It was supposed to be a simple stake out the golden boy hockey player Cole “Mac” Mackenzie as he exited the arena after a Los Angeles Blades game.
Follow him.
Get dirt on his personal life—something salacious to please the money-hungry gossip rag I worked for.
But I missed the moment Mac left the building. Or so I thought…
Twenty minutes later, I saw actual Mac exit after the media left. Apparently, he’d used a decoy to throw off the press—waiting until everyone left to make his getaway in private.
I started following the real Mac, and got more than I bargained for.
He led me to a mystery building tucked away in the middle of the suburbs.
Turned out, he was going to… a private club.
A club that wasn’t for the faint of heart—as I’d soon find out after sneaking in.
I wasn’t expecting to connect with Mac inside. Nor did I anticipate him to invite me back as his personal guest.
What started as a simple assignment turned into something much more—my biggest fantasy I never knew I had.
This wasn’t about the tabloid story anymore. I lied to my boss, told him there was nothing to see.
Meanwhile, I kept returning to the club.
I was addicted to unraveling the mysteries of Mac’s world.
Addicted to the man who lit a fire inside me.
But—with my own secret—it was only a matter of time before I got burned.

WHAT a standout debut!! I absolutely devoured this dual POV, sports romance with BDSM content. It was heartfelt, SPICEY AF and VERY much my vibe. Fans of 50 shades of gray will appreciate the BDSM content, although this was much better written overall.

I truly enjoyed this soooo much, especially as an audiobook narrated by Stephen Drexter and Andi Ardnt. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy!! I can't wait to read (or listen) to what this talented indie romance author writes next!!!!

The Player's Club is a steamy sports romance by debut author Fallon Greer. It features star hockey Player Cole Mackenzie a.k.a. Mac and reporter Elodie Andrews. Elodie works for a tabloid magazine and her latest assignment is to find some dirt on Mac. As she tails Mac, he unexpectedly leads her to a secret club that turns out to be a sex club named The Scarlet Rope. Intrigued, she manages to enter the club and what she finds there quickly turns from intrigue to fascination, especially when she meets Mac and founds out he's a Dom. As they get to know each other sparks quickly fly and then some.

This was a good debit novel. Was it perfect? No. There were some flaws that I couldn't look over but all in all it definitely wasn't a bad story. I really liked the chemistry between Elodie and Mac. They were instantly attracted towards one another. It verged a little on insta-love, which isn't exactly my favorite to read about but I didn't mind it so much in this book. I also enjoyed the very sexy and scorching hot romance scenes, especially when Mac introduced Elodie to some BDSM kinks. They were very well-written, in my opinion. My favorite scenes were when they both took each other on little dates to show each other their favorite things. Those were so sweet and cute. Both characters also had their own deeper and sadder backstories, especially Mac. And I really appreciated how Elodie supported him but also wasn't afraid to tell him that what happened to him wasn't okay.

Now there were some things that I didn't totally love. I'll start with Fallon having a boyfriend for around 30% of the story. He wasn't a bad boyfriend by any means, but he also wasn't anything super special. She didn't cheat on him and broke up with him before anything happened between her and Mac but it still didn't sit quite right with me. She did see Mac at the sex club while still being in a relationship with her boyfriend. I just felt a little weird about this particular aspect of the story. My next issue was probably the biggest I have and that was the fact that Elodie lied to Mac about being a reporter and having been assigned to find dirt on him, which was how she ended up in The Scarlet Rope to begin with. She just tells him she's a writer and nothing more. Of course when Mac eventually finds out he's mad and feels like Elodie has broken his trust, especially when the news does leak eventually that Mac frequents a sex club. I just really didn't like that Elodie kept lying to Mac for such a long time in the book. Also, the ending of the book felt a bit rushed and abrubt

I wish a little more time was spend inside The Scarlet Rope, as I feel it was meant to be a big part of the story but then it ended up not being that big, if that makes any sense? But I've got to say that the BDSM scenes we got were really good and so very hot. And not counting the lying and everything, I did really like the relationship between Elodie and Mac. They were sexy together, yet sweet and caring. The book had its ups and downs for me but the positive outweighed the negative for me and knowing that Brady's (Mac's friend and fellow hockey player) story is coming up next... I definitely want to read that one.

