My life was perfectly fine before I jumped into the ocean fully clothed. Great job, perfect apartment, good enough boyfriend.

So why did I turn up soaking wet at the beach bar of a very rough around the edges, very hot single dad and insist he hire me?

Maybe because as it turned out, perfectly fine wasn't actually good enough.

Soon, Grumpy Mac, his sullen teenage son, and his sunshiney dog show me just how messy and beautiful life can be.

But while this imperfect life and family I've stepped into here brings out a new me I love, it also highlights parts of the old me I miss—back there.

Will I have to choose between what I had and what I want?

Or is it possible to have it all here and there?

An all-new standalone small town romance from Claire Wilder, USA Today bestselling author, featuring a grumpy single dad, adorable sunshiney heroine, and a whole town that rallies for love.

Well this book knocked me off my feet. I really wasn't sure what to think, but I absolutely loved it!
Mac and Shelby were everything.

Everyone needs a Mac in their life. Mac is this grumpy guy who falls almost immediately for Shelby. Although, I don't think he realizes it. It's so obvious though. Even from the beginning. One of my favorite quotes that had me laughing was:

"If you see her in town, you're going to avoid her like she's got a communicable disease. Because she does."
"What?"
"It's me. I'm the disease."

Seriously, it had me dying. He's so protective of her. But then you see him be a dad to his son, and my heart just melted all over. They have so much to get through but it was so worth it.

Shelby was the sunshine in this story. You just couldn't help but love her. She has some self-esteem issues, but man, Mac loves her so much and is constantly telling her. I loved it.

I could've done without the third-act breakup though. I don't think this book needed it. We already had the angst with Nate's mom; honestly, that would've been enough.

I wanted more of them at the end. I want a bonus scene to see where they are in the future. Where Nate is, where they all stand. I'm really not ready for them to be over. I just want more with them.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow! When I started reading this, I was really nervous about whether I would like it or not! A grumpy/sunshine trope!! But this absolutely melted my heart. 💓The beginning did make my heart stop and I wondered in which direction this book would develop. Damn, i fell in love with Shelby and Mac for real.
Mac is real grumpy but the way he feels about Shelby wow! A wonderful story about these two and how the characters grow as the story progresses and talk about their own difficulties/difficult feelings openly!

Shelby was unsure of herself at first and the twists and turns at the beginning made my mouth drop open! Shelby tries so hard to please her parents and other people, but her "growing up story" is an absolutely amazing to read. Shelby's character and everyone were really wonderful!

Mac's relationship with his son and what kind of father he is..Wow, my heart melted here too! Mac was so protective of Shelby! And all the Nicknames he called Shelby “Sweetheart” “Ponytail” AND THAT “Good girl” !!!! 😍😍 Wow I couldn't get enough of these characters! I dived deep into this book and loved it so much!

I just want more of this, and them 🫶🏼

I received an advance review copy for free, and this is my voluntarily honest review.

the perfect small town romance with all the angst, swoon, spice and feels🥹

I had a blast reading this and falling in love with the characters and found family! Mac was the grumpiest but secretly the biggest softie and I LOVED him!! Shelby was a great heroine and of course all the side characters made this book A+!!

I LOVED the relationship Mac had with his son and the growth in that! Between laughing, smiling and tearing up I adored this!

I loved when an author takes a classic trope/subgenre like small town romance and makes it unique! This book felt super refreshing and brought something different to the small town romance vibes!

I can’t wait for the next book 👀

Mac and Shelby are two of my new favorite characters. So vulnerable and real and of course completely dreamy and fictional at the same time.
This story is full of past traumas and hurts for both main characters. There is also so much for both of these two to look forward to once they meet each other. Everything between them is charged with possibilities. Of course they are both scared, but they are lonely too. For Shelby that loneliness pushes her to excel in her work. For Mac it pushes him to close him self off and help others more to keep others from asking questions. Mac however is trying to forge a connection with his newly discovered teenage son, luckily for him Shelby may have the key.
It's a slow burn, low drama, easy to get lost in, small town romance, with great friends and found family.

