Scarlett-
When going to war, there are three very simple rules one must abide by.
1. Know thy enemy.
2. Be prepared to sacrifice.
3. Always wear good shoes.
After all, revenge is a dish best served in stilettos.
I’ve got an eye for it, and nothing’s going to stand in my way.
Not even Rory ‘The Saint’ Brodrick.
He’s a fool if he thinks he can change me. By the time I’m through with him, I’ll make his mafia look like child’s play.
Cross me, Mr. Brodrick?
You better cross your heart and hope to die.

Rory-
I’m a fighter. A hustler. A mobster.
I’ve seen a few things in my day.
But I’ve never encountered anything like her.
She's a beauty with a beast of a heart. The poison apple I just can't resist. And in her trail she leaves a wake of men crawling on their knees.
What she doesn’t know is that I like my women wild.
It only makes it that much more fun to tame them.

***Upgraded to 4 Stars...***

I think I went into my original read of this with expectations that were WAY too high. I wanted another Ghost. But there is only one of those. Regardless, I really enjoyed this more on my last couple re-reads and so this officially deserves an upgrade.

Original Review

Yeah... I just didn't love it.

But considering I've 5-starred every other book in this series, it's only natural there would have to be one I didn't care for as much. No biggie!

Looking forward to the next one.

I have loved every one of the books in A. Zavarelli's 'Boston Underworld' series and 'Saint' was no exception. This book was great! I can't get enough of these Irish guys!

'Saint' is the story of Rory and Scarlett. If you're like me, you probably only had a vague recollection of who these two were at the beginning of the book. If that's the case, don't sweat it. A. Zavarelli did a good job of re-orienting readers to the characters and how they tied into the story.

Scarlett is not your ordinary heroine. I was equally terrified and impressed by her. She was a total badass! She is out for revenge and she is a force to be reckoned with. If you're expecting a submissive, mild-mannered female leading lady, you're in for a big shock with Scarlett!

Rory is just an all-around nice guy. He's tough and sexy, but he has this kind of laid-back personality that draws you in. He was so patient and protective of Scarlett that I couldn't help but love him. He was swoon-worthy.

As Scarlett's past is revealed, it becomes clear why she now preys upon wealthy, entitled men. She wasn't always the predator that she is now. One night years ago left her forever changed when she was brutally gang-raped. Set up by her own boyfriend, used by him and his friends, and then left for dead, she has now dedicated her life to seeking vengeance.

Rory wants nothing more than to claim Scarlett for his own. He is infatuated with the beautiful man-eater, but refuses to let her use him and then write him off as just another guy that wants her only for sex. He is persistent and won't give up until he can call her his.

No matter how hard Scarlett tries to push him away, she can't shake Rory Brodrick. When he continues to unwittingly botch her plans, she decides to use him as a means to an end. After all, he just won't go away.

When Scarlett's past comes back to haunt her, she finds herself relying on Rory more than she had ever anticipated. Time and time again, he comes to her rescue. He's made it his number one priority to save Scarlett from herself, even if she doesn't realize that she needs saving.

This was a great story from beginning to end. Scarlett and Rory did not follow the typical relationship trajectory, and that kept it interesting. It was nice to read a book with a tough as nails heroine and a hero that can respect that. Although this wasn't my personal favorite book in the series, it was great. In fact, every book in this series has been wonderful. I highly recommend this series.

The way I binged this series in January, but it takes me this whole year to post all my reviews for this series. The clownery. 🤡
4 down, 2 more to go. 😂

PLOT

Scarlett (h) used to come from a wealthy family. Her mother set her up with Alexander some other rich guy. One day to get initiated into their sororities, Alex and his group of friends drug Scarlett and gang raped her and left her to die behind a dumpster. Now, some years later, Scarlett is on a revenge mission where she makes every guy, who has violated her in the past, pay. In that aspect this book reminded me of Mindf*ck series by S.T. Abby. Scarlett knows that she can't execute all the guys on her own and goes to Rory (H) for help, with the intention to manipulate him.

If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, then I must be headed straight for heaven.

YES, NO, MAYBE, WHATEVER

This book started out interesting, because for once Scarlett is an anti-heroine and I feel like we need more anti-heroines in romance novels. Don't we love it when the heroine meets the Hero for the first time and stabs him? The violence? The anger? What a beautiful sight <3

As the story progressed it was harder to keep liking Scarlett. There is like a fine line between being a badass bitch and just being a plain ass bitch. Scarlett for the first half was always acting standoff-ish that at times I was so frustrated with her. Her walls are so high, you need to be a professional climber to mount those walls. I love ice queens, but after a certain point I'm getting tired if there is like no development at all.
I don't have feelings for people or objects or places or sentimental longing for old memories. While most people have an emotional capacity that rises and falls in relation to the object or person, I was not plagued with such a hindrance.

I love revenge storylines, because it's the best feeling to see all these rapists getting what they deserve. I'm really spoiled when it comes to revenge stories, because of my girl miss Lana Myers (Mindf*ck series). Therefore it's not fair to compare the characters together, but unfortunately I can't help it. For that reason, I was lowkey disappointed when Scarlett planned her revenge for so long, but she doesn't kill any of these guys. Alexander, the main villain, who has violated Scarlett so many times over the year was just killed off screen by some random FBI agent and I was ??

So I got several on screen scnes of Alex raping Scarlett and other women, abusing them and killing them, but I just hear of his death in the papers, where he had an "accident" and drowned... Oh HELL NO. HELL TO FUCKING NO. The deaths of the other guys were lame too... as I said i'm pretty spoiled, I want to see them suffer, dicks cut off and skin peeled off slowly, so excuse me if I feel disappointed when these rapists get off too easily.
He really is a Saint. And I really am the Devil. But together, we're a match made in heaven.

