Two commitment-phobes. One ridiculous plan. A decision that changes everything…

Riley

If a no-strings hook-up is required, then I’m the perfect guy.

When I meet Danny, I can’t believe my luck. A sexy wolf shifter who’s also a fireman? Who runs from relationships just as fast as I do? Sign me up.

The night that follows is one for the history books, and the best part? Neither of us is looking for a repeat.

That doesn’t mean we don’t see each other again. Without even realizing it, we become friends. Friends who do everything together.

Everything with Danny is perfect. But when I start to yearn for more from my hook-ups, I know something needs to change.

So, I come up with a plan. A genius plan. I sign up for an app that arranges anonymous encounters. No names. No faces shown.
No danger of pesky feelings getting involved.
What could possibly go wrong?

Danny

Unlike Riley, my desire to avoid a relationship has nothing to do with commitment issues.

Taking a mate would mean returning to the clan who betrayed me. I’d have to leave behind this life I’ve built, a life I’m very happy with. One where Riley occupies most of my free time.

Everything is going swimmingly until Riley tells me his plan. His genius plan, he calls it. He can’t see it for what I can – an idiotic idea that’ll land him in danger.
I can’t let him go through with it. My wolf won’t allow it. Problem is, Riley’s as stubborn as they come. Once he’s decided on something, there’s no changing his mind.

Not wanting him in danger, I realize there’s only one thing I can do. One thing that’ll keep Riley happy while also keeping him safe.

I can be his anonymous hook-up.
It’s idiot-proof. At least, it would be, if I wasn’t an idiot.

Turns out Riley isn’t the only one who should be scared of hooking up and realizing you want more.

Humility is the thrilling fourth installment in the Damned Connections series and can be read as a standalone. Featuring a wolf shifter x human pairing, heaps of found family, and only one bed, this spicy MM, PNR, friends-to-lovers romance will make you laugh and cry. Each book follows a different couple and has a guaranteed HEA.

Absolutely LOVED this!!!

✅ Takes place 5 YEARS after the last book - I was so happy that it wasn't going to be in the same time proximity as the rest of the books that I definitely would have done a Tom Cruise jump on the sofa celebration if I wasn't doing the bedtime routine with the kid 😂

✅ The mating bond happens before the 50% mark 🎉🎉🎉🎉

✅ Idiots in love

✅ When Danny realises his feelings he is ALL IN - yay for a Supe who knows his feelings and works hard to show them

✅ A conflict that isn't solely around needing to mate just because an enemy has tried to kill / threatened to kill them, although there is still a mortality element

✅ Badass Scottish wolf shifters - I do love a Scottish accent, plus there's going to be a spin-off with Finlay and I cannot wait for that

✅ The way childloss is handled 🥹 this is a really difficult subject for me to read, but it was done beautifully and I empathised with Danny so fucking much

✅ I cried so hard at multiple points - always a winner for me

✅ Danny and Ferry's friendship, and Sebastian's constant staking

Honestly could have kept reading about these two happily and I'm so excited for the wolf shifter books - I already suspect Calan will be my favourite, assuming he gets a book, but I don't know why...😂

Great end to this series and definitely my favourite Lark Taylor book so far.

here’s the deal: i loved this. i actually loved this. but i did consider rating this 1 star.
lark keeps using the same things in all of her books. it starts to feel like lazy writing. the craziest thing is that it was actually needed for this one. it made sense here. not the all the other times tho.

I feel blasphemous saying this, but I was disappointed with this final instalment in the series.

I've wanted to read Danny's story for so long, and Riley has been a favourite side character since Justice. But....

The story felt disjointed and pieced together with a formulaic and predictable plot. The pacing was all wrong with the telling of the MCs' backstory, the development of relationships between characters, scenes with the pack, and the eventual action/ third act scenes.

I thought the 5-year time jump at the beginning was a "choice." I would've much preferred some time to see Danny and Riley's friendship evolve as it starts off with them just being fuckboi mates hooking up with very little to show why and how they are supposedly eachother's person. Which I felt was told more than shown.

Danny's tragic backstory was mentioned in one paragraph and dismissed like, "I was devastated for a century, and then I moved on except for once a year." Again told, not shown. This was a devastating reveal surrounded by so much mystery and build-up over multiple books, but I was left thinking, "Is that it? Is that all you're going to give us? This is actually devastating, and Danny has kept this a secret from everyone?!"

Riley ended up at times being frustrating, selfish and unlikeable, and not the caring and loving friend we are told that he is. His character was written inconsistently with lots of contradicting qualities and behaviours. I couldn't work out who he was. Even Riley's backstory about why he is commitment phobic lacked depth and didn't hit my heart how it should have.

