O'Hares Ranch

Rate this book
Life was simply life before I emailed a cowboy named Andrew Dawson.

Since graduating college, I’d fallen into a cycle I was so stuck in, I didn’t realize I was in it. Work eight hours, have a glass of wine, and fall asleep to reality TV. I just rinsed and repeated every single day.

But then the case of the strawberry cow happened.

What started as a simple mission to educate my students, turned into the world’s longest game of cat and mouse.

For five years, the ranch owner and I have been unable to do anything about the growing attraction that bloomed between us on my first trip, a reason or two always keeping us at bay. But for every one of those years I went to his ranch, I discovered more about the life I’d been missing. Realized what it was to find home.

I was happy again. Alive. There was only one thing I still didn’t have.

Luckily, it seems as though this Easter, I may finally get it.

But only if I can find the golden egg before he catches me.

Hey there! My name is Lee. I like to think of myself as a bibliophile who belongs to the Ravenclaw house.
I write romances that can sometimes be sweet and spicy or deadly and kinky. I'm a firm believer in happily ever afters and men who always make sure their woman is satisfied first.
When I'm not writing, I'm drowning myself in a good book, losing track of time on the Nintendo Switch with my kids, and laughing or yelling at one of my husbands practical jokes. (He likes to leave fake spiders and roaches around.)
Also, something important to note. I live off Chai and Dean Winchester.

“Oh wow.” She sighs, and it’s dreamy and full of contentment, making my chest tighten. “It’s beautiful.”
I nod, my eyes never leaving her face. “It’s a masterpiece.”

Quick read with a school teacher h and a rancher H, both likable. I loved that the h initially arranges to visit the H's ranch with her class to pettily show up one of her five year old students, who's undermining her authority over strawberry milk. The H came across as kind but with a confidence and BDE I was digging. The chemistry was definitely present from their first meeting and I liked that they did seem to fit each other well personality-wise too.

I struggled with the time gaps in this read though, they were unnecessary imo and if the main characters were serious about pursuing each other, the H and h easily could have reached out to the other outside of connecting on her class visits to his ranch. This made it feel less like right person, wrong time and more that neither was willing to put in the little bit of extra effort. When they do finally get to the right moment, it then felt like insta-love since both suddenly want forever despite minimal interactions over the years. I don't want this to be a negative review, but I also felt like the shibari elements were glossed over. Rope and bondage are definitely incorporated, but some of the beauty of shibari with the intricate knots and how long it takes to set the scene didn't feel as present for me.

I did love the epilogue and the story ended on such an excellent note with them down the road a few years, happily married with one kid and another on the way. I don't know if I need to pause this series for a while since as it's gone on, I've tended to nitpick what didn't work for me more than gush about what does in these books. I do appreciate though that the heart of this series has stayed the same with the different holidays, the variety of kinks, and the novella format.

Written in first person, dual POV. No ow drama, small om moment when an om hits on the h later in the book and the H shuts it down hard, and neither are virgins (when h first meets H, she's in a relationship; no mention of H over the years but then later it's mentioned that it had been a long time for the h).

mini blurb — ✍🏻
Miss Cassidy got a thing for the owner of the ranch where she books an annual field trip with her preschool class. The timing is always wrong but finally, after 5 years they put an end to this game of cat and mouse, or more accordingly, of rigger and bunny. (hehe)

This was a cute short read and perfect for a cowboy romance era ✨
Istg this could have been a full length romance and I'd eat it up in 2 days top.

Since this is fiction and a novella, I'm gonna believe that this is the case of the right person at the wrong time.

Andrew and Harper met through her class visit to his ranch. They only emailed and met once a year, and this has been going on for the last five years.

After five years and school's break, Harper decided to go to the ranch and help her friend. Andrew thought this was the right time to finally make her his.