💕💕💕💕💕I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I read the first sentence of the book blurb, but I am so glad that curiosity got the better of me. This storyline was fantastic! It had my favorite grumpy/sunshine trope with a nice sprinkling of alpha/cinnamon roll/hero and single dad angst. The setting and circumstances combined with believable characters made this book a binge-worthy page-turner! 💕💕💕💕💕

A slow burn dual POV romance with likable characters who have had past experiences that have shaped them and are trying to figure themselves out.

It was a really nice read and a well written spicy romance. Great main and secondary characters.

I read the beginning of this story in a Valentine’s Anthology I had downloaded for free months ago and after reading the excerpt I was dying to get my hands on this story because it left me with many questions. One in particular. When I finally got my hands on this story not only did it have a Title change but the beginning of the story changed as well. But what Claire Wilder changed about the story I loved even more and it made the story that much better.

What would make a grown woman jump into the freezing cold Canadian water during early Spring? That has always been my biggest question in this story. It was one of the main reasons I needed this story after reading the excerpt. However, having a tumultuous relationship with a parent I now get it. No matter how hard you try you will just never be enough. You just get to a point in your life where you can’t take it any longer and you jump off the metaphorical dock (or not so metaphorical dock) and start to take your life back. I understood where Bryony was coming from.

I loved Bryony for diving into the water. Sometimes drastic times call for drastic measures and I loved that she did it. She is a hard worker and doesn’t expect the world to bend to her will just because she came from money. She has her own successful business and she was on a mission to find her grandmother. But that isn’t all she would discover.

Mac is the grumpiest yet kindest community loving man in this small Canadian town. He discovers Bryony when Stu spots her heading to shore. Mac of course had the same question I had. Why is there a woman in the cold Canadian water this time of year? And she was fully dressed! What Mac never expected was to feel a fierce protectiveness for Bryony. It was a feeling that he had never felt before with any other women.

Through their time together Mac and Bry discover they have a lot in common. Some of it from their personal baggage that they each carried from their pasts. Together they find a way to help each other with their guilt. They also discover what truly makes each of them happy. What makes each of them stronger and eventually they discover they are each other's missing piece. They have some help along the way that adds to the small town charm of the story. This is a must read for anyone who loves small town, grumpy/sunshine stories. It is a standalone and you won’t regret it.

In the book "Here & There," author Claire Wilder writes a captivating tale of love, redemption, and self-discovery set in a picturesque coastal town. The story follows the journey of a successful, yet overworked Shelby who takes an unexpected plunge into the ocean to escape the confines of her demanding life. Little does she know that this impulsive act will lead her to a chance encounter with the charismatic Mac, who rescues her from the clutches of hypothermia.

As the narrative unfolds, we meet Mac, grappling with the newfound responsibility of fatherhood to a distant teenager. While also trying to elevate and run a successful beachside bar. This adds a depth and complexity to his character. Meanwhile, the undeniable chemistry between Shelby and Mac sizzles on the page, drawing you into their blossoming romance. The comedy that ensues just adds to the compelling nature of the story.

What sets "Here & There” apart is its blend of humor and heartwarming moments, it kept me engaged from start to finish. The witty banter and playful dynamics between Mac and Shelby bring the story to life, while the challenges they face – both individually and as a couple – add layers of intrigue and emotion.

As Shelby and Mac navigate the hurdles of their budding relationship, they must also confront their own past traumas and familial conflicts. Shelby’s strained relationship with her overbearing parents adds a compelling subplot, underscoring the theme of personal growth and forgiveness. Amidst the idyllic setting of a beachside bar and the bustling energy of tourist season, Shelby’s proposition to assist the Mac in promoting his business sets the stage for a delightful and sometimes chaotic partnership. Together, they embark on a journey of self-discovery, learning to let go of their past insecurities and embrace the possibility of a future together.

"Here & There" is a poignant reminder that love has the power to heal old wounds and transcend life's obstacles. With its charming characters, engaging plot, this book had me hooked from start to finish. I love how Mac realized what he really wanted and set out to solve any challenge or obstacle that Shelby thought might be there. This will not be my last read for Claire Wilder and I thank her for writing such a beautiful and engaging story.