I expected the chemistry to be out of this world between the two, but it was let down with their strict roles and formulaic sex scenes. I was bored, like wtf is happening with that?

There's also a questionable part in the book around the theme of consent, which I think will be polarising e.g. Riley has anonymous hookups where he doesn't see their faces. Through a series of events, it ends up being Danny who fucks him twice! Unbeknownst to Riley. This is definitely going to stir up discussions about consent.

Lastly, something that has started to irk me about Lark's MC's is the repetitive use of terms of endearment. In Justice, Sebastian called Matty sweetheart more than I breathe fucking air! In Humility, Danny calls Riley Princess every second fucking word! The only thing that's good for is a drinking game thanks very much! We get it, they're mates, but FFS.

Positives: The Lark humour was still great, Danny is a wonderful character, and the epilogue was super sweet.

I love Lark books so it was so hard for me to admit I wasn't enjoying it. Maybe it was all the hype. Maybe it was my high expectations. Maybe it actually wasn't a great book?! One not so great one in a great series is still ok right?

So, for me now the series has ended, I would rank them like this:
1. Patience
2. Temperance
3. Justice (very close tie between Temperance and Justice)
4. Humility.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I loved Danny and Riley's friends-to-lovers romance. It has so much heart, these two have so many layers and I could not have predicted how their story unfolded. As with every entry in this series, I was shocked at some of the character moments that gave me so many feelings.

Danny and Riley are adorably clueless throughout their story and I was so happy when they finally woke up and acknowledged their shared attraction, love, and care for one another.

Overall this is a wonderful ending for this series while leaving many loose threads that I cannot wait to explore. It was fun getting more backstory into the shifter world and I cannot wait to see these characters again.

Once upon a time, Matty had a birthday party and there, 2 fuckbois did what fuckbois do best - hooked up, no strings attached. They each have a one-and-done rule as a result of past traumas. However, they also laughed and talked, forging the beginnings of a deep connection.

Fast forward 5 years and Riley + Danny, whom we met in Patience, are now best friends. More than that, they are fairly co-dependent, each relying heavily on the other for various things. Danny loves to spoil Riley with clothes and outings. Riley keeps away from Danny anyone who may want a relationship and shops for his groceries. They both provide the other with an emotional connection...so much so that these idiots don't realize that they are basically in a relationship with one another, even if they hookup with others.

Danny is the first to realize that his feelings for Riley are more than friendship, though he tries to hide it...the jealousy and possessiveness starts to come out and Danny's wolf is closer to the surface. Gah - I love Danny!

This book was such the emotional roller coaster: not only do these two idiots grow to realize their feelings for one another, but we also learn of the heartbreak each suffered. And when they travel to Danny's clan lands, tension and excitement follow. We meet clan members Finlay and Logan, (Logan is adorable - does he get a book?).

This has been an amazing journey through this series (so many tears ^ emotions!) - I definitely recommend both this book and the series! I'll be going back to read the author's other series as well & am already excited for Finlay's forthcoming story and the start to another series set in this universe!

What to Expect:

* wolf shifter MC + human MC
* idiots to lovers
* BFFs to lovers
* lots of cameos from characters in this series and others
* Princess
* mates
* so many sexy times
* the most amazing found family
* moving on from loss/trauma

Thanks to Lark Taylor & The Author Agency for this ARC - this is my honest opinion.

Lark. Lark Taylor. Lark Elizabeth Taylor. (I just picked a middle name for her idk what her middle name is.) What will it take for you to not make me cry? Is it something you enjoy? I’m not a pretty crier. I never have been. You like making me look ugly? You like making me fall in love with your characters and then ripping my heart out and look ugly because I have to cry over these sad back stories. You don’t even feel sorry at all.

I love being dramatic.

Okay so there is some truth to that. 1: I am an ugly crier. 2: There is sad backstories to this. But are you even surprised? This isn’t Ferry level sad to me, rest assured, but my god is it sad. Let me just start at the beginning.