Thank you Grey Promo for the ARC in exchange for an honest review :)

Besides the fact that this man growled as if his life depended on it (+20 times???), it was a cute and fast-paced book.

For my taste, it was a bit insta-lovey, and the plot was very predictable.
We have an MMC who is a manwhore and has the exact same trauma as Christian Grey(WORD. FOR. WORD.) but this one girl just changes him, and he goes all, "Oh my god, this has never happened before har har har har! I am a manwhore, but this woman is all I ever wanted har har har! That is so weird har har har har har!"
They went all lovey-dovey after barely 30% of the book, in the span of 2 days. Mac also did some things I couldn't overlook that really irked me.

The characters had a lot of potential I just wish the plot was executed better.
I loved seeing their love for each other blossom into something more. Their little dates were everything and the way they talked to each other 🥹🥹🥹 The way he called her "baby" and "sweetheart"??🥹🥹
But the whole in-detail s*x club thing was absolutely not necessary for the rest of the book and the ending was a bit too convenient for the FMC & MMC, I really needed some more grovelling ❤️‍🩹

For a debut novel, this was a very good start. It has some solid romance plot traits and it keeps you engaged.
The fast burn didn't really work for me. It felt surface-level and I couldn't really immerse myself in Elodie and Mac's chemistry.
If you're looking for a steamy romance with BDSM elements, then this is the book for you.
The narrators were very good and played their parts exactly how they should.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review!

"The Player's Club" is a terrific debut for author Fallon Greer! I found myself comparing it to "Fifty Shades of Grey" because of the BD$M angle, which isn't a critique of its quality so much as a comment on its subject matter. It doesn't go quite as far as "Fifty" went in terms of, well, *you know,* but has all of the hallmarks of being similar enough to draw comparisons. I personally liked this book better despite it not going all that far in terms of content. It is also a hockey romance, though the book is not inundated with the sport. I was drawn to the characters, Elodie and Mac, separately and together. It's spicy in all the right places while maintaining an underlying heart throughout. Lots of secrets, dark desires, and exploration here. Real good stuff. The writing could have been a little tighter here and there, but I did enjoy this book! I can't wait to see what Fallon Greer writes next! Finally, this book's narrators, Stephen Dexter and Andi Arndt, are absolutely top-notch and were immaculate choices for this project. They give tremendous audio performances and narrate these characters perfectly. This is one of the better audiobooks I have read recently. Their performances are just stellar.

Thank you to NetGalley, Fallon Greer, and Dreamscape Select for the complimentary ALC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for providing me with an ALC for this novel. I love a good sports romance and add in a touch of BDSM? I was like “SIGN ME UP!” However, I was just disappointed. By 50% in, it just felt like a copy and paste of the 50 shades of grey books but condensed into one novel. I did finish, but the similarities kept stacking up, and honestly those books were not great. BUT, the spice was spicy!!

Reporter Elodie has the scoop of the year when she gets close to hockey player Mac. But when feelings get involved, Elodie knows she can't report anything she knows about him. This book was very 50 Shades of Grey-ish. It was steamier than I expected (I expected a light romcom when I saw the front cover) and was a great debut by Fallon Greer.

Not too shabby for a debut novel by Fallon Greer.

The Player's Club is a sports romance with mild BDSM elements. Do not let those BDSM elements make you shy away from this.

This story had a great strong start and Fallon easily and quickly grabs readers attention and keeps them vested for probably 85% of the story. Starting around 60ish percent, the concept of the book started to shift and while I could get glimpses of the author trying to blend it altogether, things weren't as smooth as the beginning.

While the overall story was entertaining and kept me intrigued, there were parts that definitely needed fleshed out more or didn't fit the story progression; details that were sort of forgot halfway through the book that were important in the beginning; and then that ending just didn't fit the overall flow with the rest of the book - it was too fast and wrapped up too easily.

Mac and Elodie's story is fast-paced and more on the intsa-love side of things. We do get to see them get to know one another outside of their original agreement and those dates were really cute. These scenes were a great way for readers to show their relationship growing, but it's an example of how parts weren't in the right progression of the story.

Again, I did enjoy this book overall. I gobbled the beginning of this book very quickly and needed to know where this story was going and how everything played out. And nothing in this book has deterred me from not wanting to read Brady's book when it releases.