Here & There by Claire Wilder is a delightful grumpy-sunshine romance that will leave you with a smile on your face. The story follows the unlikely relationship between Nora, a sunny and optimistic woman, and Ethan, a grumpy and reserved man, as they navigate the challenges of a long-distance relationship.

Wilder's writing is engaging and easy to read, with well-developed characters that feel authentic and relatable. The dialogue between Nora and Ethan is witty and charming, and the gradual progression of their relationship feels natural and believable.

One of the strengths of the book is the way Wilder explores the challenges of a long-distance relationship. The author does an excellent job of capturing the ups and downs, the moments of connection and the moments of frustration, that come with being in a relationship with someone who lives far away.

Another highlight of the book is the supporting cast of characters. Nora's friends and family are a delightful bunch, and their interactions with Ethan add depth and humor to the story. The author also does a great job of creating a sense of place, with vivid descriptions of the settings that transport the reader to the story's locations.

While the book is a romance, it also touches on deeper themes, such as personal growth, overcoming fears, and learning to trust. Wilder handles these themes with a light touch, never letting them overshadow the central love story.

Overall, Here & There is a charming and engaging read that will appeal to fans of contemporary romance. With its well-drawn characters, witty dialogue, and exploration of the challenges of long-distance love, it's a book that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

Shelby, the female lead, has felt estranged from her family for a very long time. She’s desperately tried to win their approval, being successful in business, to no avail. Struggling with dissatisfaction with her life, she decides to pursue her interests by jumping into the water and swimming to the next island where she believes answers lie.

Mac, the male lead, lost family in a boating disaster years ago, so when his son brings him a half-frozen woman out of the ocean, he panics. Once he confirms she’s ok, he’s now left to deal with an extremely unwanted attraction.

Both Mac and Shelby have had significant past losses of family that continue to impact their lives. Mac is also struggling with helping the son he didn’t know about adjust to life with him. Shelby has no intention of staying on Mac’s island but maybe they can be of mutual benefit to each other?

This story is dual POV, well written, and an emotional, contemporary small town romance, with two lead characters who are both trying to sort themselves out. I enjoyed the character development of both lead characters, as well as several secondary characters. I enjoyed the slow relationship development that was totally appropriate for where they started. I enjoyed Shelby’s building of new life goals for herself. I enjoyed Mac’s slow opening of himself emotionally. I enjoyed Mac’s son’s emotional development and connection with them both.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

Everyone needs a guy like Mac in their life. Sweet and considerate but also ready to turn up the heat with a woman he can't get enough of.

Bryony Jones has had all she can take after another attempt to please her parents fails. That's when she takes a drastic step, literally jumping into the ocean. Reinventing herself is all great but now she must figure out who Shelby is without all the pressure she was under from a barely acceptable boyfriend, parents who hardly acknowledge her existence, and her stressful consulting compay.

While Mac is stressing over the recent addition of a teenage son he can't believe his eyes when a woman suddenly washes ashore outside his restaurant. While he's trying not to notice the way his body is responding to her the woman becomes distraught and Mac finds himself agreeing to a plan he isn't sure he's ready to follow through with.

Can Shelby find the happiness she's been searching for in Redbeard Cove or will the job she's always been so passionate about pull her back to the city?

And while Shelby is learning how to relax and take one day at a time she also has an ulterior motive for being in Redbeard Cove.

I received an ARC and freely offer this review.

I definitely have to admit that of the three books I’ve read by Claire Wilder, “Here & There” has become my new favorite! There was just something about Mac and Shelby’s love story that made me want to keep turning the page.

Their relationship was extremely well-written, and their chemistry was fiery and instantaneous from the very beginning. Mac was definitely the grumpy to Shelby’s sunshine, but it worked for them.

I loved how obsessed Mac was with Shelby, and the way his eyes never left her when they were in the same room. I also loved him because of the effort he put into taking care of and trying to get to know his fourteen year old son, Nate.