Danny is our resident wolf shifter. He left his clan over 150 years ago due to something very bad. He would only come back to his clan if he took a mate (wolves choose their mates. It’s not a fated mate thing, which is honestly insane to me, but I was rolling with it). Riley is our resident fuckboy with commitment issues. He also has a sad backstory as well. Double whammy on the sadness. Danny and Riley are besties. Extreme besties. Very codependent besties. Codependency is one of my favorite tropes honestly. The possessiveness is big in that trope with humans, but throw in the fact that Danny is a wolf? Possessive x10. Amazing. Anyway Riley and Danny are all about the hookups. Not with each other. Although they did hookup years ago. And it was amazing, but they don’t talk about it because it was a one time thing. Also side note this takes place 5 YEARS after the end of the last book. I was not expecting such a time skip. It works but wow. Moving on to the hookups. Riley had a hookup with someone where he thought there could be something more, and he was like no way José we aren’t doing that. So his brilliant idea? Have sex with strangers. Total strangers. Like he will be face down ass up waiting and the stranger will come in and have sex with him and leave. They’ll never see each other or talk. Can you see why Danny couldn’t allow that? So Danny’s brilliant idea is he will be the stranger. It’s totally fine! Riley will never know! And that is how our two stupid fuckboys fall in love. The end.

Okay so more stuff happens, but that is the start of them coming to learn their feelings for each other. And then something happens and now Riley and Danny are mated and they have to go back to his pack. Which is a disaster, but you guessed that.

There was a lot of fighting and drama in this as normal with a book from this author. It was great though. I always love the drama. This one is different though because they were mated before it all started, so it’s not like mating will save the day. This takes some good old fashioned killing to solve the problems. We love violence.

The sex in this was good, but I knew it would be. Lark never leaves me hungry. We literally get sex in the prologue. Talk about sucking you in from the get go. Hehe sucking.

If you read books by Cora Rose, some of her characters made an appearance in this. It was so fun. Talk about a multiverse.

This book marks the end of this series. I’m so sad for it to end, but so so so excited for her to start her angel series. That first book will be so good I just know it.

Humility is the fourth book in the Damned Connections series. This friends to lovers MM PNR romance story is about Danny and Riley. We first met both of these boys in Patience (book one). Danny was the wolf shifter friend of Leo's, and Riley was the human friend of Leo's brother Matty. I immediately was drawn to Danny's character and couldn't wait to get his story.

Danny and Riley are introduced to each other at Matty's birthday party. They hook up and both agree it will be a one time thing. Afterwards, they end up forming an incredible friendship. They do everything together and soon become the most important person in each other's lives. They both don't realize they are basically in a relationship together, except for not being physically intimate. Danny and Riley both have their reasons as to why they don't want to be in a relationship. Danny can’t take a mate and Riley wants to avoid catching feelings. It isn't until several years into their friendship that Danny starts to question his feelings for Riley.

I absolutely loved Danny. My heart broke for him and everything he had been through in his past. When Danny comes to terms with his feelings for Riley and makes it known he wants more, I admired how incredibly patient he was with Riley. My heart went out to Riley after learning what he went through growing up with his mother. I could understand his fear of being in a relationship, but I admit I grew a bit frustrated with him at times. I tried to be as patient as Danny, knowing these two were meant to be together.

I enjoyed Danny and Riley's love story. It was a wild and emotional ride that had me laughing and crying. I especially loved all of the sweet and spicy moments. The found family in this series has been so wonderful, and I enjoyed all of the cameos we got of previous characters. We also were introduced to new characters and got to meet some very interesting wolf shifters from Danny's pack. I hope we will get to see more of them in the future. Humility was a perfect ending to an amazing series!

I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

A Swoony Smut fest 🥰🔥
A Paranormal romance b/w Wolf-shifter & Human where a hookup leads to friendship & so much more; a story filled with cute teasing, idiotic ideas, friends who are basically *together*, ALL THE FEELS with plenty of laughs & tears, bloody action, Pack politics, & sweet HEA.
Danny & Riley are SO much fun, I love them. This world is amazing, the cameos are adoring. I devoured my #ARC in 11hrs!

Danny is Leo's bestie & a firefighter. He's an Alpha wolf-shifter who has experienced heavy loss & betrayals. D's playful, humorous but also protective, thoughtful & possessive.
Riley is Matty's friend & an account's manager. He's a human whose childhood trauma shaped him. R's hardworking, stubborn, witty, caring but wary (of Love). I do love that R wears glasses 😁.

These 2 commitment-
phobes hooked-up & just... clicked, which led to their cute friendship! The prologue here was fun (& not sad 😳) but the surprise came afterwards 🤯. These 2 made me embarrass with their stupid ideas, laugh at their banter, swoon over D's patience (respect!) & their care, mature moments & talks; cry over their reasons for not wanting a relationship 😭 (TW). That action packed climax never misses 🔥🔥.

I liked to see Lark's spin on Alpha wolf lore. The story is hella good..& the smut...is freaking HOTT 🥵. D+R aren't that *much 😏* kinky but THEY LOVE SEX & it shows! This is the last book in this spin off #MustRead series & I'm gonna miss my babies 😭. I hope to see more of them in other series!! Also, books for Logan & Fin please ☺️. RTC.