Rory was okay. Even though he is in the mafia, deep down he has a soft heart. In a group he is the jokester and charming one. From all the guys in this series, Rory is probably the guy that I would feel most comfortable to introduce to my parents. I have the same problem with Rory that I had with Lachlan. He just doesn't have enough personality. Scarlett was sucking all the personality out of this book and didn't leave anything for Rory. The characters in this series either are one-dimensional or have no personality at all.

Rory and Scarlett had some cute moments together and when Scarlett is jealous and goes all psycho on the other woman. Love that for him.
Once my hair is braided and I’ve got makeup on, Rory walks up behind me and snaps a picture of us with his phone.
“Did you just take a selfie with me?” I ask, horrified.
“I did.” He smirks. “Get used to it, Satan. I want lots of pretty pictures of you on my phone.”

Overall not the worse book in the series, but also not the best. 🤷🏽‍♀️

****4 STARS****

A. Zavarelli has done it yet again. Saint (Boston Underground #4) was EVERYTHING! I mean seriously, this chick writes dark romance books like nobodies business. I just FLOVE it!

Everybody needs that one friend who is down for whatever and is crazy as fuck. Everybody needs that one friend like Scarlett.

We met Scarlett in book one. She was one of Mack’s friends who apparently was a whore and on the streets working every night. But we find out in book three that not only is Scarlett not a whore, she robs men who are out looking for whores.

I knew I like Scarlett when she showed up at Mack’s fight in Crow. That’s when I fight got a glimpse of what a ride or die chick she was.

Scarlett's life has not been easy, she's been through a lot of shit. Her history has made her into what some might say a cold hearted bitch. That's what some might say, I say she gangster as fuck and her and I would get along very well.

Now, Rory! I just couldn't get enough of him! Rory wanted nothing more but to make Scarlett his. One thing he didn't realize was how crazy she was and what it would take get Scarlett to stay.

Scarlett's inner demons haunted her so much that the notion of someone caring for her was not an option.
Rory would get bored with me too, no matter what he tells himself. It's only the chase that thrills him. And if I wasn't fucking him over right now, he'd be fucking me over in only a few short months. No question about it.

Scarlett couldn't be more wrong about Rory. Rory is amaz-balls and she doesn't even know it. It's a good thing over time she realizes that he's not going anyway and care for her in way nobody else ever has... completely for who she is.

I am in love with Rory! He's my new book boyfriend! And my new book boyfriend doesn't tolerate anyone disrespecting any woman he knows.
"This is how it's like," I tell him. "Ye came into out establishment. And ye touched one of our women without her permission. And that stripper? She's also a mother. A damn good one at that. She works her arse off to put food on the table, believe it or not. It's not for the love of your cock."

Did I mention I love Rory? Yassss... a man who stands up for a stripper is always winner in my book. I hate people who talk down on strippers and escorts, it drives me absolutely mad. But this is not what made me fall in love with Rory, no that happened the first time he murdered someone for Scarlett.
I reach down and yank the knife from Scarlett's thigh and I plunge it into his fucking throat, slashing through the artery.

Yassssssssssssss! That's what I'm talking about! That is a panty dropping moment. I might even drop to knees first. :)

I know that sounds fucked up, but a man who is willing to murder for me is the sexiest thing ever. But don't count Scarlett out because she's just as willing to kill for Rory's ass too, even if she won't admit how much she cares for him to herself.

There was a shit ton of drama that ensues for Rory and Scarlett. Scarlett doesn't want to put Rory in danger and at some point realizes that she can't accomplish what she needs and have Rory too. She tries any and everything she can to push him away. And, OMG, does this girl try. There were moments where I wanted to smack the shit out of her but at the same time, I understood her thought process. I'm just happy that Rory was a strong enough man to understand her too.

As much as I was rooting for Rory and Scarlett, not everyone else was, including Crow. But when shit was going down there was no way Crow was sending Rory into some shit alone. No matter what he stood by his brothers side.
"When one of us goes to war," Crow says, "we all go to war."

For all of us Boston Underworld fans, we still get to how close everyone is. I want to be a Mob Wife!!! Like yesterday!!!

In the end Scarlett allows herself to love and be loved. She couldn't image a life with Rory even if she tried.
All my yesterdays mean nothing if my tomorrows aren't with you.

Conner makes another appearance in this book and he has grown some balls! What! Yes! I love that kid.

I was wracking my brain trying to figure out who Scarlett was before the author clicks it into place for us.

Scarlett is an anti-heroine. She is unlike any character I've ever read. Her suffering has made her a really hard and cold woman. She is also bat-shit crazy. There's no way to soften that description and her actions sometimes can only be labeled as such. Cray-cray.

Additionally, Scarlett has a very unique way of viewing the world and apparently this has been so all her life. Some of what she says and does really points to autism but nothing is confirmed.

Rory sees something in Scarlett that calls to him on a primal level. She pushes him like nobody ever has yet he remains constant. I've gotta praise him for his perseverance because lord knows even I lost patience with Scarlett and her games. He is one hot hero, let me tell you.

The plot is interesting because you really don't know what to expect. Crazy heroine, remember? It's fast paced and all over the place. I started reading really late and couldn't put it down. @.@ I can see where some readers might struggle with this but I was totally hooked.

Safety: There are others for both after meeting. However, no others for either after they are intimate together, though there is an attempt. Big yes to rape. Yes to abuse. Both are as far from virgins as you could possibly get.

"The fault is not in our stars, but our hearts - those immortal instruments which beat on in spite of our most valiant efforts to destroy them."

Saint is the fourth book in the Boston Underworld series by A. Zavarelli which happens to be my favorite mafia romance series to date. For that reason alone, I went into this one with extremely high expectations, and I was not disappointed! Lachlan and Mack are my first loves, but Scarlett and Rory gave them a run for their money!