Please be mindful of trigger warnings!

This book had me engaged and interested in the main characters Elodie and “Mac” from the start! This steamy hockey romance was full of ups and downs while maintaining the spice. When Elodie tries to find an angle for her tabloid story and ends up following Mac into the Scarlett Rope BDSM Club I was shocked. Once exploring the club trying to find her mark Elodie starts on a path of her own sexual discovery learning more about herself and falling for the hockey star and hidden dom, Cole “Mac” Mackenzie.

Upon starting a Dom/Sub relationship with her taploid target Elodie falls for Mac and puts everything, including her job on the line for this new relationship all while hiding the fact that she is a reporter. Throughout their relationship Mac opens up about his past with a former Pastor’s wife who is a secret Domme. With the passing of his former lover and the relationship with Elodie he learns that maybe his past isn’t what he wanted to believe.

The Player’s Club is an excellent debut for Fallon Greer. The characters and the world that was created kept me engaged and intrigued throughout the story. While the topics covered can be difficult for some readers the spicy allowed for a break from the heavy topics of the story and turned it into a hot and heavy romance. Personally, I loved this book and can’t wait for the next from Fallon Greer!

This review is for the audio version which I received as an ALC from NetGalley. Thanks NetGalley!

Andi Arnt and Stephen Dexter do fabulous jobs with these characters as expected. Both are favorites of mine already for their incredible narrations.

I think overall it's a good debut book. It's got some shortfalls, but I think the writing was pretty good and the characters not insufferable.

I just have one (kind of big) issue with the BDSM aspect of this book. It feels clear that the writer either is not that familiar with sex clubs/BDSM/D/s dynamics or just didn't do their research. It felt like someone read Fifty Shades, took the grooming backstory and put it in this book, and thought the fifty shades representation of this lifestyle was good enough to expand on. Which unfortunately sometimes made the spice cringe, and sometimes it was just plain harmful.

Regardless I think some people with less education on the subject would really enjoy this book. It's spicy and fun and there is a tiny bit of hockey? Kind of?

I felt like with time things like the MMC's estranged parents will have more of an emotional impact as well. Still a good debut.

What I did like: the premise of the story was interesting and the characters are loveable. I enjoyed the reporter X athlete dynamic, I haven’t read many of them. Mac has some really sweet, swoon worthy moments. I really liked Elodie’s tenacity, her life hasn’t always been easy but she’s making a life for herself.

What I didn’t like: I would have liked to see more hockey on page. We did get to see on practices and locker room conversations. I wish the FMC would have shared her secret MUCH sooner in the story. I felt myself just waiting for it to happen.

Elodie is a reporter for a gossip column, but also an aspiring author.
Mac is the hockey hotshot who seems to always be in trouble, his most recent scandal? Sleeping with a married woman.

Elodie is assigned to find the dirt on Mac, and she quickly finds that everything isn’t as it appears. The two decide to e get into a contract of their own, just fun. No falling in love. But just because you sign on the dotted line doesn’t mean your heart will follow the rules.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape for this advanced copy of The Players Club by Fallon Greer.

I need to start out with while I think this story had a lot of potential for a debut read, I think it also needs to be pointed out there’s a subplot in here that is not given the proper depth it needs to be handled correctly. The act between Caroline and Mac was assault of a minor and only Elodie seemed to notice.

I’m also very sick of the trope that people who join BDSM have experienced childhood trauma.

The whole incident where Mac punishes Elodie for his own feelings about Caroline is also a scene that gives the impression people use BDSM as abuse.

I think the author should have done an editing process with members from the BDSM community. It comes across as fanfiction as is.

First time reading Fallon books, The player’s club is a hockey romance that has a a BDSM story line too.

After reading the Blurb for this book I knew it was right up my street, I enjoy them main characters Mac and Elodie but also the friends Hannah and Brady these two has banter like there know each other for years.

The story is enjoyed but as we all know this never runs smoothly and I have to say that Fallon wrote Mac story perfectly hitting on a serious issue.

Elodie character was good but I felt it could have been a little more.

I am looking for to reading Brady story next when it release.