Why so much smut?

I loved the first book in this series, I liked the second one and from then on this series became pure smut.

I'm not kidding, the first 35% of this book is pure smut after smut. Even at the end of the book, right before the prologue: smut.

Don't get me wrong, a good smut scene is fun... But this book had about 7 or more to much.

Can we go back to the recipe of the first book where smut existed but didn't take over the story please?

The story itself isn't that great either, basically they meet, have sex, become friends, huge time jump, remain friends but closer, mate and that's it. To be honest it was boring and the time jump was a mistake (we couldn't see the friendship development).

This was very promising. I thought ‘yes, this is going to be my favorite of the spinoff series!’

…about 45% in was where it all changed for me. And I’m gonna be honest, it’s because of Riley.

His back and forth got old REAL FAST. And some of the things he said or did….jfc Danny deserved better.

I am interested in the pack stories. Logan specifically, he reminds me of Harlow who is my favorite.

"He looked like he wanted to eat me alive. Like seeing me with another man had finally awoken something in him. Not necessarily something healthy, but I didn't give a fuck."

Whoa boy was this book H-O-T!! I should have expected it since the MCs of the book are the known manwhores of the group. Humility begins back when Riley and Danny first met at Matty's birthday party. We finally get to see what happens later that night and as I already said, it was HOT. These two have chemistry like you wouldn't believe, but true to their word, they both hold firm on their one night only rule. They just become best friends instead.

I loved how cute these two were. Their relationship was the definition of codependent. If they weren't at work or hooking up, Riley and Danny would be in each other's orbit. They were basically a married couple just without all the sex. Everyone knew it. Everyone but them. Both were content having each other as their person. And it worked for them. It worked for a long time...until it didn't.

"My wolf had claimed him as mine... even if neither of us wanted that."

A lot of things in this book broke my heart. Danny's past. Riley's reason for not wanting a relationship. Danny's reasons too actually. I hated anything that got in the way of them being together. I was even mad at Riley for a while being the stubborn shit he was. Much had to happen for our MCs to get their HEA. Broken hearts. A traumatic event. Danny's old pack needing to be dealt with, though I really enjoyed the visit and meeting the future MCs of Lark's shifter series. Fingers crossed for a book for Logan! Don't worry though. In the end Danny and Riley get the true HEA they absolutely earned, and I don't think they could have been any happier.

What a way to go out with a bang. This is by far my favorite of the series, with Ferry and Leo coming in a close second.

Danny is so much more complex than I think any of us thought he’d be.

Riley (Princess 😉) is just blind to their dynamic and how much he actually loves Danny. Even when he realizes it, he fights it.

Together they’re best friends and passionate lovers. I loved their friendship just as much as their relationship.

I know that this is a much anticipated series finale, and it hits as hard as we expected it to 🥹

I can’t wait to read Finlay’s book and dive into his world 🥹

I received a complimentary copy of this book but this is my honest and voluntary review🖤

”I’d choose you, Riley. Every. Fucking. Time. You can hate me for it, but that’s the truth.”

❥ Dual POV
❥ MM
❥ Paranormal Romance
❥ Friends/Idiots to Lovers
❥ Wolf Shifter x Human
❥ F*ckboi x F*ckboi
❥ Chosen Mates
❥ Codependency

I really have so much love for the idiots to lovers trope when it’s done right, and it definitely was with Riley and Danny. Two best friends who’re pretty much already in a relationship, just without being intimate, and being codependent on each other as fudge. They both have their reasons for not wanting a relationship, but Danny’s wolf is making it hard for him to ignore what Riley does to him, especially after Danny pretends to be Riley’s anonymous hookup, you know… to keep him safe.

I loved seeing all the supes and their mates in the book, and loved how protective everyone was of Riley. It definitely made me want to reread the previous books in the series.

I don’t want to say Humility is an angsty read, but it did have a lot of delicious tension with everything going on between Danny and his wolf shifter clan. You sit with the feeling of knowing something is coming. I also loved how this was the introduction to a new series coming, with Finlay’s story, who we meet while Danny is visiting the clan.

This book made me smile A LOT, but I almost cried a few times as well. Both Danny and Riley have some sad stories from their past, and Danny’s story especially hit me very hard. It was a wonderful journey to see them work out their fears and get on the same page, even with the interferences of stabby friends, shady wolf shifters and their own cluelessness in their way.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Omg I was not ok with this.