Even though Mac had only recently discovered that he was a father, he was willing to go above and beyond to try to build a relationship with his son.

And Shelby! She was such a genuinely kindhearted person, and I loved her gentle soul and sassy nature. Shelby had a lot going on in her life, but she was strong enough to survive it all.

Shelby was the kind of woman who brings joy to everyone around her. I loved that she was willing to break down Mac’s walls and that she worked hard to earn Nate’s trust, even before she and Mac got together. I really enjoyed this book, it was absolutely a 5 star read for me!

Well I really was just taken on the ride of my life and completely blown away in all the best ways. Claire once again nailed it and delivered one of the most beautifully written and emotionally charged love stories I’ve read this year . Here & There is a grumpy sunshine , single dad and slow burn romance that without a doubt will play on all your emotions in ways you won’t even be expecting. Mac and Shelby have not had the easiest of lives . Both have demons and pain they are still struggling with on a daily basis . But the second they meet you can feel the undeniable chemistry between them . They find each other at the perfect time . It was so beautiful to see how they help each other heal and open their hearts to the possibility of love again . prepare yourself for all the feels and definitely keep the Kleenex close by because there will be moments you’ll find yourself utterly speechless, moments you may even yell outta pure frustration, you’ll smile , you’ll laugh out loud , you’ll cry like a baby and you’ll be rooting so freaking hard from start to finsh .i simply loved every single second of this amazing story .

Claire Wilder is one of my favorite authors, and she gives us another book full of love and angst to enjoy! Shelby has her own business that is doing well, but nothing is enough for her parents. She tries again for her mother's birthday and is again rebuffed. Her dopy boyfriend likes her parents more than he likes her. She has a major meltdown and swims to a nearby island (north of Vancouver). She is severely hypothermic by the time she gets there and is rescued by Nate, Mac's son. Mac is our lovely cinnamon roll hero. There are reasons for all the chaos, which Claire unspools for us over the course of the book. We learn along with Mac and Shelby as they discover each other's losses and trials and fall for each other. There are heartbreaking touches that bring the story to life. The swim seems to re-set Shelby's life, as does Mac's grumpy but persistent care. And she helps him through his losses and wounds, and with Nate. There is a third-act separation, but we know they will somehow find their way back to each other. This is one of the most intricately written and heartfelt books I've read this year.
I received an ARC from the author and left this review voluntarily and happily.

First let me say I loved the Quince Valley series and when I saw this new book I jumped right in.

Sadly, this was lacking for me. Let me explain...

I started this book 3 different times before I managed to get past the second chapter. It started off so slow and wordy rambling on about things that really made no difference in the books story line or character development. I understand we were getting a back story for Shelby but the story felt incomplete and yet way more than needed at the same time.

Spice? NO! I was more than 60% into the story before they even kissed. And several chapters later before anything beyond that. Not that I need the spice but without it this book really did move at a snails pace.

I wasn't overly invested in either character and having just finished it I still am hard pressed to recall anything really memorable other than her jumping off a dock. If you like taking a sentimental journey full of fluff and light Angst then you will probably enjoy this book. I need more angst or more spice or more touch her and I'll unalive you vibes. This had nothing remotely close to any of these separate or together.

Having read most of Ms Wilders books in the past and fallen in love with all the characters I knew this one was special too. Mac is the loveable grump with a heart as big as his biceps, he loves his town, his friends and Nate the teenage son he never knew he had till he turned up. He was indeed a special man and it will need a special woman to match him and he’s found that with Shelby she is witty, sweet, intelligent, kind but running away from overbearing parents and a loveless and forced relationship. Their chemistry is instant but decide to be friends only but you know that when they get together they will be explosive. Both have suffered loses in their past. They were good for each other for different reasons, this book pulled at the heartstrings, ( loved how she would write to her sister)reading this just felt like being wrapped around in a warm blanket in-front of a fire but also left you needing a cold shower. 🥵. Loved the narrative, the humour, the friendships and the steam. A beautiful love story with wonderful MCS.