"Some girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. Some are made of venom and sin. When you open the chambers to their hearts, you'll find - absolutely nothing within."

 photo ajajsja_zpsjxnjgwpw.gif

I have been patiently waiting to read Scarlett's story, and I'm so glad that I finally got to. Ever since we were first introduced to her character, she has intrigued me. At this point in the series, we know she isn't selling herself for sex like Mack previously assumed. Instead, she drugs men, robs them, and kicks their ass. Don't feel sorry for the bastards though! They deserve every bit of it. Trust me!
 photo llbdhs_zpsnfrfrvaq.gif

Rory, aka Saint, is a member of the Irish mafia, and he has it bad for Scarlett. If hard to get was a Olympic event, Scarlett would have a gold medal, but that just makes Rory want her more. She drives him crazy in every way possible. Besides her leaving him confused and sexually frustrated on a regular basis, Rory's aware of the way Scarlett lives her life, and he hates it.

"He's a tee shirt and jeans guy. A dimples guy. A jokes guy. A punch-you-in-the-face-on Thursday nights guy. He's too many things. Tall and casual and funny and green eyed."

 photo jsjsj-1_zpsf8nodo3o.gif

"And I'm only one thing and it's not his girlfriend."

Too bad for him, Scarlett doesn't give a fuck. She isn't looking for love. The only think she wants is revenge. After suffering a traumatic event in her past, she ran away from her old life leading people to believe she was dead. Unfortunately for her attackers, she is alive and well and coming for each and every one of them.

 photo baja_zpscls7ibej.gif

For a while, Scarlett seems to have the upper hand. Her plan is going smoothly, and total vengeance appears within reach. Until, one of them finds out she is alive, and the hunter becomes the hunted.

"He really is a Saint. And I really am the Devil. But together, we're a match made in heaven."

I'm going to try to hold myself back from gushing endlessly about my love for this book and this series in general, but it's going to be hard. One thing I am going to allow myself to go on about for a minute though is the main characters of this story, Scarlett and Rory. I absolutely adore them! They are going down as one of my favorite couples of all time!

 photo hhu_zpsc4m8ksk4.gif

"She was beautiful - but especially she was without mercy." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

Scarlett is a heroine I'll never forget. She's crazy, badass, and breathtakingly beautiful. What I admire most about her is her strength. The horrors she endured in her past made my heart absolutely ache for her. I understood why she pushed Rory away the way she did. If someone you loved and knew your whole life did something that horrific to you, I promise you that you would have a hell of a lot of issues as a result. It would be a wonder if you allowed anyone to get close to you ever again. Scarlett is nothing if not insanely brave. Because of that, I knew she would come around eventually, and when she did, I was so damn proud of her.

"He's all jagged edges and soft corners. A contradiction of dark masculinity and soft humor. But inside, he feels. And I'm the girl that's going to soak him in kerosene before I light a match."

 photo 2a391547b6a152bdaeeb5a59b52cc12c_zpscgdyeo19.gif

Rory was perfect for Scarlett in every way. Did I tell you how much I love him? I'm head over heels for this one, y'all! He is a total alpha male, but secure enough in himself to have a strong, alpha female by his side. Rory never treats Scarlett like she's less than. He honors and respects her as an equal, and I fucking loved it! I also loved that he was prepared to kill for Scarlett without batting an eye, and he did.  More than once.
 photo s2xwup_zpsbetj5js9.gif

"They're dead, sweetheart. They just don't know it yet."

Rory is mafia, and despite that, I can't say he's a bad guy. A man with a heart that big can't be. It's what endeared him to me the most. His patience with Scarlett was commendable. The love and understanding he showed her was touching, and the soft spot he has for women and children made me swoon. When I say he gave Lachlan a run for his money, I mean it. If you know me, you know Lachlan is one of my favorite book boyfriends, so that's extremely  high praise.
 photo 21810776_zpslvpyk6nm.gif

Saint exceeded my expectations in every way! The story was gritty, entertaining, violent, and full of action. The romance was heartwarming and hot, and the characters were complex. Mafia romance fans, you can't go wrong with Saint or the Boston Underworld series as a whole. I recommend this one to you!

The Baddest B!tch of the series has arrived!
Yes, the book is called Saint, but don't sleep on my homegirl, Scarlet. Scarlet a.k.a Satan is the type of chick that will set it off!

 photo scarjo2.jpg

She is my absolute FAVORITE heroine of the series. Scarlet is that crazy friend you'd want by your side when you know shit is about to get real. She's not an experienced fighter like Mack, but more of a subtle threat. Her targets never see her coming. I was intrigued by her story when we first met her in Crow, but I had no idea her story would be this good.
Scarlet is smart, cunning, manipulative, and aloof. Don’t judge me, but I think all women should possess these qualities (LOL). She all about getting it done on her own. She doesn’t need anyone and refuses to conform to the notion that a man should handle the dirty work. To sum it up for you – Scarlet is bout that life! If you get in her way; you get f*cked up!

Enter Rory a.k.a Saint.

 photo saint.gif

He’s willing to put himself on the line for her and look past all her f*cked up crazy. That’s real love, folks. Trust me, I know ;) He has officially replaced Reaper as my favorite hero of the series. That’s no small feat; I loved me some Reaper. There’s something about the silent deadly type that gets me hot and bothered. However, Rory tops that because he wants Scarlet in spite of who she appears to be. He’s sexy, strong, and totally complements Scarlet in every way. She’s the chick that will set it off and he’s the hitter to the left who has her back. She’s the Bonnie to his Clyde.

Putting these two together is downright sinful. The story is inherently sexy, but it’s so much more than that. The chemistry and longing between Satan and Saint is palpable.

 photo sexy.gif

I was excited the entire time. You know that feeling when you’re partying and your jam comes on…

 photo saintdance.gif

Yep, that was me reading this book.