For me this is a 4🌟

ARC REVIEW

⭐️3.75 ⭐️

This is a new to me author! The idea and premise of this book was so intriguing to me, and I was so excited to dive into this world. We meet our main female character as she is a struggling as an up-and-coming writer and reporter and she is put on the story to follow this very well-known hockey player and little does she know she’s about to be put on the story of her life and also put into a world that she never knew that she was wanting to be a part of. The author did a really good job of making this a fast-paced and quick read and it made you want to know what was constantly going to be happening in this book. This was definitely like Fifty Shades of Grey meet sports romance.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. It had some really good emotional depth moments. It had some good steamy moments. This is definitely a good quick read for anybody who loves a good sports steamy romance.

1.5 so rounding to 2

This story had potential but it just missed it's mark for me. Thanks to Grey's Promotion for the ARC though!

This is a fast paced insta lust story about Elodie - basically a tabloid reporter, and Mac a hockey player. Elodie tries to get the scoop on him and follows him to a *club* where she somehow sneaks in and fakes it as a server to get to him. Of course he immediately wants her, and this is where the story goes. The BDSM honestly felt kind of forced in a lot of it and my major issue is that it completely stemmed from his trauma. I do NOT understand how absolutely no one called out Caroline for grooming a minor and yet it was blamed on Mac. Honestly this is why I don't think I can give this book a higher rating. The fact that no one even acknowledged it for what it was until he met Elodie is insane to me.

**The Player's Club** by Fallon Greer is an intriguing and steamy romance that delves into the hidden life of a famous hockey player and the journalist assigned to uncover his secrets. The novel combines elements of suspense, passion, and personal discovery, creating a captivating story that keeps readers hooked from beginning to end.

The story begins with a seemingly straightforward assignment for Elodie, a journalist tasked with tailing Cole "Mac" Mackenzie, the golden boy of the Los Angeles Blades. Her goal is to dig up dirt on his personal life for a gossip magazine, but things take an unexpected turn when she realizes Mac uses a decoy to elude the media. Determined not to fail her assignment, she follows the real Mac and stumbles upon a secret private club.

Inside the club, she discovers a world she never imagined, and her professional mission quickly turns personal. Mac, initially wary, is drawn to her, and their connection ignites a passionate affair. As she becomes a regular at the club and grows closer to Mac, her priorities shift from exposing his secrets to exploring her own desires and fantasies.

Fallon Greer skillfully builds the chemistry between the characters, making their interactions both intense and believable. Mac is a compelling hero, with his public persona as a charming athlete contrasted by his private life, which is full of mystery and depth. Elodie’s journey from a driven journalist to someone who is willing to risk her career for love and self-discovery adds layers to the narrative.

The novel's pacing is well-managed, with the right balance of tension, romance, and character development. Fallon Greer's writing is engaging and evocative, capturing the reader's attention with vivid descriptions and well-crafted dialogue. The secondary characters add richness to the story, providing additional perspectives and challenges for the main characters to navigate.

Overall, **The Player's Club** is a thrilling and sensual romance that explores themes of secrecy, desire, and personal transformation. Fallon Greer delivers a story that is both emotionally resonant and wildly entertaining, making it a must-read for fans of contemporary romance with a touch of suspense and eroticism.

Rating: 5 stars 😈😫❤🔥

Mac and Elodie 😫 A couple who are to keep things just casual? We all know how that's going to go 😈🤭 Right

Mac and Elodie are the missing pieces in each others lives. They love unconditonally, are fiercely protective and possesive of each other and will go out of their way to be there for one another even if it means putting themselves in difficult situations.

Elodie is a news reporter seeking out a scoop on the elusive yet dashing NHL star Cole "Mac" Mackenzie. She waits for him outside the staduim and soon realises that he uses a decoy to get away from the press and people. Of course she wants to find out where is he going that he has to use a decoy to get people off his trail. She ends up outside a private club.......The Scarlet Rope 😈 a B Ď Ś M club. There she sneaks in on a masquerade night where she and Mac hit it off instantly. They're attracted to each other but Elodie can't cross any lines because she has a boyfriend (rest assured she breaks up with him because their relationship hasn't been working for a while)

As their attraction grows stronger beyond what either could've imagined, they enter into a D/S contract, all while she hides the truth of the original reason she even entered the club that day. Soon as things start to get deeper and more meaningful, she realises her secrets could threaten their relationship.