Here & There was not what I was expecting, it was better. Ms. Wilder gives us two people who are lost, to an extent, living a life that was not what they had hoped for. This grumpy/sunshine story will grab your attention right from the start with the storyline and terrific characters.
Shelby and Mac together are two souls that were made for each other. Shelby needs to get away from her life for a while after receiving news that shook her as well as the disaster of a surprise party for her mother. She does pick an unusual of getting away from it all but in the end, she meets Mac. He is a grumpy cinnamon roll single dad who is trying to be a new dad to a teenage son while at the same time running his small-town bar. He tries to keep his grumpy mask on but it slips and the real Mac comes out and he is the ever so sweet and protective alpha male that makes you swoon. Their chemistry was instant and they fought it until they no longer could.
Here & There is a brilliantly written, page-turner romance that I recommend adding to your library.

I've yet to come across a Claire Wilder book that didn't steal my heart, and this one was no different. Shelby and Mac felt incredibly authentic, navigating their traumas and family dynamics with raw honesty. Shelby's struggle to meet others' expectations, coupled with her grief over losing her twin and the pressure to keep her relationship afloat, struck a chord with me. When she finally took a stand, quite literally plunging into the ocean, I couldn't help but root for her.

The slow-burning romance between Shelby and Mac kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering if they'd ever bridge the gap between them. And when they did, the chemistry was electric. Mac, the quintessential grumpy single dad in a sleepy coastal town, may have initially rescued Shelby, but it was evident that they saved each other in countless ways.

What truly made this book shine was its setting, colorful cast of characters, and the delightful humor woven into every chapter. As I closed the book, I found myself hoping this wasn't the last we'd hear of the charming inhabitants of this coastal haven.

After reading Here & There, my heart is whole, and I can't stop smiling when I think of Mac and Shelby. Their story is heartwarming, and I can't recommend it enough.

Its splashing start should have told me I was in for a soul-mending journey. Shelby's vibrant take on life is refreshing, and so is her realization that she needs a change. She is done pleasing others, working 24/7 to build a company and prove to others that she is worthy. She lightens the room and is simply brilliant. She also knows how to read and deal with people.

Mac is larger than life, not only because he is tall and has grumpiest demeanor. He is rough around the edges but has the biggest heart in his small Canadian town and surrounding areas. Overly protective, he is trying to build a relationship with his teenage son, Nate, while learning to parent.

Everyone needs a Mac and a Shelby in their life—I know I do! Their communication and understanding of each other are couple goals. The way Mac is with Nate? Swoony. Shelby's enthusiasm and joy? Infectious. Ok, I'm in love with them, their love, their small town... basically with everything in their story.

Here & There is now my favorite Claire Wilder book. It is also a 2024 top read. It is a gem.

Here & There is an absolutely fabulous small-town romance. Mac and Shelby are very realistically drawn lead characters, battling their own inner demons while keeping up appearances. Brought together by circumstance, they immediately click and turn out to be just what the other needs to be complete. I loved their interactions, the dialogue, the sexy times, the struggles, the making up and the well-deserved HEA. They had me smiling, laughing, tearing up and cheering. Their story is a standalone that I sincerely hope will turn into a series starter, not just because of the wonderfully described beautiful setting on the Canadian west coast. But also because there are at least half a dozen unique side characters who deserve their own stories and HEAs too! A keeper for sure, I can't recommend highly enough.

Shelby and Mac’s story was such an emotional ride with fun banter woven in and I devoured every second of it. Shelby has spent her whole life trying to get the approval of her parents and with one last effort that goes awry she is over it. The last minute decision to take a temporary break from her every day life wasn’t one she spent a lot of time thinking over she literally dives in head first and she isn’t expecting the ride her life is about to take. Mac is a single dad that carries the weight of a lot of regrets on his ginormous shoulders, but he is such an amazing person that is willing to help any and everyone especially those he loves. The push and pull between these two will have you falling head over heels in love with them and watching as Nate comes around to his dad and Shelby will melt your heart. This story is full of surprises and watching Shelby go after what she wants and seeing Mac finally go after her is the icing on this romance cake.