Keeping that in mind, I have to state that this book may not be for everyone. There are some intense situations. This book is raw and gritty. If you have triggers, this may not be your gig. If you’ve read any of the other books in the series, you’re good. If you’re looking for a sexy read and everything goes, this book is for you. It has my highest recommendation.

So, to wrap this up – BUY THIS BOOK! A. Zavarelli is a master. While her characters may have flaws, her writing is flawless. I’m amazed by the stories she’s come up with and can’t wait for the next one. I rate it All the Stars!

Five men. One agenda. A calculated detour into the arms of a sexy, Irish mobster who turns out to be so much more than she expected...

Anti-doormat heroine ✔
Fiery hot sexy times ✔
HEA?

Scarlett was vengeance-obsessed with a side of PTSD and a dash of OCD! But Rory and Scarlett together were like fire and ice! An enchanting compromise of wills!

 photo IMG_4027_zps6jcpqlpe.jpg

Scarlett was initially pessimistic and jaded, but Rory was always a charmer with the patience level of a saint!

Favorite line in Scarlett's thoughts?
Time to dust off my broom. The bitch is back.

Favorite lines from Rory?
Scarlett isn’t the sort of girl you take to the movies.
You don’t buy her flowers and chocolates to sweeten her mood.
You take her to an armory.

The most darling addition to this story? Whiskey, of course! Enjoyed!

Ashleigh's a modern day poetess on a keyboard, tap tapping away the notes of sex and violence in perfectly metered harmony.

Some girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. Some are made of venom and sin. When you open the chambers to their hearts, you’ll find- absolutely nothing within.
But I’m like a kid with too many toys and I am torn. I want to come inside of her again . I want to fuck her raw again. I want to come on her tits and her arse and her throat and in her mouth. In a car and on a plane and on a motherfucking train. I want to fuck her all day, every day, and oh fuck… there it is. I explode inside of her mouth.

Tell me that doesn't play your heart strings ...it played mine like a harp !!!!
Scarlett is no ordinary lassie. Frankly , her thirst for blood scares the crap out of me , but she's unstoppable, rolling tricks, stalking her prey and getting close to her goal of Praetorian Five ! She was a little Birdie in their hands , clipped wings, shattered soul and all, but now she's a Satan on a mission.
Heartless. Ruthless. Painless.
And where does Rory fit in ? ...I'd say everywhere ! He's a constant in her chaotic life. They're similar and complete opposites.
He wants her, she pushes him.
He captures her, she escapes him.
He promises her, she crushes him.
What a Dodge And Parry dance they both play !
In the end it's all out war

One.Two.Three.Four. I declare a blood war !!

Ahhhh what a battle cry, if I ever heard a better one .
She does twinge in regret , for just like a minute tho

If you drink much from a bottle marked 'poison' it is certain to disagree with you sooner or later-I grieve what we both became. I grieve the unfairness of life and the hard choices. When it’s all done, I wipe my eyes

With each book, we're sucked deeper and experience into the violent Boston Underground Club, where strippers, killers, dancers and Russians play a game of Last Man Standing, almost everyday of their lives. Yet they find time to meet their soulmates, marry and have babies.
I love each and every one of these Beast and their Beauties.

Are you serious?..........As a heart attack, baby.

So before I begin I have to say I loved this book series up until this book. I was excited for this book and honestly It turned out as a disappointment to me. So The biggest issue I had was definitely Scarlett. Reading her point of view was very uncomfortable for me. It was because Scarlett was just filled with so much hate and revenge. I understand that's what makes Scarlett, Scarlett but it was definitely over kill. Also, she lied and played people the majority of this book. She just wasn't my kind of heroine. The other thing I disliked in this book was that it wasn't as intense, their relationship, as the previous books. There wasn't that intense passion between the two love interests that makes the book Amazing. So overall I'm rating this book 3 stars as in a tad above average. I loved the ending. The writing was perfectly done. And lastly the book was never dull or boring.

4 "crazed up in retaliation" stars

Book 4 in the Boston Underground series brings us the turmoil that consists of two dramatically opposites in action – Scarlett (aka Tenly Albright) and Irish mafia man Rory „The Saint“ Brodrick

Scarlett
She's toxic. Poison.
She's feminine. Inviting.
And no doubt deadly as hell.

But she's a scarred shell of a person due to a vile physically and emotional torment and violation she went through in her past leaving her empty and retaliation driven as an aftermath
Scarlett doesn't feel anything. She doesn't show any emotion. She's colder than a fucking ice cube even though she looks anything but.

She's on a warpath, practicing her vengeanful ways on assholes – men who'd seek out hookers for cheap thrills and fast pleasure – fucking them up, leaving them scarred on the ouside as she was/is from the inside, the whole time searching and preparing for the final ordeal with the five men who done her wrong in the past.

And she's set on taking them down one by one, no matter what it takes, no matter what she has to do...
I'm a wrecking ball, and you don't fuck with a wrecking ball.

I'm a compulsive liar. It's what I do for a living. It's what i do to survive.

until she crosses path with Rory.
Rory Brodrick. AKA the Saint.
He's a fighter. A hustler. And a mobster.

And he wants HER. Only he can't have HER, she's slippery, dangerous and liability.
BUT the „game“ they set upon each other, will test the limits of each of their capacity to bend but not break, in the hustling house of cards, lines will be blurred and hearts will be found, as scary as it might be for them both, more for Scarlett then Rory...
I've been lying to Rory since the day that I met him....
It's a second nature. As easy as breathing. To lie even when I don't need to.

And yet again, she's putting herself outhere even if she's not aware of the action as such...being stubbornly elusive and crazed up reclusive, wild and untamed...but Rory is a fighter and as stubborn as she is...
I can be patient. And she will learn to trust me.