For those of you who’ve read Justice, you know that Riley and Danny hooked up at the end. This is 5 years later. Danny and Riley never had a repeat, but they’re BBFs now in a sort of unhealthy codependency. They’re both commitment-phobes but Riley takes it to the next level! While Danny is ok with a date and sex, Riley can’t even handle the date first, or having a conversation. Better yet, why not even avoid seeing their face first? 🤦🏻‍♀️ So what ends up happening is

This book had the potential to be so much and it really fell short for me. I want to be clear that this issue it most likely a ‘ME’ issue but it was something that I couldn’t overlook.

I was so excited to get Danny’s book and knowing it was going to be a best friends to lovers made me so excited and maybe I set my expectations too high.

I had one main issue which I’ll detail below with a spoiler warning. If I put this aside then it was a really enjoyable book and I enjoyed getting to know some fun new characters who I hope get a spin-off series of their own. The cameos of the OG characters was really good and I still absolutely adore Harlow.

*SPOILER WARNING
I took huge issue with one scene in particular. When Riley was chasing a rush and signed up for an anonymous sex app where you can get fucked without faces, he asks his best friend Danny to be in the house to make sure that he is safe. Not only does Danny take it upon himself to scare away Riley’s hook-ups but he then sneaks into the room and anonymously fucks Riley. And just to make things worse this happens more than once.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a well written CNC or DubCon scene but these were NOT IT. The absolute breach of trust within a friendship to do this to someone was unconscionable. And then when it all comes to light, there is no grovelling, no earning back of trust - they just move on.

I was provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another win for Lark🥹

I’ve been waiting for Danny’s story ever since Patience. The glimpses we got of him throughout then series were everything and I was anticipating to see how much more depth his character had! I had no idea what I was in store for.

Riley and Danny form a very intense friendship after meeting at Matty’s birthday party. They become almost inseparable and by being commitmentphobes, they are convinced that they don’t need anything else. After all, Danny can’t take a mate and Riley doesn’t want a relationship ever.

After years of friendship things start to slowly change, first for Danny but he tries to suppress it so they don’t lose their friendship. After the inevitable happens, neither of them have a choice.

In true Lark fashion this book was tear inducing, so keep the tissues at hand.
I would do absolutely anything for Danny in all his fluffy glory. The book was packed with all the emotions. The pain and the happiness were so well balanced!
Every time a new person joins this huge found family my heart becomes fuller! I would do anything to be a part of that inner circle and all its meddling members!

The cameos were nice little surprises and the scene with those two characters had me howling in laughter! Iykyk

This book was everything I wanted and more. Lark Taylor knows how to bring it with every single book. There’s just something so special with these characters she’s created and I can’t get enough of them. Learning Danny’s backstory was devastating, and of course I cried more than once while reading this one. I’m so sad that this series is ending but I’m hoping we see these characters in future stories!! Like always I can’t wait to read whatever Lark comes up with next!

I’m calling it. Time of death: 63%
Riley irritated me and I couldn’t deal with him anymore. I know they get HEA and it’s probably well deserved but I couldn’t stand him or his actions. I feel like I read enough to know it just wasn't for me.

Riley literally tells his MATE to go fuck someone else to "get over him." Uhhh, what? Like he isn’t already surrounded by supes that are mated, hell, his bestie is mated! He should know they literally cannot go and just fuck some random guy to get over you. Danny has even confessed his feelings and made it known he wants more, so this whole premise going on to jump someone else, just frustrated the hell out of me.

Riley doesn’t blame his mother for the trauma he endured as she was mentally ill, and mentions how she got help… but refused to do the same for himself? Okay? So your mother can get the help she needs to improve her quality of life and sense of self, but you can’t? He knows why he doesn’t want a relationship and knows it’s not normal. I get why he’s afraid but why hasn’t he tried therapy? Or shit, something at the very least.

This disappointed me greatly because I LOVED Danny so much and I wanted someone to love him from the get go. Ever since Justice and seeing him defend and be there for Leo at every step of the way just had me WAITING for his book and hoping he'd get the best mate ever, even with his clan bullshittery going on. I mean, I’m at 63% and Riley is still very much fighting the bond. It felt like this a lot with Matty and Seb, which caused me not to love it as much as Leo and Ferry (TOP TIER RIGHT THERE). I hate that there’s so much extra added in to keep them apart. I understand that having a mate bond doesn't make everything perfect and happy, but it's just the back and forth on Riley and his feelings that was aggravating me. "Go be with someone else." "No, you're mine." Like, just PICK one please?!

The random adding of characters from Cora Rose’s Colin was weird and felt completely unnecessary as well and felt very much like filler. I get that seeing them on calls is cool and all but the whole thing made me... cringe kind of once I realized who they were. I love that Lark fully supports her friendships with others and uses them in her stories a lot, but it makes me uncomfortable to see characters from another book, from another author I really don't like.

