T is for Truman, tricks, and TROUBLE! Truman the black lab might be an older rescue dog, but he's still got enough mischief beneath his collar to keep eight-year-old Kaita Takano and her animal-fostering family on their toes from morning till night. Chewed through and through, the playfully illustrated, Kaita-narrated chapter book promises plenty of canine fun.

This is a nice early chapter book for kids about a girl and her family who foster a dog named Truman. It's well written and has an interesting premise. I think my main complaint is that it seems very young. The main character is eight, which I suppose gives you an idea of the book's audience, but even so, I thought the story was a little simplistic. Compared to, say, Kate DiCamillo's Mercy Watson series of chapter books, this one wasn't really challenging (the glossary of unfamiliar words in the back might be helpful for kids... but only if they don't know what words like "adopt" and "veterinarian" mean). I also didn't entirely buy the ease with which Kaita was able to give up Truman when it came time for him to go to his forever home; I have my doubts as to whether an eight-year-old would be able to let go so easily, without any tears. (Kaita is inspired by a real-life little girl, so perhaps the fictional Kaita's reaction was based on real life. Still, I would've liked to see the characters face a little more difficulty with this part of the story, since such a book might inspire a kid to want to foster an animal and they need to be prepared to have to give it up at some point.)

The illustrations are colourful and cute. I just wish there were more of them. There are only about two per chapter (and each chapter is around ten pages), so it made the book seem quite heavy on the text. Despite the simplicity of the story, the high text-to-picture ratio might be intimidating for some early readers.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the writing (even though it was simple, it was done well) and the interesting topic of fostering animals. The illustrations are fun, too. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it or not (I foresee whines of, "Can we foster a dog? Please?") but maybe this book would work for kids who already have pets and/or already have experience with fostering.

Thank you to NetGalley and Picture Window Books for providing a digital ARC.

Truman the Dog is the first in The My Furry Foster Family series, where a young girl named Kaita and her family foster a dog named Truman. This is a nice early chapter book for those who like animals. Truman is a black Labrador who needs a new home. The Happy Tails Rescue have asked Kaita’s family to foster him while a new home is found. It is not easy to find new homes for older animals. He is shy at first, but Kaita and Ollie The dachshund are able to bring him out of his shell and make him feel at home. Truman has some problems with abandonment and when left alone, he finds trouble, but the family are able to figure out how to help Truman. They finally find the perfect forever home for him. My only issue is that Kaita is pretty good about letting Truman go to his new family after getting pretty attached to him. I am not sure if an eight year old would give him up so easily. Having said that, this is an absolutely charming story about loving and rescuing dogs and all you will get back from them. The illustrations are colourful and cute. I just wish there were more of them. With this being a beginning chapter book, I think early readers rely on illustrations to help them with the context of the story. I do recommend this one to schools and classrooms as well as public library. There are several in this series and I think it might be a winner with young animal lovers. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Truman the Dog is the first in The My Furry Foster Family series of young reader books,

Truman is a black Labrador who needs a new home. The Happy Tails Rescue have asked Kaita’s family to foster him while a new home is found.

He is shy at first, but Kaita and Ollie The dachshund son make him feel at home. After a few little escapades, where Truman found trouble, he settles down and Kaita learns all his little foibles so they can find a perfect family for Truman. This is an absolutely charming tale all about showing love to animals and the love they give back.

The illustrations are so cute and fit the story perfectly. I loved the extras included after the story itself, there is the background to the tale, a glossary and activities to complete. Perfect for young readers around 5-7 years old.

I would like to thank the Author/the Publishers/NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for free in exchange for a fair and honest review

This is a wonderful series! I love the focus on finding animals their forever families. The foster family sensitively deals with animal's different personalities and needs -- really tuning in and not just a one-size-fits-all approach. Also addresses the little girl's feelings of getting attached to the animals they foster, loving them, and letting them go to their forever homes with both sadness and happiness. These are sweet, short little chapter books for the younger end of the chapter book crowd with color illustrations. My children love them.

Have you ever had a foster pet? Did things go well with your foster pet or not so good? When Kaita and her family foster an older Labrador mix, things don't go quite the way Kaita pictures in her mind. Kaita and her parents are very familiar with Happy Tails Rescue. This is where they got their Dachshund dog, Ollie, a year ago. Truman was not very happy when he first was put into the Takano house but after a little time he settles in... maybe a little too much. As Truman gets comfortable he begins to do some naughty things that dogs do. Will Kaita and her family have to give Truman back or will they find his forever home? Read this precious story about finding a home for a rescue dog.