And when the push comes to shove, they will try to break one another in persistance to change or not to change...
I'm not ever going to give up on you. I'm not ever going to e like the people who walked out of your life and hurt you. I'm in your corner, always. And I will go to battle for ye every single day for the rest of my life, so long as I have you by my side.

But that just might not be enough for Scarlett...cause she not only has to beat her past, she needs to find a purpose beyond revenge alone that's been eating on her for so long, she needs to let herself free and move on...and that's not something she'd let on happening in an instant...beyond the crazy revenge impulse, she will eventually find a sort of pease in letting Rory take care of her, take care of the part of her vengeance and fulfill it. But she'd be keeping that elusive streak within her cause, after all...it's how they function...hence
He really is a Saint. And I really am the Devil.

This was another sequel packed with steamy action and steamy untipical romance in pursuit of revenge, redemption and letting go...even though I personally found unsatisfactory with resolving a certian part of mentioned vengeance, i kinda didn't find the catarthic notion as I was expecting BUT inspite that, it a highly driven action sexed up ride you don't wanna get off.

Thank you, Ashleigh!!!

3.5 for Rory Stars

Have you ever read a book and loved everything about it except one of the lead characters?

Well that's what happened to me with this book. I loved Rory, the side characters and the plot BUT Scarlett annoyed the shit out of me! Her inner dialogue was repetitive, boring and just drove me nuts. I felt bad for Rory that he fell for her.

It just shows how great this series and the writing is, that I can hate a lead character so much but still really like the book! Fingers crossed there are no other Scarletts in the series ;)

I will warn you this review is going to be a mess because my feelings about this book are all over the place.
The condensed version:
Loved Rory but...
Hated Scarlett
Loved the end
Hated all the time spent in her head.
And there you have it. The slightly more detailed version follows....
I loved 'Crow' and 'Reaper' and while 'Ghost' was a darker more difficult read and my least favourite of the three it was still well written and powerful.
I was looking forward to 'Saint' but in reality I struggled, really struggled with Scarlett I know she's suffered and the more I read the more I understood the extent of her torment and her need for revenge but still I found her incredibly unlikable.
I expected her to be a strong powerful force instead I thought she was the weakest female so far, I didn't like that we spent so much time in her head all the endless
Boys. That’s what they are.
Silly little playthings.
On my stage, and in my show, the only players I allow have blue blooded pedigrees. Like the current toy waiting for me.....

I understood, at first it's a great way to let us know what was happening but it began to really annoy me, now that could be because I didn't like her and I felt guilty for not liking her but I just didn't.
Now Rory. I loved Rory, I love all these Irish boys but I didn't like (can't believe I'm actually saying this because I'm all about the romance) how gone he was over her but again that most likely comes down to the fact that I didn't like her.
The writing again was good along with the story in fact Scarlett was my only problem but she was obviously such a major part of the book and therefore a major problem.
I'm intrigued by Storm and Booker, more so Booker because I'm a little scared that Storm will turn out to be another Scarlett.
I loved the end of this book, I loved that we get to see the real Scarlett, the woman she would have been.
My opinion for what it's worth
I know Scarlett had to be hard and focused but the difference for me was the way she thought of and treated Rory.
I think I could have forgiven everything else but not this.
And now, I’m going to use him like a pawn. I’m going to take Rory’s fragile, vulnerable little heart… and I’m going to play with it like a f***ing toy.

Under people who are batshit crazy and need 24/7 therapy sessions, there's a picture of Scarlett. She's seriously messed up and evil. Her nickname of Satan really fits.

Scarlett has a really fucked up past and I applaud her for getting revenge. She really should. People who do what they did deserve to suffer. On her revenge mission, Scarlett is a trick collar, meaning she pretends to be a prostitute, but then drugs and robs the johns. She hogties them and extracts info from them before she's done. I'd personally be harvesting organs as well, but I'm a fan of scalpels and practicing my sewing skills.

Rory is part of the Irish mob and has a thing for Scarlett. He's crazy for the crazy. He's an easygoing and nice, joking type of guy, which is the antithesis of Scarlett. You really don't get how they work together except that Rory isn't a buffoon and he's nice to her. He puts up with her crazy moods and rolling stone ways. Sometimes you feel like he's a dunce for trying with her because she's like trying to date a tornado. He keeps trying though.

The villain was very villainous. I enjoyed Storm, thinking she might get a book because she's crazier than Scarlett. Really. Liked Booker and Connor. Now where's the next book in the series?

This isn't 5 stars from me, but close, because Scarlett and her crazy are saddening. She's so destructive that it's hard to watch/read. Still liked her for owning her crazy.

"I don't know how this happened."

Saint is the fourth book in the Boston Underworld Series. Rory ‘The Saint’ Brodrick, an Irish Mobster, is no stranger to taking trouble head-on. But Scarlett is trouble like he has never experienced before. Rory has had his eyes on her for a long time and when Scarlett traps Rory in her web, a sequence of events are triggered and life or death is on the line.

description
"I protect the people I love. And sometimes, that means getting a little bloody."
Told in dual POV, Saint, for me, was slightly different from the other books in the series. Although it contained the same amount of mob action, smoking hot steam, and dark romance, I found it difficult to connect with Scarlett. Scarlett is a truly damaged heroine and although I admired Rory's dedication to her, I found myself frustrated with her inability to appreciate Rory and the loyalty he so willingly gave to her. Still, this was another stunning read with a unique plot set in a mafia world!

Overall, I highly recommend Saint and the entire Boston Underworld Series to anyone who enjoys an expertly constructed dark romance! This series has quickly elevated to one of my favorites of all time and I can only hope and pray that there will be more to come!

4 Satan-heroine stars

Warning: quite DIFFERENT opinion

"I’m no good for you. You only get one warning."

