An erotic polyamorous retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Everyone knows the story.
The Headless Horseman rides on Halloween night, collecting the souls of the damned — until the year Brom Bones disappears, and Ichabod Crane and Katrin Van Tassel find nothing but a smashed pumpkin in his wake.
They grieve the loss until the fateful anniversary arrives again...and with it comes a visitor. Shadowed and headless, appearing in their doorway and driving them to ecstasy in their bed.
It becomes tradition: every year, they wait for him. Every year, he comes.
The one night the town fears the Horseman most is the night he rides for more than death.
Warning: This book features a MMF relationship between Brom Bones/the Headless Horseman, Ichabod Crane, and Katrina Van Tassel. It is intended only for adult audiences.
Unbridled and unconventional, this gripping short story follows the ghostly lines we cross for love.
Content warnings are listed in the book's front matter and on the author's website.
Aveda Vice (any pronouns) is a pansexual author of unconventional kink and monstrous romances. In their books, you’ll find a fondness for queer creatures, polyamorous love, and grumpy girls. She researches true crime, decorates every day like it’s Halloween, and is going to hell.
So I have this weekly feature where I review the weirdest eroticas and romance novels I can find, and when my friend Heather told me about this Headless Horseman-themed erotica she found for free in the Kindle store, I knew what my next pick was going to be.
HEADLESS is a very strange story about Ichabod (who goes by Abe) and Katrina (Katrin) whose friend that is obsessed with the Headless Horseman (Brom Bones) ends up going missing, only to come back as the horseman himself. Every year, they wait for him and they have a-- you guessed it-- smoky threesome while his pumpkinhead watches.
There's not much to say about this one. M.J. Edwards, this is not. The writing is actually earnest and not that bad. If it were more than just fourteen pages, this could actually be a half-decent romance.
3.5 stars! This erotic horror short is only about 15 pages but it does pack a punch. As soon as I heard it was an erotic polyamorous/menage retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, I knew I needed to read it. I love and need more paranormal stories about the Headless Horseman. The smut in this was more flowery than I expected and is more a tease than anything but I did enjoy the writing and spooky/gothic vibes. If the author ever writes a novella or full novel about these three characters, I wouldn't hesitate to read it.
Interesting erotic twist on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Super short MMF poly romance. Great premise, but the writing was a bit too convoluted and flowery at times. A quick and sexy Halloween read.
on the one hand i wish this had been longer and i can’t wait to potentially hear more about these characters, but i also think this short story was the perfect length. erotica but make it spooky.
This is an erotic polyamorous MMF retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It’s a super atmospheric, gothic short story. It took a few pages before much of anything happened—I assumed it would bring the heat much earlier than it did—but I did like how it built. Katrin, Abe, and ghost demon Brom Bones can get it. Great last sentence!
CW: missing loved one who reappears as a ghost demon once a year
This was an interesting snippet. I have always loved this legend so had to read it, especially since it was turned into a poly MMF story!
The writing was a bit iffy to me. At times it was hard to tell exactly what position, how things were going with all the descriptors.
Since it is so short it's kind of hard to tell how a longer might be, but I still enjoyed this and am hoping for a full-length version. I will check out more by this author.
Given that it’s an erotic short o expected a lot more spice BUT in under 20 pages it did give me this bitter sweet story that I desperately wanted more of. So while it wasn’t as spicy as I might have wanted (and a guy and girl and a monster deserves spicy) it did do its job in making me engaged.
A very atmospheric and vibe-y short story featuring a thruple, one of whom was taken by a curse (along with their head). A sexy and steamy bite. The imagery of the pumpkin head looking upon the trio as they bone was truly something else.
I heard about this author on Twitter, and when this story became free, I clicked that button so fast because I have no book shame. Then I convinced Nenia to read it for her What the Actual Fuck Wednesdays project, and we turned it into a BR.
It was a very quick BR, since this is only 15 pages. One thing about me is that I tend not to like short stories because they always leave me wanting. This was interesting because I didn't think it was a bad short story at all, and yet it could have easily been a full-length novel, which I might have actually preferred.