I loved these two so much! I adore the fact that even though this is a spicy book, there's emotional bonding between the MMC and FMC. Their conversations are deep and meaningful, their love growing stronger without either even realising it. Mac is a Dom and boy is he a good one 😈 Elodie ventures into a world she didn't know she needed. I didn't know I needed to read them either 🤭🔥

God, give me a Mac, please 😫
He's dashing, intelligent, determined, protective, possesive and will do anything to keep Elodie for himself. He's such a freak and I loved that! He's an absolute sweetheart to her and that's so endearing because it's a complete 180 to their spicy moments 😏😫😍🔥 Elodie is feisty, she's beautiful, intelligent, protective, and strong. She's always feisty but when it comes to Mac and their D/S element she becomes an absolute sweetheart and Mac will do anything to protect her and keep her safe 😫

You need to grab them asap, because I've definetely found an author that I'm going to be a lifelong fan of and I'm not even kidding 🤭❤ Thank you so much Fallon and Greys Promo for the ARC. Fallon, you're a star ❤😌

When I saw that this was a hockey romance with a sex club mixed in I could not jump into it quick enough.

Elodie is a reporter for a tabloid magazine who is assigned to track Cole “Mac” Mackenzie hockey player for the Los Angeles Blades. She tracks him to a non-descript building and when she sneaks inside she is surprised to find a sex club. When she Mac saves her from a handsy patron they instantly hit it off. Elodie must figure out how to navigate this new world and keep it separate from her job.

From the instant Mac sees Elodie he can think of nothing more. His only fear is that she will not accept his sexual appetites.

This audio book was narrated by Stephen Dexter and Andi Arndt. The pace was good and I was able to differentiate each character. Mr. Dexter is my new favorite narrator. He could read the phone book and I would listen. Such a great voice for this character.

I thought this book was ok and my issues may just be personal preferences so if these things do not bother you, then this could be your next favorite book.

Where was the hockey????? I do not even recall if we were told what position Mac played. This is being advertised as a hockey book with little to no hockey at all. This is a huge frustration for me. The main reason I picked this one up was for the hockey aspect, so I was disappointed when you could have easily switched his profession for anything and it would not have changed the story.

There were several threads that read 50 shades of gray to me. The NDA, being groomed by an older friend of the family, the MFC being horrified by the whole relationship, and the MMC not understanding why. I know that these could be considered tropes but it was so similar.

I was not a fan of Elodie. I thought she had ample opportunity to tell Mac what she did for a living after she signed the NDA. Not to mention that she had a boyfriend for a big portion of the book and even though she did not physically cheat, she was definitely in an emotional relationship with Mac. I felt really bad for Todd, he seemed like a pretty nice guy.

I thought the book could have been longer. Mac could have eased Elodie into the life a little more. It did not really feel like he was teaching her anything other than a safe word. I also felt like the ending was abrupt and would have like more.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for this audiobook. This is my very honest review.

Author: Fallon Greer

Couple: Elodie Andrews & Cole “Mac” Mackenzie

Tropes: Journalist FMC, hockey romance, friends to lovers, BDSM x s3x club, reformed player, sports romance, Dom/Sub

Review: The Player’s Club satisfied my need for a new hockey romance! Fallon Greer provides your next book boyfriend in this book in the form of Cole Mackenzie and WOW is he HAWT! From page 1, I was sucked into the way she crafted this story of a “rag” columnist FMC who goes undercover to get access to her target who is no other than the infamous Mac Mackenzie! Elodie and Mac were full of laughs, found family and tragic deceit as this book unfolds which leaves us wrung out and wanting more.

Elodie and Mac have an intense attraction from the meet cute and I found the unorthodox meet cute to fit into their story arcs perfectly. Fallon introduces the underground club Mac is a member of in a way that intrigues you and also sucks you in. This is not your usual hockey romance and Mac is not the typical player. I found the themes of BDSM and Dom/Sub to fit the MCs, especially Mac, wonderfully and enjoyed the evolution of their relationship. Fallon also tackles the themes of discrimination and abuse well as we delve into Mac’s past and learn what his first dip into the Dom/Sub life was like.