As a dog lover myself, I adore this story! I have a granddog that is a rescue dog so this story is near and dear to my heart. My sweet Chewie had a foster family before he found his forever home. This is a great early chapter book that does not need to be missed!!

I absolutely loved this little chapter book! It's the perfect story to introduce kids to the idea of fostering pets that are looking for their forever families. Kaita and her family already have a dog that they rescued, but they decide to open their hearts and homes to Truman, a black lab who needs a new home. Truman is past the cute puppy stage, but still has a lot of the destructive puppy behaviors. Kaita's family helps him get over some of his shyness and bad behaviors.

The story does discuss how hard it is for foster families to let go of their foster pets, but also shines a light on how important the care of pet fosters is for the families looking to permanently adopt. There's also a nice little story in the back of the book on the real Kaita who inspired the fictional Kaita, complete with pictures.

5/5 stars, highly recommend. This is one of a series of four books covering pet fosters, and I'll be keeping my eye out for the others!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This is a great new addition to the series My Furry Foster Family. Designed for children 5-7 years old it’s great little beginner chapter book about fostering a dog named Truman. 8 year old Kaita has her hands full with Truman as he gets into lots of trouble at her house.
I enjoyed reading this younger reader and think children at the right reading level will enjoy it also. I appreciate the series and would like to introduce my 8 year old to it. He would love to read about being a foster family to a pet in need of a home. A very sweet story with delightful illustrations!
Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for this advanced reader copy.

This was a cute book about fostering dogs.  I have fostered dogs in the past.  I love that this is for younger kids.  I believe that the younger we can teach children to be kind to animals, the better this world will be.  It was very accurate describing the different feelings fostering a dog and watching it go to their forever home feels like.  Also, the book protrayed accurately how the dog reacts to a new environment.  I discovered at the end of the book that there are books in this series. I look forward to reading all of them.

Truman the Dog is part of a new series featuring a young Japanese-American girl whose family fosters animals as they search for a forever home. It is a fun, story that will appeal to young readers who love animals. In addition to reading and writing activities, these books contain photos and captions about the author, illustrator and their pets. This book focuses on the character-building activities of caregiving, resilience, and sacrifice.

3,5/5. A very simple and light story for young children. The story in itself is okay without being very original or entertaining. What I like about it was the information and the realistic aspect of being a foster home for pets. It’s well presented, explained and can also makes kids think about all the positive and negative things that an animal can bring into a home/family.

I’ve been buying more early chapter books for my library and this series looked really cute. And it is! The glossy pages and full-color illustrations will no doubt appeal to many young readers. I only wish there were more illustrations. There are multiple back-to-back spreads of just text, which could look intimidating to some newly independent readers.

I love the message of this book and how it teaches kids the importance of fostering and adopting shelter animals. I really liked how when Truman “found trouble,” the characters didn’t get mad at him but realized he was just being a dog and that they needed to do their part to make the environment more dog-safe (e.g., using a dog crate, keeping shoes picked up, etc.). [Soapbox Time: Too many adults expect animals to be perfectly behaved without taking the time to train them or modify the environment appropriately. Then they punish or abandon them as if it’s the animal’s fault. This is an issue I am passionate about, and I’m glad to see this kind of information in a children’s book.] Having said that, I will say that the text often read more like a handbook on taking care of pets than a true story, in my opinion. Still, I think animal-loving kids will enjoy it.

Series: MY FURRY FOSTER FAMILY
TRUMAN THE DOG, Book 1 in the My Furry Foster Family Series, by Debbi Michiko Florence, illustrated by Melanie Demmer
Age: 5-7; Grade Level: Kindergarten-2, Picture Window Books (Capstone), Aug. 1, 2019, ISBN-13: 978-1515844754 Softcover
Genre: Pet Books, Children’s Orphans & Foster Homes, Bookselling, Bookstores, Veterinarian Career, Animal and Pet Care, Friends and Family, STEM

The Takano’s family’s first rescue pet is a dog Kaita name’s Truman—for tricks and trouble! Any dog owner will lough-out-loud as Truman goes through all the difficulties of being in a scary, new situation, and readers will cheer Kaita on as she wins his heart and trust, with the help of her best friend, Hanna, and Ollie, the family’s dachshund. Filled with great scenes kids will totally relate to as Truman eats various items of importance and Kaita has to clean up the aftermath. But in this book and all in this series, one particularly moving and highly-effective theme comes especially in book one, as Kaita has to say goodbye. Yet she is encouraged because she knows she has helped Truman and each pet find their perfect Forever Family. Highly recommended for dog-lovers and any families with young children thinking of getting a dog. Excellent info on how to approach, how to handle mistakes while training, and gaining trust.

