The Wolf's Mate #7

Villain and the Geek

Rate this book
Swapped for his brother as the freshly claimed mate of the ruthless alpha Constantine, nerdy bookworm Devon is in way over his head. Constantine is an ice storm in human--and beast--form, and Devon has only ever had book boyfriends. Yet every time he's sure he's drowning, he finds himself safe in Constantine's strong embrace.

But Constantine is certain it's dangerous to believe their bond means anything other than a peace treaty between the Grayridge and Stone Hollow wolves. Not just to his pack, but to the innocent, vulnerable omega himself. Devon wants--needs--Constantine to love him, but love is not something a beast like him is capable of.

Then again, neither is fear.

And for the first time in his life, Constantine is afraid.

Author's Note: This is the seventh serial installment of The Wolf's Mate series, and part two of Villain and the Geek, which is Devon and Constantine's story. Prepare for one irresistibly redeemable (?) villain, a lovable nerd who's convinced he's a defective omega, intrusive family members, and omegaverse shenanigans.

As a newly mated pair, you’d think human omega Devon and (supposedly villainous) alpha werewolf Constantine would be in mated couple bliss—but you’d be wrong.

Instead, Devon wakes fresh from their first night together, all alone and damn salty about it. Insecurities rattle him and he’s in a bit of a panic about what to do next, isolated in an “enemy” pack, away from his twin bro and friends.

To make matters worse, his first heat kicks in, jump-starting his true omega-nature in very life-changing ways—and giving Constantine the reality check he needs to realise he could seriously lose Devon, if he doesn’t start lowering his emotional walls to let the little geeky omega in truly and completely.

Earning trust is the true name of the game in this instalment, as Devon and Constantine slowly but surely open up to one another, in emotionally and physically vulnerable ways, hopefully laying the groundwork to an ideal (and eventually loving) partnership between the big-bad-alpha and his adorable mate.

I’ve enjoyed watching Devon go through a plethora of big changes, and I’m liking the tentative bond he’s forged with Constantine by the end of this story. Undoubtedly, these two still have a long way to go before things are officially in HEA-land, but they’re certainly further on track now than ever before, which is promising.

For some reason I assumed this was the finale story, so I was a bit blindsided by the abrupt ending and the definite cliffhanger, but I won’t complain, because I so enjoy this overall series and I will happily keep reading new instalments for as long as Davis wants to churn them out.

These are so short but they're just a fun time. This is the second instalment of Devon and Constantine's story, and I found it a lot better than the first. There's some great relationship development as they open up more to each other. This is also the penultimate book, not sure if that means the next book is the final for Devon and Constantine's romance of final book overall in the series. Either way I'm looking forward to it when it releases.

I love the pacing and overall tone of Devon and Constantine's relationship. Due to their complicated circumstances, their relationship and dynamic moves more deliberately. This pacing helps to develop and grow their shared feelings while allowing Constantine to show his affection and care for Devon.

Overall I loved this entry that deepens the sizzling chemistry and connection between Devon and Constantine. For their final entry, I want Constantine to show Devon how much he cares and loves him. Devon is precious and deserves all the love from his mate and for Constantine to finally open his heart.

UGH so good. I liked this one wayyyyyy more than the last one. I just wish this author would write faster. Or at least write longer books. But anyway, I need the next one now. Please and thanks. Love you!!

Poor poor Devon. I really needed more groveling, tbh. Also, this spin-off feels less fleshed out??? Like the side characters don't have as much personality or screen time and I kinda miss that. And it is more sad than funny, which is a bummer, but I'm still really enjoying it. I'm looking forward to reading the the last book!
UGH this is the problem with binge-reading when a series isn't finished *cries*.

Ahh. I'm equal parts relieved and pissed!!
Because it ended...but it's not over. That is, relieved that it's not over but pissed because it ended....Now I just have to wait for number 8. And Devon totally deserves a HEA.

I loved how in Brad's pov, he constantly made digs at romance cliches like "letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding" and "searing kisses"...like that, but Devon was all the cliches, ready and willing.

If you haven't read it and are in need of a 'good feelings' book series...easy and fun ..this is it! But also know that this isn't the ending, the series needs the final installment. Otherwise, you'll be perched precariously on the edge of not knowing. Which kinda sucks --but not as much if you know that going in.
So, you're welcome.