I received an arc and this is my honest opinion.

Ugh, Where To Start

This book was such a disappointment. I almost DNFd like eight times and that was before the halfway point. Where usually Taylor’s books are hard to put down, this one took a lot of effort for me to finish. I had such high hopes for Danny’s book. From the first book in this series, I was intrigued by Danny and curious about his own journey to a HEA. Danny and Riley were a complicated mix. I never felt any kind of draw to them or their relationship. It all felt like we were constantly being told that they enjoyed each other’s company and were each other’s “person” but I never felt like I saw that.

Danny’s past was a huge surprise to me. It was told with such nonchalance that I wasn’t sure I had even read it correctly. His whole history with his clan and family felt like an afterthought and once again, I felt like I was only being told how he felt and how it had changed him, not actually shown. It was hard to care or connect to his trauma and it made the entire plot of his pack drama feel boring. Honestly the whole thing just felt like a way for Taylor to introduce a new group of characters for future books and it soured the entire thing.

Ok now to the cringiest part that I still can’t get over. How did Taylor ever think the whole plot of Danny and Riley sleeping together again was OK????? It was so wrong and so gross and it was really hard for me to continue reading. Plus the way Riley constantly just shrugged away the super sketchy ways Danny took over his life was hard to read.

Honestly this book was a hot mess. Read Ferry’s book. Maybe read Sebastian’s. Dump the rest. Ugh.

The book starts at Matty’s birthday party where Danny and Riley meet for the first time!
The two fuckbois decide to have a one and done but don’t expect to really stay in touch.
5 years later they have a co-dependant friendship where they fulfil all of each other’s needs except sexual. Neither of them want a serious relationship so they are very comfortable with what they have, until Danny’s wolf starts being restless around Riley.

These two were ✨idiots✨. The sheer stupidity was so entertaining but it almost had me throwing my kindle against the wall a few times.
I found Riley to be a little bit too stupid at times but Danny was the most patient idiot so they balanced it well.

The book deals with a heavy dose of grief and trauma but it was mostly outside of the actual relationship. It was angsty as most Lark’s books but it was yet again a beautiful story! The found family keeps growing and I can’t believe this series is over!

4.5 stars. They are definitely on the same page, our human Riley and wolf shifter Danny, both do only no-strings and one-time hookups.
They have a super fun extremely hot night together, and both agree only once. But they’ll be friends after this because they fit so well, as friends of course.

There are a few facts you should know about. Riley doesn’t want to commit for certain reasons. Danny can’t take a mate because of certain issues.

Over the last five years, they did just that, being friends, best friends, with double dates, but always ending up together, friends… best friends. No commitments with anyone, only sex, and not with each other.
Tbh they put up with that to the extreme, Riley even more than Danny.

Oh boy I could feel it in the air, something disastrous was about to happen.
Feelings are changing, Riley is everything to Danny, Danny lost already so much, and if he loses Riley he will never recover from it, Riley can never know.

Riley has a master idea, he’s gonna invite guys only for sex, no talk, no meals, no nothing.
Danny and his wolf aren’t happy about it, so not happy!

And here we are, only at 40 percent of the story and a lot already happened.
Well, fasten your seatbelts for the rest of the story, because there’s a lot to come!

Riley’s stubbornness (read fear) was huge. Thank goodness they end up together.
The story is super hot, their chemistry is off the charts.
I got all the feels while reading, I enjoyed it very much!
The writing was flawless, the pace slow, the encounters scorching. This is a read that made me laugh, made me impatient, and made me tear up.

After a super hot hookup, commitment phobics Riley and Danny decide to just be friends. Neither want a serious relationship, yet both doofuses fail to realize that they're basically husbands who aren't physically intimate. A series of unfortunate and hilarious events leads our two idiots to realize that they don't need to be afraid to face the past head on when they're together.

Idiots-to-lovers is so popular lately, and Lark Taylor does justice to the idiots-to-mates subtrope. I really enjoyed the character development as Danny and Riley worked their way to their HEA. If I had one criticism it's that there was a lot that happened in this book and I felt like it could've been a bit longer to really do all the twists and turns of the story justice. However, as usual with Lark, I laughed, I cried, I placed a pre-order for the next 2 books... 😊

My favourite character from the series, Sebastian, made a few delightful appearances and reminded me why I adore him so much. Petition for Sebastian to show up in every single book moving forward!