In honor of Multicultural Book Day 2020, I am honored to review the first four titles in My Furry Foster Family early-reader series, published by Picture Window Books, a Capstone imprint. Individual reviews on each title appear below, but I am genuinely so impressed with this series, and it is so much more than a series that celebrates diversity—both in characters and the brilliant use of animals—extremely effective for readers in its intended age group. I love the book immediately because eight-year-old Kaita Takano’s mother is a bookseller like me, and my husband is a veterinarian. We’ve rescued animals like Joss from Happy Tails Rescue in the books. Joss helps Kaita and her family become a foster family for rescued animals, taking care of them until they find their forever home. If fact, in my household of four children, over the years we have owned every animal described in the first four books—dogs, cats, hamsters, and two bearded dragons named Igor and Tony!

In each of these titles, diversity is “shown” simply through the character illustrations, as well as the diverse animals. The concept of diversity is done exceptionally well, in that it is organic to the story. There’s no narrative on race or differences, in the simplicity of the child-like mind, all of the characters and animals are accepted, no questions or turmoil or comments on differences other than learning more about the animals and the habitats. The characters and animals are simply accepted, as is, just because. Even more, the diverseness “shown” through the animals is celebrated, as Kaita and her friends learn more about each animal and its natural habits and habitat. This series has excellent classroom use in letting kids "see" all kinds of different people working together, with no questioning or condemnation in any way. Another brilliant aspect of this series, these everyday characters interact in stories and situations that will strongly appeal to boys and girls in the age group—animal rescue.

And of additional note, each book contains STEM-related back matter, glossaries, animal facts, questions, activities, and information about the real-life, 8-year-old Kaita, a Japanese-American who rescues animals and serves as the inspiration for this highly-recommended series. Especially appealing to young readers will be Kaita’s personal notes in the back-matter of each book, with pictures of her animals, including a real-life dachshund named Ollie like in the stories. And as an added bonus, the back-matter stories and content are unique in each book. PLUS, each of these titles can be read in any order! Enjoy!

BUTTONS THE KITTEN, Book 2 in the My Furry Foster Family Series, by Debbi Michiko Florence, illustrated by Melanie Demmer
Age: 5-7; Grade Level: Kindergarten-2, Picture Window Books (Capstone), Aug. 1, 2019, ISBN-13: 978-1515844747, Softcover
Genre: Pet Books, Children’s Orphans & Foster Homes, Bookselling, Bookstores, Veterinarian Career, Animal and Pet Care, Friends and Family, STEM

Five baby kittens! Kaita’s next foster animal family includes five of the most adorable and hilarious kittens anyone could every know! Except for Buttons. Buttons is really shy and won’t trust Kaita, no matter how hard she tries. One by one all of Buttons littermates are adopted, but noT buttons, until Kaita finds an unexpected way to comfort the kitten. When Kaita DOES end up helping Buttons find the perfect person, Kaita makes a huge sacrifice that all children will strongly relate to—(spoiler) she gives up her favorite blanket made for her by Grandma. I tried not to cry…

Excellent for teaching kids empathy, understanding, and (wow) sacrifice, SHOWN through the story and illustrations, extremely well-written and effective. Highly recommended for classrooms, homeschoolers, parents, grandparents, educators, EVERYONE.

APPLE AND ANNIE, THE HAMSTER DUO, Book 3 in the My Furry Foster Family Series, by Debbi Michiko Florence, illustrated by Melanie Demmer
Age: 5-7; Grade Level: Kindergarten-2, Picture Window Books (Capstone), Aug. 1, 2019, ISBN-13: 978-1515845614, Softcover
Genre: Pet Books, Children’s Orphans & Foster Homes, Bookselling, Bookstores, Veterinarian Career, Animal and Pet Care, Friends and Family, STEM

Katia can’t wait to learn how to take care of her latest foster animal rescues—a pair of hamsters! Food, toys, bedding, no problem! Except—it turns out Annie and Apple love to play escape and hide-and-seek! It will be hard to adopt them out if Kaita can’t find them!