Elodie was a shock to me. I found the way Fallon drove her backstory to be shocking in the best of ways since I expected her to be more deceitful. I loved how she became immersed in Mac’s life and ultimately refused to write her article. However, I found myself wishing she had told Mac her career sooner in the book since the fallout was epic when he learns about what she does. Fallon weaves the emotional turmoil Elodie goes through in this book in a way that keeps you on edge but unable to hate her since she becomes Mac’s biggest supporter and advisary.

This book was a great read and hits all the bases for a sports romance and friends to lovers read. From the initial meet cute to the end these two melted my heart and I loved how they showed up to support each other in this book. Fallon did a wonderful job with making two unique characters showcase their faults in their swoon worthy romance and well deserved HEA!

✨ I received this book as an ARC for my honest review✨

Rate: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Let me set the record straight and say that the cover art for this book is a bit misleading. While Mac is a hockey player, hockey scenes are very limited. The same can be said about Elodie, who is a reporter for a gossip collum. Elodie is a reporter tasked with digging up dirt on the controversial hockey player Mac and then finds herself in a relationship with him while keeping the truth hidden from Mac and her employer.

The book has so much potential, and I was really excited about what it could be, but it felt a bit rushed and stayed pretty surface-level. I really wanted to see more depth in Mac and Elodie’s relationship—it started off feeling like Insta-lust or Insta-love, and I think it could’ve used more development. I wasn’t thrilled about Elodie being in a relationship with someone else while having thoughts about Mac, but I do appreciate that she ended things with Todd before moving forward with him. I liked that they had these cute little dates and took turns doing things the other person enjoyed, but I wish we had seen more of these moments to really watch their relationship grow.

The book includes BDSM elements, but since Elodie is new to this world, I felt there wasn’t enough introduction beyond just mentioning a safe word. I would have liked more time spent in The Scarlet Rope, as it seemed like it was meant to be a significant part of the story but didn’t quite live up to that potential. The BDSM scenes we did get between Mac and Elodie were really well done—intensely hot, yet also sweet and caring. They had great chemistry, and those scenes were definitely a highlight

Overall, the storyline was quite predictable, and the resolution felt a bit too easy. There were also several plot threads that seemed left unexplored or forgotten. Despite this, the book served as a nice palate cleanser. It had its highs and lows for me, but the positives outweighed the negatives. Plus, with Brady's and Hannah's story coming up next, I’m definitely looking forward to reading that one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5 stars

I LOVED this SPICYYY debut and the audiobook narration made it even better!! Stephen Dexter and Andi Arndt perfectly captured Mac and Elodie in dual narration and I think I found two new favorite narrators. I was fully immersed in the scene and caught up in the characters, completely captivated by all of it!

Elodie was the reporter assigned to dig up dirt on star hockey player Cole 'Mac' Mackenzie. She was innocence in a den of iniquity when she followed Mac into the Scarlett Rope, a private club. When he first saw her, he was immediately drawn to her by an all-consuming attraction. He knew he couldn't let her go and then things quickly got heated. At first it was all about watching and learning and exploring the BDSM lifestyle but it became so much more!

I devoured every minute of this!! Secrets and lies were revealed and Mac's were full of juicy scandal and regrets that haunted him. And what would happen when feelings became real? Was Elodie simply chasing a story? I loved when they both had reached the point of no return and knew they had fallen for each other. I loved how Mac opened up to Elodie, sharing his deepest, darkest secrets. And I loved how family dynamics played into the plot as well as the light on mental health.

Ultimately, this was a story about control and surrender, trust and forgiveness. It was about having the courage to be your authentic self, rising above judgment and shame, and embracing what you want in life without letting your past define your future. A well written debut that I truly enjoyed and I can't wait to read Brady's story next! It even has one of my favorite tropes!