What would happen when two fuckbois become friends? Feel free to ask Danny and Riley. They will tell you all about it. That they became best friends, super co-dependence, always there for each other through everything including kicking each other’s hook up out the door. But somewhere along the way, things changed. Like duh. We learned about Danny and his past trauma, like how he was betrayed by his clan and Riley and his trust issues he suffered as a child. I love the development between them and how patience Danny was….just there waiting for Riley no matter what. Also the nickname Princess, I melted. Def a good best friends to lovers story. I also love all the cameo from the couples from previous books in the series.

I did love the actions in the beginning and end of this book. However, it did slow down in the middle for me and dragged a little bit which makes me think it could have been shorter. From two fuckbois, I expect the spice to be spicier but people rate spice differently.

I’m sad this series is over. Will there be a Logan’s book? I really hope so.

Definitely one of my favorite series and always recommend.

I received an ARC for this for my review is my own.

There was really no chance of this being under five stars since I’m so down bad for this series and every single one of these characters.

Lark Taylor does it again!

This book had me SO EMOTIONAL at the mentions of Danny and his past 😖 Him and Riley are so wonderfully made for each other and I was glad to see them have their happy ending.

The friendship that formed between Logan and Riley was one of my favorite things. One of the reasons I love Lark Taylor is because she writes side characters and relationships so wonderfully and that continues to be the case after this book.

I NEEEEEEEED the rest of these shifter books yall I am so invested in Finn and Logan and Calan. I know it’ll be a minute but I just had to say it sooooooo yeah.

I love this series and the previous series and all of the series yet to come!!

I’m an absolute sucker for codependent idiots who don’t realize how in love they are with each other, and because of that I absolutely adored Danny and Riley’s story.

I didn’t think I could love anyone as much as I loved Ferry, but Danny came damn close!

i got the privilege of reading an arc of this book and this is my honest review ~

this was sooo good, i’m a huge sucker for friends to lovers at the best of times but lark taylor truly always exceeds my expectations. this book was gold per usual.
the jealousy and possessiveness just made it THAT much better, especially within this dynamic. 😍

“You’re mine now, Riley. No escape.” Now I was the one grabbing his chin. “I don’t want to escape, Danny. I want to be right here, with you. No one else. Ever.”

screaming, crying, throwing up!!!

✨ truly do yourself a favor and read this book ✨

⭐︎ 4.75 stars rounded up! ⭐︎

It's always so fun to do a buddy read with the lovely Lilly ❤️! We had so much fun discussing this one!

The 4th and final installment of this spin-off series - not to worry though, we're getting two spin-off series from this one, so still more supernatural men falling in love to look forward to 😊

Honestly, my only reason for this small .25 stars off is that we got one mention of an author (If you've read my past reviews, you know how much I dislike the random inserts of other MM authors and their works. It's so incredibly cringey and comes across like product placement). Buttt since it was only once, and it was just an author mention, not any titles of other books, I didn't give .5 off like I usually would do. This was almost author mention free and I loved that.

Other than that - and maybe Riley being a tad frustrating at times - I absolutely loved this.

I'd say it is second to Matty and Sebastian, or at least on part with Leo and Ferry, from the first book, tied for second place, I'm not quite sure how I'd rank these two couples after Matty and Sebastion.

But I do know they're hight up there for me.

Danny and Riley just fit together, and I was so invested in them as a couple. Their chemistry was really good and on point as well.

The two characters that were the most commitment averse fall in love with each other. That was such an interesting concept and I was excited to dive into this.

Riley, I would say, was the biggest commitmentphobe of them all. Which is understandable to a point, after we learn of his childhood and what he witnessed with his mother's continued relationship failings.

But he was so scared of anything real, anything more than just sex, and it takes awhile in this book for him to get past that and give into his feelings and love for Danny.

Danny was less so. His background, we learn, might have given him even more cause to be scared of relationships, but after 150 years or so, it was mainly just the fact that him taking a mate would mean he'd have to go back to his clan and take up his role as Alpha again that kept him away from relationships.

Once he opened his eyes to his feelings for Riley, and once these two became mates through unforeseen circumstances, Danny was all in. And he was already starting to realize feelings and come to accept them even before he and Riley became mates.

Riley just needed to see and believe that Danny would never leave him or hurt him by leaving him or losing feelings. Which he wouldn't, of course, but Riley has a hard time believing that for awhile.

That's the main conflict for about 2/3 of this, a little bit more. But then once they get to Danny's clan and the land where they live, it's about council members who still want power from Danny, who still want to try and kill him to gain the power of Alpha.

Riley and Danny, truly, are meant to live in the city with all the others from the first series and this spin-off series. They aren't rural, non-city boys at all. They are both pretty miserable in their small village near the woods, and Danny hates being Alpha.