BETTY THE BEARDED DRAGON, Book 4 in the My Furry Foster Family Series, by Debbi Michiko Florence, illustrated by Melanie Demmer
Age: 5-7; Grade Level: Kindergarten-2, Picture Window Books (Capstone), Aug. 1, 2019, ISBN-13: 978-1515845591, Softcover
Genre: Pet Books, Children’s Orphans & Foster Homes, Bookseller, Bookstores, Veterinarian Career, Animal and Pet Care, Friends and Family, STEM

Ah how this book made me miss my own, old beardies Igor and Tony. We had them for 10 years (they can live up to 25 years!) until we had to move and find our own animal rescue near us! We were fortunate to find a special veterinarian in our area who specialized in adopting and finding homes for reptiles. I know Igor and Tony found their perfect Forever Family. Though Kaita has a harder time learning about Betty the bearded dragon. Betty requires completely different kinds of care, like she needs to eat crickets! But before Kaita even has time to bond with Betty, she’s already getting adopted! And Kaita is shocked to discover who is going to be Betty’s new Forever Family.

When Dad comes home with a surprise, he immediately captures 8-year-old Kaita's attention. The Takano family doesn't have to wait long for their new surprise and guest. They're going to be a foster family. Truman, a black Lab, is an older pet that acts pretty shy for the first little bit after arriving. However, it doesn't take long for him to feel comfortable with Ollie, the families dachshund, and the family. Comfortable enough to exhibit some pent up energy and excitement. Oops! The family might be facing some real challenges.

There are four books in the My Furry Foster Family series for 1st – 2nd graders. This book has five chapters and approximately two illustrations in each chapter.

What Concerned Me:

Though I really liked the thought of a series that introduces foster families, I had a concern. At first, Kaita acted like it was going to be near impossible to see Truman go to a forever family, which felt realistic. (Goodness, I'm well beyond 8 year's old and I think it would pull on my heartstrings.) But for some reason, Kaita did an about-face, was understanding and almost anxious to see Truman go.

It's one thing to logically understand that Truman needs a forever family, but emotionally it should have been a little harder. But on the flip side, I guess you don't need kids crying over the book, but it's important to point out that being a foster family most likely would be a little tough.

I have to be honest, I'm not that familiar with chapter books, but I think it would have been nice to have had one more illustration per chapter.

What I Liked Most:

I liked that this story was more about fostering and caring for an animal rather than adopting. The back of the book provides a few discussion questions, activities, and a glossary, which is nice. And as I mentioned earlier, I would like to have seen more of the cute artwork, since it adds quite a bit to the story.

What a delight it was to find and read Truman the Dog by Debbi Michiko Florence. Neither I nor any of my grandchildren had read any of the books in this series. However, we do have the others which include different animals on our-to-be read list.

Of the three of us who read the book together, we all gave it 5 stars but for different reasons. The rising third grader liked that he could read it himself. Plus he liked that there were plenty of interesting colorful illustrations. His first word in describing the book was “cute” which the rising second graders used to describe it too. She could also read it the book herself with some help. Having tried to predict the ending, she found it surprising but fitting. As for me the grandmother, I liked how we could predict, empathize with Kaita when Truman made trouble while also growing to love him along with her. The educator side of me loved the glossary, questions and things to do at the end. All of us enjoyed learning about the real Kaita and the comparisons to the fictional one.

It is a perfect book for children moving into chapter books. The illustrations help the children making the big transition from quick reading to chapter books. Animals are always of interest with this one showing the importance and the responsibility of fostering animals who are getting ready for their forever homes.

The publisher through Net Galley provided an ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

There are lots of good things about this children's story aimed at the five to seven age group. The story is well-paced, easy to understand and written in a fun, upbeat way. The illustrations are colourful and lovely, and they complement the text perfectly.

This book features the Takano family and their experiences, as they foster older rescue dog Truman. Told from Kaita, the daughter's point of view, this story contains accurate descriptions of fostering a large dog both good and not so good, and manages to portray the dos and don'ts of fostering rescue animals, in an easily understandable and non-judgmental way.