Я думала, що це остання книжка в цій серії, але там ще одна планується, і як тепер не померти від цікавості? І гаразд якщо б нормально завершили, але ж ні, там драма була.

I hate how this isn't a full book, I hate cliffhangers especially from this series, it's torturous.

Very, very cute and lighthearted!

Not as funny and iconic as Brad's story arc, but these books and the author's writing are ridiculously enjoyable and once again, I devoured this installment. Devon and Costantine's romance is great: a smidge of push and pull, a smidge of rejected mate trope (now that's my jammmm), a fair bit of steam, and a lot of heart. Devon's a lovely protagonist, and a highly relatable one at that, and Costantine, despite me wanting to hit him his head with a blunt object or two, is delicious. I'm still expecting a good ol' grovel though.
I can't believe the next one will be the last though! I'm not ready to say goodbye to this world.

Devon es 👼🌸☀️😳🎀✨️ y Constantine es tan 👹😑🥀🌙🗿💬 que no lo hace merecedor de nuestro omega. Igual mejoró un poco pero ya quiero ver su redención completaaa

The big bad wolf and his geeky mate are getting a little closer, though Constantine still plays his cards very close to his chest and struggles to trust.

Looks like the next one might be the last one in this series. Cannot wait!

That ending and the fact that the next one doesn't have a release date yet? Ahhhhh!

These are short, emotional, smutty, and addicting books. I devoured the first series near the end of the year last year and was thrilled to see that this one was coming out so soon after I finished book 1 in the sequel series. I want more! I want to get some answers and I want to see Constantine spoil the hell out of Devon because he deserves that.

I'm not going to lie, I love the whole emotional aspect of this book. It's like a punch to the heart to see how Constantine treats Devon, knowing it's going to bite him in the ass.

I need more and I'm sad the next book is supposedly the final instalment in their story.

Happy reading!

I read this as it was released on the authors Patreon. I feel like the story took so long in the first part of their story that when they finally make progress I wasn't invested anymore 🤷‍♀️.

Constantine and Devon's relationship goes from rocky to suck @ss in a heartbeat. Constantine is acting like a douche and Devon has decided he's not going to tolerate it anymore.

Again, good writing, fast paced, no typos. But it seemed like book 6 and 7 could have easily been combined into a single book. And again, this ended on a cliffhanger. Which I HATE because the next book isn't coming out for MONTHS.
BOOOO !!!! HISSSSS !!!!!!

Damn it, I was sure this one was the last book but apperently not, there will be one more after this. All the things from first Villian and the Geek book applies here. Bland MCs, zero chemistry, it's not funny like the previous installments. Even the supposed cliffhanger at the end of the book was not really a cliffhanger. Unfortunately this spinoff series so not the same as the original.

I wasn’t a fan of the resolution or of the dialogue between the MCs. It’s the penultimate book in the series and probably my least favourite.

I enjoyed seeing Devon and Constantine get to know each other more and have some cute couple moments. I do wish this one had something for the characters to fight against, but it's mostly just drama.

BACK WITH MY ISEKAI ABO SHIFTER BOIS. I love this series. I love that it’s queer romance by a queer author. And I love that it’s the most bananas concept and still manages to make me a lil emosh. I adore you L.C. Davis.

We’re back with Constantine and Devon and tensions are still high, they’re not on great footing thanks to Con getting The Big Scary when it comes to feeling emotions about his mate. “Are these effing feelings?? Welp. Gotta blast!”. Same, dude. Same same same.

But I think I actually love these dummies even more than Raul and Brad?? And I loved them a lot a lot so you know this is third base serious. Like Con and Devon are just angstier and a little messier and a little more serious. It’s got a real historical/gothic romance vibe going on and the tonal shift from Brad’s serial is a great shift so the twins’ stories don’t feel so similar. And Davis writes with such dry wit (which I love) so the angstier bits are broken up with Devon saying things in his head like this one which made me howl with laughter:

“Fuck him. Even if he is fluffy.”

We’ve got one more installment left for Devon and Con since they finally have come to a tentative truce and are (very carefully) exploring the big feelings with each other. I don’t want this world to end though so if you could write about all the side character, LC, that’d be great! I thx you’re amazing bye.