Floved this heroine.
Brutal, cold, unapologetic woman.
She lived dirty, she played dirty.
Tough b*tch!
"Anyone who wants to judge me
can fuck right off."

Strong women on the revenge path is my kryptonite.

The stronger the better.
The colder the sexier.

My thrill of ecstasy.

Does it make me a s*ck b*tch? Maybe. Whatever.
Boo f*cking hoo!

I wish this one were stronger physically and could use weapons, so she woudn’t have needed any help to take her revenge.

TBH I didn’t care for the male protagonist, he was more side character for me.
His Beta to her Alpha.
In my “romantic bubble” the man chases a woman, he woos and cherishes her.
This one knew the heroine for over 2 years and despite his feelings/lust didn’t quit his casual hook-ups. If you read the 2nd book, you remember that she was sexually abused by the butcher. This MP was one of the guys who rescued her.
He saw her pain, he knew that the woman he lusted after was raped.
What did he do? He went back to f**k random OWs.

The h pushed him away? Yep.
Did he chase her? Nope.
Sorry, but it’s not a real MAN to me.

The heroine went after him, she initiated their relationship. She needed him to “end” her enemies and she played him. Did it bother me? Nope.
She didn’t hide her intentions, IMO she was more honest than him.
They f**ked, she pushed away, he did nothing.
She came back to him, they f**ked, she pushed away, he pouted as a virginal catholic schoolboy. Ugh.

He told her he would never give up on her and the next day he didn’t fight for her as she pushed him away again. Ok, she kissed OM, but MP claimed to have some brain cells and he could have at least checked this OM, dug deeper.
Nope, he was offended and just left. Ugh!

This woman deserved a real MAN.

I didn’t like that she came back to him, I didn’t like that she became softer, I hated that she asked him to marry her. Ugh!

WARNING/Spoilers:

I hope the next book is about STORM.
Damn, I loved this girl.
A woman who hated and tortured cheaters?
YES! YES! YES!
I need her book NOW.

Title: ➳ ❤-Saint
Series ➳ Boston Underground 4#
Author: ➳ A. Zavarelli
Publication: December 15th 2016

*****
ღ God I know that I am so late to this party, but never the last I am here now

The further I read into this Series, the darker the books become. This one was pretty damn dark. With each book I keep thinking it can’t get any crazier or darker, but the author keeps proving me wrong

➳ Scarlet a.k.a “Satan” has only one goal in life. To kill all the men that did her wrong. I believe that the women is bat-shit crazy. I get all that she been through, but lord have mercy the women was bipolar. There were times where I liked her & I thought that she is totally kickass & then there were other times where she would spew shit & it is completely unnecessary.

➳Rory is part of the Irish mob, he fighter in the underground club they have- & has a thing for Scarlett for some time now.

➳ Rory a.k.a the “Saint” & trust me he was the Saint of all Saint for put up with all the shit from Scarlett & still kept his promise to be there for her.

♥●• Rory & Scarlett justice will be served, but at what cost?

This story is so full of ups & downs, twists & turns. At times you are going to wonder wtf was the author thinking about putting these two characters together, but somehow she made it work in the end

💕 I really enjoyed Rory & Scarlet- I am excited to read the next book in this series… Now where's the next book in the series?
📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion & my honest review 💕

He was a Saint who coveted The Devil herself…

My sadistic little hellion.

Rory Brodrick has no idea what’s good for him. His lust filled eyes, his affable smile… Scarlett is nothing like the kind of woman he needs… Oh but he fucking wants. And after the scent of her signature perfume first hit his nostrils he pictured no other woman being a key fixture in his life. He knows it’s an act, he knows the real game that Scarlett is playing and he HATES it…. But he’ll walk through far worse than fire for something real from her.

I know you've suffered
But I don't want you to hide
It's cold and loveless
I won't let you be denied

NEVER underestimate a man who can flash his dimples while his entire world crumbles around him.

Scarlett loathes Rory, he reminds her of everything she will never have. Never be. She wears her hatred like an armor against the human race and he confuses her when she continuously offers him the only thing he could possibly want from her (to fuck her) and he never even tries to take her up on it. She knows she affects him… she doesn’t need his white-knight bullshit trying to save her soul. She doesn’t have one!

I meant what I said. I’ll always go to war for you, Satan.

Soothing
I'll make you feel pure
Trust me
You can be sure

Until she does need him and all his heroic notions, just not quite the way HE thinks she does. He wants to be her savior…. and she wants him to be her pawn.

You trick your lovers
That you're wicked and divine
You may be a sinner
But your innocence is mine

However, as is often the case in webs of lies and half-truths, things start to blur.

It’s not so easy to use someone once you realize just how much they’ve been through to get to where they are today. And when those walls start to crack and your actions have real consequences that bleed over onto people you never wanted caught in the crossfire. How do you justify using the only person who has never used you?

But I’m thinking about Rory […] piecing it together in that stupidly beautiful head of his. He would know then, what I did. And it would still be too late, but he would know.

I want to reconcile the violence in your heart
I want to recognize your beauty's not just a mask
I want to exorcise the demons from your past
I want to satisfy the undisclosed desires in your heart

There's honey on her lips, but destruction in her kiss.
There's so much promise in that quote, don't you think? SO MUCH. Unfortunately, this one went terribly wrong for me despite including everything that gets me hot and bothered:
==>revenge
==>mafia
==>enemies to lovers
==>take no bullshit, kick-ass heroine
==>low-key alpha hero
==>dark themes
==>amazing author
I should have been in heaven! Damn it, I should be gushing right now about how much I loved this book! But somehow all of the above potential was utterly squandered.