This is more a diary of experiences than a story, but it is entertaining to read and does put the messages across well. It is also worth noting that the advanced reader copy I read is written in English (US), which does raise differences in spellings of keywords for the UK readers. Not a problem for adults, but may engender some confusion in young readers?

I like the sections at the back of the book, a glossary of terms, some questions to think about in relation to the story, and some activities. There is also a feature on the young girl and family who inspired the story, which is interesting.

This is part of a series of books on fostering animals, which will make educational and entertaining reading for the age group intended.

This is a lovely, sweet story-book for children about a girl and her family who foster a dog named Truman.

Eight-year-old Kaita’s family decide to start fostering dogs. As they try to teach Truman manners and doggy social skills, Kaita encounters a problem - she becomes attached to this new pet. Will they be able to keep him in the end?

An early chapter book with oodles of character, it’s a marvellous introduction to the temporary nature of fostering. Themes of responsibility and family are wonderfully interwoven throughout and it is well-paced, easy to understand and well written by Debbi Michiko Florence, in a fun, upbeat way. The illustrations are gorgeously colourful and they complement the text perfectly.

Trueman the Dog was a delight to read and almost every page got a chuckle. This book is an opening for children to share their own stories about their pets and favourite animals. The key message about caring for our pets and showing compassion was great too, as was the inclusion of the suggested activities at the back of the book.

My heart was certainly warmed as I got to know this doggy and the family.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Capstone via NetGalley at my own request. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

4+ stars: Debbi Michiko Florence’s Truman the Dog is a thoroughly enjoyable short/beginning chapter book interspersed with adorable illustrations by Melanie Demmer. In the book, a family with one very well-behaved dog named Ollie temporarily adds a second older, more mischievous dog to the mix. Kaita and her family begin fostering a dog named Truman.

Chewing on a backpack, refusing to willingly enter a bathtub, and rolling around in garbage after knocking over the bin are a few of instances in which Truman finds trouble. The family reacts well and without anger to his antics, and they discuss Kaita’s feelings about Truman and his future as the right dog for another family. While upset at first, Kaita comes to accept the temporary nature of fostering and the importance of helping many animals find the right place.

After the story, the author includes a few questions and activities, a glossary of some words used in the book, and a bit about herself and “the real Kaita.” Recommended!

This is a cute story about a young girl, Kaita, and her parents as they begin to care for foster pets until the pets can be paired with their new forever family. I enjoyed the warmth and cooperation between the three family members to care for their pets.

The antics of the foster dog, Truman, provided funny content for the illustrations. Kids will love the illustration of him in the kitchen with the garbage strewn about.

The author did share a lesson or two through the main character, Kaita. She learned that sometimes with pets, you have to be diligent to keep things picked up off the floor because curious dogs may just chew things to pieces.

The additional content at the end about the real life Kaita was heartwarming too.

All in all, an excellent book for kids. There’s nothing really new here, but several things included as mentioned above, go above and beyond the basic pet story for additional reader connection and interest. There are other books available in this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Kaita and her family are fostering animals until they find their forever home. So, when Truman, the half-breed lab comes in their home, Kaita instantly loves him! The little doggy gets into trouble in the most adorable ways, and the family adores him. But when the time finally comes for Truman to go to his forever family, Kaita finds it hard to separate from him. Can she find the courage to let Truman go to his new family?

Truman the Dog is an adorable book about fostering animals. It teaches children in the most loving and simple way what fostering animals means, and why it is so important. The illustrations accompanying the story are simply adorable, and the combined result is outstanding. At the end of the book, the young reader can find a small glossary to help them with some words.

Truman the Dog is an absolute delight, and a book I would definitely recommend for all children.

Truman, a spunky back lab, needs foster care before he finds his forever home. The Takano family has volunteered to have him come and stay with them indefinitely until a home can be found.

He is full of mischief and keeps the family on alert each and every day. Eight-year-old Kaita gets very attached to him even though he is a little rascal. Will he find a family who wants to adopt him and keep him always? Will Kaita be able to let him go knowing his stay with her family was only temporary?

"Truman the Dog" is part of the "My Furry Foster Family" series. This simple and inspiring chapter book has fun, kid-friendly illustrations that are very relatable. The author has included a glossary at the end of the book of words that may be unfamiliar to the young reader.