Anyway, it's ridiculous if you're going to think hard about it. They only interact once a year, and yet, for some reason, they feel things for one another that they never had before. Then, after their missed chances for half a decade, they're more than ready to officially give them a chance. 🤷‍♀️

Overall, it was okay and a very quick read.  But I wasn't invested in it and the time jumps were too much. 🥲

Book info:
- Novella
- Righ person, wrong time
- Time jumps (5 years)
- Cowboy x City girl
- No cheating, owd, separation
- No Vs (no idea what they've been doing the last five years)
- OMD (she had a bf the first time they met, and another om danced with her)
- Bondage
- HEA (5 yrs later, married with a daughter and a son otw)

Actually it was really good but extremely short to have a higher rating , I wouldn’t mind if this was a full length novel there was a good potential to be one. But I appreciate it for being enjoyable because i am in the worst reading slump in my life. Tie me up cowboy.

Can I get a YEEEEEHAWWWWW for this cowboy romance!!!??? Let’s hear it for a dirty talkin, boot scootin hunk of a cowboy who calls his girl all kinds of cute nicknames!!

I see you, Lee. My lil Texas girlie bringing that cowboy vision to life. My word, this one was so fun to read! and I have to admit I would’ve never before said there’s such a thing as a hot Easter egg hunt…but here we are, AND IM SAYING IT.

I loved the start of the story and then how it builds up to the present day. Whew. The slow burn was BURNING. The tension was building, and the flow of the story was done so well. Lee Jacquot is such a rockstar at writing novellas. This one did seem a bit more rushed in comparison to her others but it still was fun to read!

THE BARN SCENE WAS NEXT LEVEL. You can officially call me a rope bunny bc I’m hopin on over to read every book that has rope play 😚😚

✏️Review:
O'Hares Ranch by Lee Jacquot is a nice foray into contemporary western for her, aided immensely by her classic brand of spicy spice. In truth, most of my 3.5 stars are for the spice and the chemistry between the FMC Harper and MMC Andrew, when they FINALLY got together. It took them FIVE WHOLE YEARS. And honestly, aside from the first time they met when Harper had a boyfriend already, I really cannot see why in the 4+ years after they couldn’t find a time to make it work, if they were that attracted and intrigued by each other. So this definitely, for me, would’ve worked better with a lower page count and a tighter narrative timeline.

But like I said, I’ll take my whiskey neat, and by that, I mean I’ll take my cowboys with rope bondage. Always 😉

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

TW - cheating (sc on the FMC), heart attack (parent, mentioned)
CW - bondage, edging

Tropes - Easter novella, cowboy romance, cowboy x teacher, jealousy, possessive, Easter egg hunt, slow burn, novella, rigger x rope bunny

This was fun! I really liked how Cassidy (FMC) and Andrew (MMC) met. Cassidy is a Pre K teacher who wants to take her class to the ranch to prove to one of the children that pink cows don't make strawberry milk and tbh - fair enough. The MCs trade emails over the next 5 years with Cassidy bringing different classes to the ranch but timing is just not on their side from being in a relationship, to family emergencies, Cassidy and Andrew can't get their moment... until they do 😉😉

I have enjoyed all the holinight novellas so far - there is literally something for everyone; I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet

Scale:
⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite
⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪

🌶🌶 - mediocre at best
🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot
🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW

I’m a big fan of Lee’s Hollinight novellas and this one was no exception! I do wish there was more tension to go with the slow burn! That’s my only complaint! (That and I wish the safe word wasn’t so cheesy 😂)

I really liked Andrew and Harper’s story! 5 years worth of wanting that is bound to explode at some point and when better than on the dance floor 🤭

The rope scene 🥵🫠
His reasoning for buying her the boots (specifically reason 2!) 😉

Favorite moments:
“I want you. Now, tomorrow, next year. As long as you’ll have me.”

“And what is it you need, city girl?” “You, cowboy.”

“My greedy lil’ city girl. You think I’m going to let that rope soak up your cum? That belongs to me.”

We already know Lee Jacquot has my heart.

Her novella series is my passion. It is the air that I breathe😂

This one was again a masterpiece.