But when the people who want to kill and hurt Danny for his Alpha status are gone - because of course they weren't winning against Danny, and his few trusted Betas who we get to know while Danny and Riley are there - there are no longer those to make up that rule that Danny had to be the Alpha of the clan once he had a mate.

So he and Riley are able to go back to their normal way of life after that, and were able to enjoy their HEA the way they wanted to, and we get set up for a new spin-off series with Finlay, the beta and real leader of the clan, as well as Danny's former right-hand man, as it were. I'm very curious to see what man will capture the heart of Finlay, especially when he also and still isn't entirely .

I definitely highly recommend this last installment of this spin-off series. I was waiting for Danny and Riley's love story and this did not disappoint. Now I cannot wait for the spin-off series with the werewolves and the angels.

Onto the next! 🥰

My Ratings for the Damned Connections Series:

Patience: 5 stars (my review)
Justice: 4.5 stars (my review)
Temperance: 3.5 stars (my review)

A huge THANK YOU to The Author Agency for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

”Riley had become my anchor. Losing him wouldn’t untether me. It would drown me”.

Lark Taylor strikes again!!! My obsession with Lark Taylor is no secret at this point, and I’m so grateful I was able to get an ARC for this book. It’s seriously one of my most anticipated books of the year! Danny and Riley are one of my most hyped couples of the series, and I’m so happy it’s finally here!

Danny and Riley are both top tier fuckbois completely adverse to romantic relationships of any kind. For Riley, his romance aversion is by choice. After watching his mother fall into one toxic relationship after the other, it’s hard for him to picture the existence of an HEA. For Danny, the fuckboi life is a necessity. When Danny left his pack a century prior after experience a horrific tragedy, he made a promise that he would return to the pack to lead as their alpha if he ever found his chosen mate. Easy enough, Danny decides to never take a mate. Problem solved.

After an explosive one night stand that they both have trouble forgetting, Danny and Riley fall into an easy friendship (more like best friends to the point of codependency). Years later, Danny starts to question if his feelings toward Riley are really as platonic as he originally thought.

While Temperance will likely always be my favorite Lark Taylor book (Toby & Blaise 4ever), Humility is definitely a close second. I initially picked this up wanting to savor every second of being back with these beloved characters…but I accidentally finished it in less than 48 hours. Oops! I loved absolutely everything about this book. While they both seem like stereotypical fuckbois on the outside, Danny and Riley are both such incredibly dynamic and complex characters. Danny’s backstory in particular really got me in the feels with its heartache and implications on Danny’s outlook on life. I liked that we got to watch them build a solid platonic foundation for years and then bumble their way through the transition into a romantic relationship. I was living for all the fun cameos we got of other beloved characters (especially Sebastian, Matty, and Leo).

One of my favorite things about Lark Taylor is the way she writes with such authenticity when it comes to emotions and the human (or supe) experience. This had so many heartbreaking moments, but also so many moments of healing and unconditional love (platonic and romantic). I really thought I was going to make it through this book without shedding a single tear, and then BAM! I hit the 95% mark and was SOBBING. Like ugly, dry heaving, sobbing...so basically 10/10 would recommend.

I'm so sad this series is over, but absolutely cannot wait to see what else Lark Taylor has in store for this universe!

I had so much fun reading Riley and Danny's story! These two idiots were completely oblivious to their own feelings, and their story was hilarious, frustrating and heart wrenching - in all the best ways.

I've had a soft spot for Danny ever since Ferry and Leo's story, so I was thrilled that he finally got his own book. He'd always seemed very happy and easy going, but there was a lot more to his character than that, and learning about his past was devastating. I loved all the support and love Danny had from Riley, but also the other supes and their little found family, even if no one knew the full story of Danny's grief and loss.

Danny and Riley truly belonged together, and I was overjoyed when they figured that out - even if it took them ages to get there. Both of them had been through a lot, and it was easy to feel invested and root for them. They were the biggest dummies when it came to their feelings, and it took some intervening from faith for them to finally see what the others had been seeing for years.

Their aversion to commitment made sense, but I didn't exactly love the choices either of them made in order to avoid it, especially the whole anonymous hookup thing. It was easy to see the motivations and thought processes behind their decisions though, and I was relieved when they started to communicate properly instead of running away and hiding. I was totally ready to help Riley burn down Danny's house for a while there...

Humility was a sweet and emotional read, and I loved the entertaining journey that these two took me on! There was enough angst to make me cry several times (just Lark doing Lark things), but also an incredibly sweet happily ever after to balance things out. I can't say that I'm the biggest fan of Danny's clan after everything that happened, but I have to admit that I'm very excited about Finlay's story and the spin-off series!