The story is charming, the message is positive: rescue animals are available to love and blend into your family. Both parties are happy winners when that happens. I highly recommend this book.

This book is part of the Furry Foster Family Series by Debbi Michiko Florence and Illustrations by Melanie Demmer and is about a family who fosters a Dog named Truman, but not everything goes as planned while Truman is there.

I read this book with my sons during our Homeschool session today, and we all loved it! The Story itself was very heartwarming and I believe it will win the hearts of those kids who truly love animals. I love that it teaches you about fostering animals and helping out in any way possible. The only thing we did wish for was more illustrations, my boys loved the pictures and they were all so beautiful, just wish there were more so I'm giving this book 4/5 stars. All in all, I will be recommending this to our Homeschool Co-op group for being such a loving story. I was sent this book for an honest review by Netgalley and the publishing company Capstone, so a big thank you to them.

Truman the Dog is a beginning chapter book that is sure to engage new readers who love dogs. With short chapters, appealing illustrations (some seemingly by the narrator), and action it is sure to appeal. See what happens when Truman enters a foster family and reacts. Watch him with his foster family and the family dog as they interact.

Young readers will enjoy the refrain, "Oh Truman, you found trouble." Along with Kaita, young readers will wonder about where Truman will next live.

Your heart will definitely be warmed as you get to know this pup and family.

There are a number of bonus sections in the back including suggestions about drawing, meeting the real Kaita who was the basis for the girl in the story and more information about fostering.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an engaging beginning reader. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to Picture Window Books for providing #collabookation with a copy to read and share!
I loved this #ownvoices book and I truly think that kids will, as well. It is super cute and great for any child at the early reader stage, who wants to start reading chapter books. Kaita and her family take in a foster dog, Truman, until the right family comes along. They live through all of the trials of having a new dog, including the good and the bad. After a few families weren't "just right", and some time, Kaita starts to become sad about the idea of Truman leaving their house. They have bonded and he has become part of the family. You will have to read this book to find out what happens further. This is a great book for any K-3rd grader who loves dogs or might be an animal lover! Super cute. It is part of a 4 book series and just came out this month (August 2019).

An early reader book about the Takano family. This book is a heartwarming book about a little girl named Kaito and being a foster parent to a rescue dog named Truman. At first Truman is very wary of new people, and chews things when left alone. The family learns all about Truman and what personality he has, and adjust their care accordingly. They find out how hard it is giving him up, once they have fallen in love with him and he is a part of their lives. In the end they are a little sad, but also very happy Truman found a good forever-family. Highly recommend to all families, especially if they are thinking about being foster parents to a pet.

Katia and her family, who have a dog named Ollie, provide a foster home for Truman while he waits for his forever home. Although Truman is very lovable, he gets himself into some puppy trouble. Katia immediately falls in love with him and is conflicted about how she'll feel when it's time to let him go. This short, illustrated chapter book for early readers has a positive message about caring for animals and shows what it's like to foster a pet. It's a sweet start to a series that will appeal especially to early readers who enjoy stories about animals and pets.

Truman is waiting for his forever home, but he goes to live with Katia's family as a foster pet. This delightful story chronicles the entire fostering process from the time Truman arrives until after he has become the family pet in a new home. Throughout the story, Kaita learns how to encourage Truman to make new friends and take a bath, as well as how to prevent problems from occurring. The illustrations were fun and brightly colorful, and the pace of the story seemed perfect. I foresee this being a popular book, and I'm glad to have had the opportunity to preview it through NetGalley.

Truman the Dog by Debbi Michiko Florence is part of the My Furry Foster Family series. Kaita and her family become a foster family to a lovable mischief filled mixed lab named Truman. The story tells how Truman adjusts to his new foster family and how Kaita's family and dog Ollie adjust to him. The Gracia family adopts Truman and Kaita has some emotions she has to work through when he is gone.

This book would great for grade school readers who are starting to read chapter books.

Love this first installment in this new series by Debbi Florence! Truman is a typical foster dog that is looking for his furever family. Kaita Takano has her work cut out for her to get Truman ready for adoption. Our students will love this first book in the series (especially those that love Hound Hotel)! We can’t wait to experience the next adventure with the lovable Takano family!