Don't worry, I won't subject you to a long-winded rant. :)

I'll just mention the main reason that I'm so disappointed...there was almost NO romance in this romance novel. The relationship between Scarlett and Rory was almost completely non-existent. In fact, Rory was basically a secondary character...in his own book! Instead of a you-and-me-against-the-world kind of scenario, we got Scarlett - who the author made to look like an inept idiot multiple times - giving the finger to everyone and everything, me included.

Will I read the next one? OF COURSE. Ppssshhh...after the first three books in this series, I won't stop till I've read everything this author has ever written!!!

Now that's how you make an ending. 😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 The final book of the Boston Underworld exceeded my expectations. I never thought I'm going to love it because the protagonists here are my least favorite in the series. Well, they rendered me speechless.

Scarlett is a devil in disguise 😈💅🏻👄. She's a trick roller with an agenda. She plots a revenge against five men who destroyed her soul in the past. She's no longer the weak girl they used to know and she's back to unleash hell and put them in their graves. Nothing is going to stop her even the so called Saint of the MacKenna Syndicate.

When Rory Brodrick first saw Scarlett, he was instantly drawn with her beauty. He loves her guts and being rejected by her a lot makes him determined to pursue her more. He knows she's attracted to him and she has business to fulfill. He wants to be a man who'll protect her at all cost and he's willing to help her.

From least favorite, Scarlett became my instant favorite in the series. She's dominant, bold and fierce. She's a tough chick who kick men's asses! The perfect song to describe her was Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift. I'm legit cheering her throughout the novel and she's on FIRE. She's one badass anti-heroine. I love her! 👏🏼👏🏼 Props to Rory for keeping up with her. Honestly the guy is such a man of honor and accepts her for who she is. Flaws and all. These two have an amazing chemistry and character developments. The sexy times are definitely hot and intense.

The highlight of this novel aside from the happy ever after was Chapter 39. That was a spectacular all out war from Scarlett, Storm, Rory and the main MacKenna Syndicate members (Lachlan, Ronan, Dom and Conor plus Alexei -- the Russian ally). This chapter was the freaking BEST. It's action-packed and when Scarlett said "No. Fuck this. And fuck them. Fuck all these motherfuckers." and rained them with bullets. I'm screaming internally with joy! Who says only Mafiosos can shoot guns and go to war? Not Scarlett though.

Overall, this is a great ending for the series (though I want more.. at least a novella for Nikolai and Tanaka. Haha!). If you are looking for a great mafia-themed series, Boston Underworld is a must read.

"Tainting my own soul so that yours will stay intact. I want to do that for ye. And I want you to let me.”

This was my least favorite in the series. And it is terrible too because I was really looking forward to Scarlet's story. I just didn't care too much for scarlet or Saint. Their love was insta attraction.

I'm having a bad run with romances ATM.
I bought this book because I thought Scarlett would be the kind of kickass, takes-no-prisoners, gives zero fucks heroine that would drag me out of my doldrums. And she is! She's on a quest for revenge and not even sexy sexypot Rory McIrishguy can stop her with his use of the word 'ye' instead of 'you'
Swoon.
EXCEPT...
She's a victim of gang rape. She was gang-raped and left for dead when she was a teenager, that's why she's on a revenge quest and why she's so cold and complicated and OH MY GOD I'M SO SICK OF READING ABOUT FEMALE PROTAGONISTS WHO WERE BRUTALLY RAPED AND THAT IS THEIR ENTIRE MOTIVATION FOR DOING ANYTHING.
It's not that Saint isn't funny and super hot in parts.
It is.
It's not that I didn't like A Zaverelli's writing style. Or Rory and Scarlett's romance, or the 'gangsters with morals' world she's building.
I did.
But fuck me, I'm sick of reading about rape. And I find it deeply ironic and sad that while the author/publisher goes out of their way to assure the reader on the Amazon and Goodreads page there's a HEA and NO CHEATING you're never warned there's a SHITTONNE OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE.
I mean, from Scarlett's original gang rape, to her oral rape at the hands of Royce (her FBI agent ex-boyfriend who left her for dead) and his rape of one of Scarlett's fellow sex workers and then rape of two of Scarlett's attackers by a man (rape as revenge for rape is a concept that defies logic for me) this book was steeped in rape. And sure the Amazon page tells you this is a Dark Mafia Romance but am I meant to imply from that, that rape is going to abound from every other page?
Because I didn't.
And I'll be honest, I'd gladly read a scene in which Scarlett porked someone other than Rory in exchange for Katie's rape scene being vamoosed.
Seriously, IN WHAT WORLD ARE PEOPLE MORE OFFENDED BY CHEATING THAN GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS OF RAPE?
This world Dangerfield. This world.
description

Look, as I said in my review of Asking For It, I am a rape survivor and while I can appreciate writers have a right to tell stories and create characters however they wish, the clunky and often exploitative way sexual violence is used in romance fiction to create tension and galvanize revenge plots for men and women gives me the shits. Big time.
But whether or not rape as a plot device personally offends me is not the point. The point is that to a subject a reader to these graphic scenes without informing them, prior to purchase, that they will experience them just seems a bit... mean.
I did not seek out Saint so I could get all hopped up about depictions of rape in romance fiction, it was recommended by a reviewer I respect and I was like "Sweet! That looks sexy and seems to have a cool female lead! Imma read that!"
I even scanned the reviews on this very website and not one referenced the graphic rape scenes. A few said Scarlett was a bitch, but I love me a bitch female lead. So I bought the book, and prepared to have a nice time reading a spicy romance. Instead, I stayed up all night thinking about how much I hate rape. And I did not have a nice time.
It's hard to navigate the world as a rape victim, because depictions of rape and rape culture are literally everywhere, and not to get all #thisviolatesmysafeeyes about it, but to have graphic rape scenes sprung on you when you just want to chill and get fuzzy romance tingles, sucks donkey dick.
The only lesson I can draw from Saint is that I, as a consumer, need to steer well clear of anything that describes itself as 'dark' because this word is an allegory for sexual violence. Other readers who love romance and hate rape should keep that in mind too (rape isn't just disturbing for people who've experienced it after all.)
And hey, I would have loved a trigger warning on Saint so I'd have known not to purchase, but that was not the case. Maybe one day it'll be different.
In the meantime here's some links about why I'm not the only person who thinks the rape as a plot device trope is cheap, boring and unnecessary:

http://www.comicbookbin.com/Female_Ch...

