahead of myself. The day she meets Tristan she automatically senses that something about him is going to change her entire life. She was not wrong.

My Tristan

"I want you so badly that I'd do just about anything to have you. The only thing I won't do, though, is risk losing you. Can you promise me that if we do this, I won't lose you?"

Tristan doesn't do relationships. You'll find out why during the story, but instantly he and Danika both are insanely attracted to each other. But they form a fast friendship and deep connection, so much so that they realize they would rather do anything than to hurt it. Which results in Tristan believing rules need to be made so no lines are crossed that would harm their friendship.

Danika

"You have me. I'm yours, and I'm not going anywhere, not ever."

Of course like all rules, it seemed like the instant they were written they both had trouble not breaking them. As Danika says it almost made it seem like a challenge. Once one line is crossed they all begin to be and once they give into their attraction they can't seem to get enough of each other. It was so good, mmmm mmmm. But, remember Tristan doesn't do relationships so once he realizes Danika is seeing this different than what he thinks it is, everything starts to unravel. I literally could go on and on and on, about this book but, hey, I don't want to ruin it for those of you who haven't read it yet.

"Tell me not to kiss you." he said when his lips were a breath away from mine.
"Don't kiss me," I told him, my voice a breathless rasp.
"Mean it," he said, crowing me into the corner of the pool.
"I can't," I gasped.
The words had barely left my lips before he was kissing me.

I felt like my emotions went everywhere with this book. From the sexual frustration between them, to the the hot things Tristan did to Danika and the things he said to her while he was doing them, to blissful happiness, to complete utter tragedy, my emotions were on a whirlwind.

Tristan was like the best guy ever. Holy cow, I was head over heels in love with him. His restraint, confidence, protectiveness, and his complete understanding, not to mention all of those hot showers, ahaha.

"What do you do to food to make it taste this good?" I moaned.
I opened my eyes when he didn't answer me. He was staring at me with a look in his eyes that made me toes start to curl. He set down the uneaten half of his sandwich, striding out of the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" I called to him.
"I'll be back in five minutes," he called back.
I wasn't sure if I was pleased or appalled when I heard my shower turning on.

And dang, I woke up this morning hoping he was in my kitchen cooking me breakfast, sigh, what a disappointment when he wasn't. And then Danika, was so witty. I loved her sarcasm. But I agree, I think she needed to get out and have some fun with Tristan and his buddies. But towards the end, it felt like they just lost control of themselves. Don't worry, I still loved it and it's still going to be 5 stars, it just seemed like they became over possessive, over jealous and always jumped to conclusions in a dramatic form without even beginning to see the whole picture.

I love love loved Frankie and Jared!! But oh how I hate Dean. HATE HATE HATE him. This is for you Mean Dean, and I think it's only going to get worse in the next book, if that's possible...

But the ending was just so painful. OMG, I had been warned there was a cliffhanger, but I never dreamed this. It wasn't the worse cliffhanger I've ever read, it's just the way it ended. Leaving you wanting more desperately but being too depressed at the same time. If you've read it you know what I mean. I absolutely can NOT wait for the next book in this series.

Old Sonia Loved This

Back in the day, I used to love this trilogy. I remember the grovel was sooo good... book 3 is basically Tristan groveling, and, NGL, I used to love rereading his regret/growth because of all the sh!t he put Danika through.

But books 1 and 2... ugh... SO MUCH ANGST! And cheating... and angst... and owd... and angst... and more cheating... and angst... and ow fighting... and angst...

then we get family drama/death, miscarriages, accidents, scars, life-changing outcomes of it all, struggles, etc etc etc

I remember when I read this like 9/10 years ago, I was in a legit book funk/hangover after. So I had to reread it again soon after because nothing was hitting the spot...

but THAT Sonia... 2014-ish Sonia... well, she was ballsier than 2023 Sonia...

Sometimes, I MISS the old Sonia, the Sonia that could read anything (like THIS trilogy). But then, I remember that I DON'T need to read sh!t like this anymore, that there are tons of Hs that truly LOVE their h, and are FAITHFUL from beginning to end...

so yeah, I don't need the pain from reading this trilogy.

I needed Danika to stand up for herself WAY before she actually did; her life would've been a LOT different, and she wouldn't be considered a doormat.

Who knows... maybe one day I'll reread it just to feel all those emotions again... to get my angry and hurt juices flowing

Never say never...