I have fallen in love with these characters. I really enjoyed Claire’s Quince Valley series & once again she has outdone herself with Redbeard Cove.
The first couple of chapters I wanted to throw my kindle, after Mac & Shelby’s meet/crazy, (my description of their meet/cute) I was pretty much hooked! With Shelby’s eagerness to please & perform & Mac’s need to make people’s life better & self-imposed loneliness & both of their family loses, they were perfect for each other. I love a boy obsessed with a curvy woman!! My favorite way to describe a book is through tropes & micro-tropes, I meantioned boy obsessed & curvy FMC but we also have single dad (who just found out he has a teenage son), deadbeat baby momma, grumpy/sunshine, family trauma (both sides), small town, coastal town, 2 driven entrepreneurs, wonderful & questionable supportive characters & of course, a little bit of history & mystery. I’m so excited for more from Redbeard Cove.

This book I was very excited to read because I love a good single parent book and with there being a grumpy and sunshine characters made it all the more interesting. This book has you laughing one minute at the characters bickering. Then crying and cheering them on through the obstacles the two characters face together but also as they’re working through their past. Shelby is the kind of character who basically full of sunshine and doesn’t let Mac keep the walls up that he tries so hard to keep up. The other big takeaway is while Shelby is tearing down Mac’s walls she also made sure bonded with Nate before anything went further with Mel. I cannot wait to read what Claire comes up with in the future. Thank you for giving me a chance to read this great story that is about redemption and finding yourself when things unexpectedly happens or you wake up one day and want something more. So give this a chance and read Shelby, Mac, and Nate’s story.

Charming, sexy and funny
Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2024

There were a few times while I was reading I had to hold back my laughter. This happens when I’m reading in bed at night and hubby is sleeping. And then there is the writing that stands out unlike other rom coms.

“It’s like I’ve got an instrument in my chest and he just plucked a string.”

And

“ I think there are some people who look at us and only see the things we’re insecure about. They use those things as…footholds to walk all over us to make themselves feel better. To exert power over us. Those people are generally miserable and make us feel like we need them, when really, they need us.”

Lines like those are what makes a book stand out from others. The characters are easy to love and get lost in. Two thumbs up for me.

This was not only my favorite Claire Wilder book to date, but also one of the best books I have read in a long time! It was refreshing to move away from the usual romance tropes and read a completely original story. The characters were perfectly written: Mac is a single father of a teenager and Nate is the quintessential "stay in my room teenager". It was easy to picture the two of them struggling to live day to day in the same house. Shelby was both the perfect contrast and compliment to Mac and Nate.
The theme (and title) of "here and there" is woven throughout the story in very clever ways. And let me just say that the ending was the best ever!
Claire Wilder is a wonderful writer and this story is an absolute 5 stars! I would definitely recommend it!

I fell in love with Mac and Shelby! Mac lost his mother to a terrible boating accident where he was actually a hero and saved a bunch of people as only a teen. Mac is also a single father to a troubled teen. Nate is having troubles at school and he was abandoned by his mother. Since Mac only found out a short time ago that he had a son he wasn’t there for Nate growing up.

Shelby is a twin but she lost her sister many years ago. It’s not bad enough that she lost her twin she also lost her mom and dad. They couldn’t deal with the loss of a child and her father threw himself into work so much she never saw him. Her mom became depressed and stayed in her room and cried all the time and became very distant from her daughter that was left behind.

These two lost souls find each other in the most unusual way ever. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I totally would!!

Sometimes we need to jump to put our lives into perspective. For Bryony, this was the case as she tried her hardest to give her mom a birthday to remember. However, things did not go according to play and she has had enough. When she jumps into the water her life changes in the strong and masculine Mac. Mac has had a lot to deal with and raising his son for the first time seems to be a challenge as well as making sure his place grows. When he meets Bryony he knows he's not about to let her go. They embark on this friendship first that grows into more. But when push comes to shove and she has to make decisions will she leave behind the two people who melt her completely? I loved this story of growth and warmth with not just Bryony, but Mac and his son as well.