And here's what I think about badass female leads whose entire basis as a strong character is due to experiencing, then avenging, rape

Arc review.
4 stars.

After every book in this series I have pressed 5 stars and added it to my favorites shelf without hesitation. This one didn't work for me as well as the others have.

Scarlett pushes Rory away and then pulls him back in constantly. It's a game to her and he's her toy. He's not blind to what's happening but I think it went on a bit longer than I could tolerate. She has an ugly past and now spends her days making men pay for it. Rory is just hell bent on saving her and trying to talk her into letting him take care of the guys.

I didn't really pay attention to Rory in past books but now I kind of think maybe the problem was that his book came right after 2 "tortured heros" in book 2 and 3, which I'm a sucker for.

Rory is adorable but I didn't get a lot of depth because it was so focused on Scarlett.

The book was NOT bad at all. I'm kind of just thinking to myself while typing why this one was a little different that the others.

But anyway still a solid 4 star read!

“She was stone cold and hard as fuck. And that’s when I knew, she was a ride or die chick. The Letty to my Dom.”

How'd it stack? Welllllll.....

descriptiondescriptiondescription

*** 3 Seductive Lip Bites ***

So, it's no secret that I've been a big ol' giant fan of A. Zavarelli's Boston Underworld series.

description

But, for ME, this book just didn't stack up. Ms. Zavarelli really set the bar so damn high with books #1 Crow, #2 Reaper, and #3 Ghost. Like, really really up there, people! She's a fantastic writer of dark and twisted fiction. This one just didn't hurdle the bar for me.

description

OH FECKING WELL!

description

What didn't work for me? One word... Scarlett. I just could not connect with her. She was so cold. So vindictive and hateful. It totally zapped my give-a-shit feelings about her.

description

I really tried to connect with her character... taking into consideration all her trauma. And, I totally got the rage-filled inner monologue about the guys who had horribly mistreated her in the past... but, directing it towards Rory (the only guy who seemed to even remotely be on her side) was uncalled for. The back and forth "game" she played with Rory, her self-proclaimed "toy", was annoying to me.

description

Rory, on the other hand, I really did like. He was a good fella. Not as rough and tough as the other H's we've seen Ms. Zavarelli write, but it was nice to see the sweet side of this guy. Personally, I like my Irish Mafia guys with bit more edge. But, tbh, Scarlett was whack-a-doodle enough.

description

I really did like the way this book ended. And, overall, it wasn't a terrible read. Given my love for Zavarelli's writing and for the Mafia blokes in her books, I will definitely be looking forward to the next one. Though I'm a bit nervous the next book will be about Storm... and she seems nuttier than Scarlett... help us all.

This is the 4th book of the amazing Irish mafia series Boston Underworld and Saint had a lot to live up to. Although Rory is not a character that intrigued me much in the previous book, Zavarelli instantly make me a big fan of his right from the start.

The heroine, Scarlett is a handful and not exactly likable in the beginning. She is duped the Medusa, Satan and Devil by Rory. Scarlett is Mack's friend and still working on the street, I didn't expect her to be on a rampant to avenge herself. I finally understand the reason behind her cold unfeeling personality and the ease she manipulate the men around her. Although she is frustrate me to no end with the way she treat Rory, I understand where she is coming from and just hoping she will come around and see that she have people that is on her side.

Rory, the big bad Irish hustler is such a sweetheart. I know I'm supposed to highlight his alpha personality and how badass he is in the ring, but the reason he win me over is his protective nature towards women, especially Scarlett, the woman who hates his guts. He is so patient and forgiving when it comes to her. He knew she is trouble but he still goes along no matter how badly he get burn.

Scarlett is single minded in her mission for revenge, even if leaving a pile of bodies behind is what it takes. With Rory constantly nipping at her heels, he might be turn into one of her casualties as well.

The story is suspenseful with Scarlett's painful past and the enemies she needed to eliminate one by one. The constant push and pull relationship between Scarlett and Rory is also intriguing as fuck because I really can't wait for Scarlett to finally grow a heart and treat Rory the way he deserve.

I have some minor complaint though. I find that the way the main villain was being dealt with was a tad anti-climatic. After witnessing what he had done, I would have prefer a more satisfying outcome that what was presented. And regards to the final battle between Crow's men and the rich folk's security details, I find that was a bit OTT. It feels like a freaking warzone. I wonder who the hell they hired as security guards and what kind of firearm are they packing.

Despite my minor quibble towards the end, Saint is still an amazing and engaging read for me. Both romance and suspense part of the story was really well done. Rory is such an amazing hero and Scarlett definitely came along way from the evil ice queen to a woman who can finally admit she is smitten with her man.

Otra vez termino insatisfecha, otro vez me decepcionó un libro, otra vez me desvelé y otra vez quiero recuperar mis horas perdidas.

What can I say other than I love this series! Out of all the heroines my favorite is Scarlett. She's a take no prisoners, badass, and has an evil streak a mile long; and often referred to as Satan.

Saint no choirboy! His hobbies include protecting the syndicate, doling out pain when its called for and some play by play action in the ring.

I'm actually sorry their story has ended, wasn't prepared for that hahahah. The drama was intense and the storyline.....freaking killer! Loved every second of it! Can practically hear some heavy metal thrasher music while envisioning them. Happy reading.....enjoy!