I'd read these books way back in 2015, I think. And now I've revisited in audio. Back then over the top alphas and demure, lust riddled heroines were a thing and this couple of Tristan Vega- the lead vocalist in a Local band & Danika the hot nanny were THE hottest couple in my opinion. With passage of time and having read tons of books since, I may have outgrown my own reader immaturity.
It's STILL pretty hot, sizzling chemistry and sex at every page but the characters now seem to be missing a dimension.
That's Just MY opinion.
One look and Danika has falls into a deep spell of Tristan, a larger than life personality with mischievous twinkle in his eyes and dimples in this naughty smile

description

He lives life on his own terms, no entanglements, no relationships, just party hard. Just his proximity is enough for Danika to melt into him and say yes to his Every Demand
They party all night, drinking real hard and she lags in her duties as a nanny (still her employer doesn't fire her?!!)
Anyway he's super jealous of all her exes, even in passing reference to the point of beating them up, threatening them and holding it against Danika.
Meanwhile his past is a no-go zone, which makes Danika super insecure and jealous.
Anyway, it's still an enjoyable read/listen, read and love it like I've done all the years.

I fell hard for both Tristan and Danika immediately. They are a hot mess and a half so you can just imagine the angst. There's a huge back and forth pull with these two, and by the time I made it to the final misunderstanding/disagreement/overreaction (or whatever you want to call it), I wasn't all that upset about it. I LOVE the couple, but after a while, it's like Dudes! Just chill!

Their romance is addictive, to say the least, both to themselves and to the reader, and I will absolutely be moving on to Rock Bottom.

*****FIVE I LOVE TRISTAN & DANIKA STARS!!!*****

Simply AMAZING!!

 photo 9148542_zps4c55cb53.gif

I have been so intrigued by Tristan and Danika ever since they were introduced in the "Up In The Air" series.
I knew theirs was a story that was going to be filled with unbelievable passion and despair.

Well this book DID NOT disappoint me one bit!
I loved ever freaking second of reading this one.

This is the beginning of Tristan and Danika's crazy and passionate love affair.
From the very moment they meet, the chemistry is off the charts HOT!!

I knew that we were going to be a dangerous combination. Bad things were going to happen if we spent too much time around each other>"

 photo imagejpg1_zps1feeaa3c.jpg

Danika aka "Boo", is a live in nanny/house keeper/dog walker for Bev & Jerry. Two awesome people that rescued her from her god awful mother!!
Danika's mother is a drug addict who did very little to provide her and her sister with a good life growing up.
Tristan is the lead singer of a band, a club promoter, and a magician.
He's friends with Jerry, who has invited him to come stay at his house until his apartment is ready to be moved into.

Danika and Tristan become fast friends but at the same time they are majorly attracted to each other.
They try to keep things strictly platonic but when two people spend every waking minute together and even share a bed, things are bound to cross the line!!

HOLY SMOKES did they ever cross the line!!
I'm talking THREE back to back FRIGGIN chapters of SEX, SEX, oh and did I mention, SEX????? This was just one night they spend having sex!! ONE NIGHT OF SEX WAS THREE CHAPTERS LONG!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA
Tristan has the libido of, oh, I don't know....SUPERMAN??
Not that I was ever complaining!!
It was never too much for me! I quite enjoyed every minute of it.

That scene when Danika was using her B.O.B. on herself while Tristan was sleeping right next to her was HOT AS HELL!!!!

Danika and Tristan's relationship is very sexually charged, and definitely an addiction for the both of them.
Danika tends to have relationships with guys that are all wrong for her in hopes of finding the love she never had growing up.
She fights her feelings for Tristan but eventually gives in and tells him how she feels.

I was so infatuated that I feel asleep next to him, and still dreamed of him, as though being apart, even in sleep, just wasn't an option for my lovesick brain.

But Tristan doesn't believe in love.
He's been hurt before and he's seen what love has done to his mother.
This causes some tension between the two, plus the fact that Tristan has a very bad temper and extremely jealous nature when it comes to Danika. He lands in some hot water and this scares Danika.

In the end something will happen to bring the two together.

"I don't have a word for this, because I've never felt this before. But I do love you. I just wish there was a way to explain to you that love is just the start of it, because it's turned into so much more for me."

I know these two have a love that is bordering on obsession for one another, but I SO am rooting for these two!!!
I believe they are good for each other and both have been through such horrible childhoods, they deserve to find true happiness with one another.

I'm scared for what is awaiting me in book two but am so happy that all books are out so I don't have to suffer for too long!!!