Andrew Dawson is a ranch owner, and Harper Cassidy is teacher who has been bringing her class to Andrew’s ranch for years on field trips..

There is this tension between them but their stars just never aligned. That is until she’s helping out on his ranch when it’s hosting an Easter Egg hunt for some kids.

They’ve got five years of tension that’s ready to be unleashed.. or tied down.. 🥵

✨Right Person Wrong Time
✨Real life Hoedown
✨I’ll give you a head start😉
✨I finally have you and you’re MINE

*These are not the official tropes.. but they are official to me.

O'Hares Ranch [Part of the Holinight Novella series]
Theses are all Holiday themed novella's in a series and also each book is a standalone

This book follow Andrew & Harper.. This book starts with flashbacks on emails that wrote to each other before they meet then we get some more flashbacks for a couple of years and then we how they end up together after years of flirting

Andrew is a Ranch Owner.. He is likes getting his own way and loves looking after the Ranch.. He likes helping out schools that want to have trips around his Ranch to learn new things.. He likes taking care of the people he loves in his life and he has a kinky side to him.. When he meets Harper for the first time he knows she is the one so everytime she comes to his Ranch on a trip is flirts with her.. He falls hard

Harper is a Teacher.. She is sweet but likes some kink in her life which she has not done in years because she has not found a guy that likes that kind of thing.. One day she wanted to prove that there is no cow that makes strawberry milk so she emailed Andrew if she can book a school trip to his Ranch and that's when they first meet which was love at first sight for both of them.. So nearly every year she would email Andrew to book a school trip for her class to his Ranch and that way she can get to see more of him.. The last trip she got close to the women that runs the tour and they became best friends so one day tammy needed her and harper said sure so she drove up to the ranch and that's when everything changed for her.. She falls hard

This book is packed full of:
⦁ Strangers to Lovers
⦁ Teacher/Ranch Owner
⦁ Cowboy/City Girl Trope
⦁ Hero knows what he wants
⦁ A bit of Slow burn
⦁ Cat and Mouse game
⦁ Easter Egg Hunt [Heroine try's to find a golden egg while the Hero try's to catch her]
⦁ Hot & Steamy with Outdoor play [in the back of hero's truck & in a Barn]
⦁ Kinky: Rope play, Some biting, Some pinching, Chasing, a bit of Edging, Bondage, Hero lets the heroine have a safe word
⦁ Praise [Good Girl]
⦁ Easter Theme
⦁ Forced Proximity
⦁ Protective Hero
⦁ Possessive Hero
⦁ Standalone but also a part of The Holinight Novella series

I really enjoyed the relationship between Andrew & Harper because they are sweet and made for each other.. i can't wait to read more books by this author in this series

”I’ve seen my share of beautiful things in this world. A night sky riddled with stars, the sun kissing the horizon at the first break of dawn, a field blanketed by a layer of fresh snow. But none of those have taken my breath away quite like the woman leaning on my fence, standing on her tiptoes, trying to grab an egg that’s too high for the youngin’ next to her.”

5⭐️
maybe i am biased, maybe i just haven’t read cowboy romance in quite some time, but this is by far my favorite a holinight novella. i was squealing the whole time.

”I look forward to seeing you. I’ll make sure I don’t miss you this time.”

i don’t know what she puts in her novellas, but they keep getting better and better. them seeing each other once in five years, the tension and longing? plus the way they are both obssesed with each other, especially andrew with harper.

“I know you have plans this evening, but I wonder if you could save me one of those dances?” “Of course.” “Good.”

“What’s that for?” “Wrangling up some cattle.” “Is that the only kind of rope you know how to use?” ”No.”

“Like anything you see, Mr. Dawson?” “I see what should have been mine five years ago.”

spice? off the charts. every book has different kink and every book does something to me! if i wasn’t a fan of certain kink i sure as hell am right now.

i think i died a little bit when i saw “lose control” by teddy swis mentioned. it’s one of my favorite songs. 10 points to lee.