The writing was really great, just super dense and descriptive (which I think works great for short stories). But it was also slightly vague when it came to the sex. I think vague sex in a 15-page short story is probably best, but that circles back to this being perfect for a novel. There was so much room for character development and plot! I wanted so much information!!! However, the author did do a good job with the characters given the length, except maybe for Katrin, who was just kind of nothing.
A couple of things that gave me pause were the names used to refer to Brom Bones (the Headless Horseman) and Ichabod. Brom was often called "Death" and Ichabod was "Abe" except for one instance. This became even more confusing when I did a quick Google search and found out Brom's full name in the original story is Abraham Van Brunt. So why is Ichabod's nickname Abe? Is the Headless Horseman actually much more than a Sleep Hollow specter? Why is Brom the Horseman at all (did I miss that part?) And why was he friends with Ichabod/Abe?
Are there layers to this little short story that I just can't grasp, having not read the original tale?!?
Anyway, the moral of this little story is that if you have a dead boyfriend, you should let his smoky ghost self have a threesome with you once a year until you and your alive boyfriend die. Also, I would read more of this author's work.
It was an okay book. I do love a threesome... I was getting flash backs to the Medium series by Meg Cabot and that is not the best thing. It explained what it needed to explained and the heat level was a nice simmer but... I could have used more. For a 17 page story it did something. It was like one flick to the bean and leaves.
Vice is an incredibly talented writer and this story was beautiful. I’m desperate for a happily ever after because this didn’t have that. But it was very true to the OG headless horseman.
This is super short and tells the story of two people loosing someone but not really loosing him.
I thought this would be just a very short steamy monster story, however this turned out so different. To me this was incredibly sad.
Even though this was so short I cried. Even through the sex scenes I cried because I felt they were overflowing with longing for something they both need but can’t really have. Just writing this makes me sad again.
However besides that of course we don’t get much about them. I wish this story would be longer and we would get to know more about these three people, their relationship and what came with their loss.
For only 8 pages this was really good but because I think this could be so much better and because I expected it to be much more scary, which it was absolutely not, I gave this 3.5 stars.
Headless is an erotic polyamorous short story retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow from Aveda Vice that was free to download from the author (at the time of my reading it). This was a short and steamy MMF Halloween read. At the end it says these 3 might be getting their own full length story and I think that could work better for this story as I was left wanting more and unsatisfied. This was very short, like 20 pages, and the characters all have history/a relationship that is hinted at that I would have liked to see. The smutty scenes felt low steam and more of an abstract/flowery writing that didn’t work for me. I just wanted all the smut and kink for the Horseman and the couple he visits every Halloween. 🤷🏼♀️
This was just fine. I guess I didn’t really enjoy the writing style. It felt like I was reading a movie montage or something bc there was almost no dialogue. It’s nice to know that these characters are getting their own full length novel at some point though.
listen, you won't regret reading Headless, i promise!!!
the prose is lush without being too saccharine and when i tell you that i simply could not envision Ichabod, Katrin and Brom not being a throuple, even with the story being short, there was just something that convinced me of the fact that they were all simply made for each other and nobody was expandable!
I was sent an arc by the author in exchange for an honest review
This one just whet the appetite (and other things 😉) I need more!

Definitely feel the spookiness for the season! I love the idea of the story and how the legend works into this romance. It sure makes me want more from the story and this story but it was enjoyable all the same.
An erotic, poly short story pulled from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
If you told me I’d be into a headless horseman poly erotic sex short I wouldn’t be (that) shocked but damn am I into it.
The writing of this was fantastic? Descriptions of the setting were eerie in the best way and the sex in no way was overdone. The emotion felt by characters (more than just sexual want) was great! And of course, we all know I’m here for a good ole monster having a good time. 😉
My only fault with this would be the length, I WANT MORE. But, it does say short story and that’s exactly what it was and the perfect amount of background was given for the length of the story.