The Players Club is such a wonderful debut novel and a great start of a sports series by Fallon Greer . And since I'm in my hockey romance era you guessed it right. It's a steamy hockey romance with a hot hockey player Cole ''Mac'' Mackenzie and a gossip paper reporter Elodie Andrews. And , yes , Mac is her latest assignment. But soon that assignment becomes more than a job for Elodie when she starts to know him better. And she calls off the assignment but keeps the connection with Mac . As she follows him around he leads her to a club named The Scarlet Rope . And things between them gets interesting and steaming hot. Because all of a sudden Elodie finds something for herself there when Mac introduces her to some BDSM kinks . Mac is sweet and swoony but Mac in Dom mode is so hot . And dirty talking Mac is something else. And the chemistry between them is of the charts so she risks everything to be with him. She breaks up with her estranged boyfriend and calls of the assignment on Mac . But she never tells him what her job is and she's feeling a little guilty about it. Loved the moments when they helped each other with some family situations and went on their small dates all around LA . At one point they both catch feelings for each other and that's the moment everything falls apart. Being with Mac Elodie appears in some paparazzi pics and is in danger to lose her job . Also she experienced first hand how her job affects people's lives . Mac's life is a little messy because of a family situation and that's when he founds out that she's a reporter. Elodie was so smart and sweet and fierce about the things and the people that metered to her . Even after their break up she protected Mac and confessed her love but he was so far in his hurt that he rejected everything. But a chain of events shows Mac that Elodie told him the truth and that's eye opening for him . And that leads to the evens in the last chapter. Mac is so sweet and swoony and that grand gesture was everything. And that epilogue was perfect. Now I can't wait for Brady's story. There's a coach's daughter involved and maybe a shared history.

Thanks to the author and Grey's Promo for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.

For a debut novel, it was a good start - there are some great romance tropes that are well played on, and the ideas were there. It was a book that was easy to keep reading, and the overall premise had you hooked. Unfortunately, though, it fell flat on some execution points.

I loved Mac and Elodie as characters. Mac, the hockey player who had scored himself a bad name after some bad press, trying to go about his life as best he could. Elodie, the aspiring writer who was stuck in a job she didn't necessarily love, whilst dreaming of publishing her book. However the deception (I think that's the write word?) from Elodie left me feeling uncomfortable through parts of the book.

The chemistry between them though? Kind of... non-existent. I really wanted to enjoy their story but felt it hard to connect to them and failed to see any real spark between them. I also struggled with how insta-love their relationship was. However, the little dates Elodie and Mac went on were super cute, and I loved that she became his everything.

Don't be scared by the idea of the BDSM elements of this book. I went in thinking it would be k!nk heavy/element heavy, but it was honestly really all surface level. The spice is there, but not what I would have anticipated for a book with this particular brand of "private club". (part of me also feels like the BDSM elements weren't well represented, but that's just my own opinion)

This is also marketed as being a hockey romance - honestly, there was no real mention of it at all, other than Mac being a hockey player. To me, that did not make this a hockey romance.

Overall, a rather predictable storyline, and I felt the resolution was almost too easy. I also feel there could have been more story progression, with lots of threads of ideas left untouched or forgotten about. However, for a palate cleansing, lighter read, it was fun.

Thank you to the author and Greys Promo for the eARC opportunity. These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.

Thank you NetGalley, Fallon Greer, and Dreamscape Select for access to this ALC in exchange for a fair review!

I think I quite literally requested this ALC after seeing Stephen Dexter was a narrator because I love his voice and Andi Arndt is also one of my favorite female narrators so I went into this without looking at the description and assuming it was just a hockey romance 😅. Boy was I wrong but it was fun! I love a BDSM romance novel I just felt like this ones scenes were a little lacking.

They kept mentioning how Elodie is a newbie to BDSM and to go slow and I felt like there wasn’t ever any real BDSM education for Elodie aside from like you can use the safe word at any time and they kind of jumped right in and that felt kind of fast to me. Especially with the flogging and not having a stoplight system explained or counting them or checking in I don’t knowwwwww it was a little fast and uncomfy to me. The edging scene also felt kind of sped through and not super described. I also felt like there was just instalust between them and then they signed a contract it was just so fast and easy it kind of left a bit to be desired. They fell in love so fast. Some of the scenes were hot and I liked that we got a lot of backstory for Mac but it was also pretty dark. I also felt icky about the lengths Elodie was going to to get a story and being fine about breaking an NDA, etc. she redeemed herself in the end but I still felt a little yucky about her character for the first half of the book.

Overall I had a good time but it just left a few things to be desired. I am looking forward to Brady’s book with the coach’s daughter! Sounds fun.