“I hope he catches me before I can find it, and when he does, I’m going to give him whatever he wants.”

lee’s writing style and spice is superior, no one does it like her! i would easily gobble up 300 pages more of this novella!

“And what is it you need, city girl?” “You, cowboy.”

”It’s always that easy. It’s just up to you if you wanna get stuck in your head about it, or actually do something about it.”

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶🌶

What to Expect:

• MF cowboy romance (Easter themed)
• Ranch owner MMC
• KG teacher FMC
• Dual POV (First perrson)
• Cutesy emails 😍 (and I LOVE texts or emails in a book)
• Slow burn (because i'm a masochist when it comes to books 🫠)
• A kinky Easter egg hunt that ends up in one of them in ropes 🫠
• Rigger x rope bunny (that was the hottest scene ever! 🤌🏻)
• Edging (LOVED IT!!!)
• Hot af dirty talk (that is one filthy cowboy, and i'm here for it 🥵)

Quotes:

“I want you to see who is gonna fill this perfect cunt up until she’s dripping with my cum days later.”I give her collarbone a soft bite. “You ready for me to fill this needy cunt?”

“It’s like you were made to take my cock down this pretty little throat.”

“You think I’m going to let that rope soak up your cum? That belongs to me.”

“It’s important you know that, considering I plan on filling every hole in that stunning little body of yours with my cum.”

“I cannot wait to have this cunt wrapped around my cock, darlin’.” He curls his fingers again, petting a spot that makes my eyes roll back. “To feel it milk me for every last drop.”

“Do you know how many times I’ve pictured you like this, darlin’?” He tugs on the rope, the knot rubbing against my clit, making me moan. “On your knees, waitin’ for me, that perfect cunt of yours drippin’ wet?”

“You’re glistening. Is this all for me?”

He nods once, tipping his hat before walking toward the doors. “Enjoy the rest of your day, Harper.” I do, but the entire time, I’m trying to figure out why the hell I just turned down a cowboy.

I could almost make a pros and cons list for this read. Overall, I did enjoy it - it got me out of a 2 week reading slump so gold star for that! I love a story that By the time things got going though, I was definitely done with the push-pull of "missed chances".

I won't lie - a few of the moments involving were right over my head. I was tempted to stop and look up some of the named knots but didn't want to break my reading stride. I also wish the but we did the chasing thing in The Four Leaf so I guess beggars can't be choosers!

Speaking of, maybe time for a Four Leaf reread? <3

description

I went in blind with this book needing something different. I enjoyed it, capturing me instantly, was a slow burn at first and then went straight into angsty and hot. For a short book, the pace was great. It's a right-person, wrong-time scenario between a hot cowboy ranch owner and a teacher. It sounds strange but it actually worked.

Lee was clever with her descriptions of Andrew and Harper. Sure there was some for you to put together, but there was just enough for you to imagine what you wanted and fill in the gaps to make them appeal to you. Smart cookie!!

Shared POV, starts slow and then once you get to halfway, that's when the angst and spice starts and it was delicious. A book to look into and add to your tbr.

If you’re in your cowboy era, Read This Now!!! I’m completely obsessed with the vibes of this book. The setting of the ranch and the country bar just made me so giddy. Andrew Dawson runs the O’hare Ranch and Harper Cassidy is a Pre-K teacher who emails the ranch to see about scheduling a field trip. Well, that goes on for 5 years! Every year she takes her class and every year her and Mr Dawson flirt and they clearly have so much chemistry. Andrew calls her “darlin’” and I would melt every single time. This is a 106 page novella but it’s a SLOW BURN!!! They know each other are interested but nobody makes a move, until finally one does. Once the move is made I was constant smiles and blushing like crazy. The rope play🔥🔥🔥 I had all the feels reading this novella and I’m big sad it’s over.

Wello Hello! This is my first cowboy romance novel and it didn't disappoint me. I love reading a good holiday novella that has the perfect balance of humor, chemistry, and spice. Andrew is a gentleman during the day, but not so much at night. It was a lot of fun reading the book and it has changed the way I look at cowboy boots forever.
