3.5 'revolutionary' stars rounded up where the concept of a hostile environment takes on a whole new meaning !!!

If you want something unique, different, and outside of your normal genre then this book might offer that rare opportunity. I certainly have not come across a thriller that can be best described as an environmental thriller.

We are not looking for a serial killer despite the rising body count, we are not looking for motive spurned by greed, jealousy, or adultery. No this is nature rebelling against humanity for the destruction of wildlife and nature. This is vengeance that is every bit as ruthless and deadly as a man wielding an axe or a shot from a gun. Nature that is respectful but lethal, beautiful but destructive, and villainous with a voice through two girls.

The Plot

Two sisters Flora and Fauna bear the visible scars of a lightning strike that hit a large oak tree outside their home. An accident that has left Fauna in a wheelchair and in need of 24 hour care and Flora, her loving sister with scars on her body that are aggravated when the trees communicate with her.

The trees also defend the girls through episodes of bullying, when in danger and when accused of witchcraft, which instead of deterring the locals, it puts them in even greater danger because they are directly linked to the murders of local teenagers.

The story is very touching and topical with the destruction of the planet around us. However, the messages are portrayed in a very different way that keeps you hooked through the story.

Review and Comments

The ecological theme took centre stage; however, we are also treated with themes of love, loss, family loyalty, and grief that are woven so well into the story. The strongest theme for me was the girls wanting to be accepted into a society where they did not fit – naturally. Rejected, ostracised and lonely, we see the ugly side of a society not prepared to tolerate and engage with someone or something that is different.

The writing style is just superb and highly imaginative. However, you can only be seduced by someone’s writing style for so long and then you need to focus on what is being written, which is where it dipped for me.

I do love the messaging and drawing the readers attention to the destruction of nature, trees, and wildlife. However, with tree-jacking, and trees coming alive where the branches act like limbs, capable of strangling a man, then it starts to feel more like a horror movie. I cannot describe as fantasy, nor magical realism, so as a thriller it was too implausible for my tastes. Yet credit for the themes and tackling a very different storyline.

For the writing style, the concept, the uniqueness, and the messaging, I have opted for 3.5 stars rounded up as it is a debut novel. However, it was a bit outside my preferred genres to say I truly loved this.

In a Nutshell: This contains all the features I hate about the YA genre, and I still enjoyed it to quite an extent! All credit to the innovative storyline. First of a series, and hence the ending is ‘To Be Continued’. Expect magical realism, not fantasy.

Story Synopsis:
A year ago, sisters Flora and Fauna were near a tree when it was struck by lightning. Now fourteen-year-old Fauna is in a vegetative state, and seventeen-year-old Flora is trying her best to fit in a world that views her as ‘that girl’.
When Flora discovers a body in her yard the day after her junior year at high school ended, she doesn’t know that it is just the first of a bizarre series of deaths. Police are sure that the foster boy next door, Carl, who is also Flora’s friend, is involved in the crimes. Soon, Flora learns a weird secret, and it is up to her to convince everyone about who might be responsible for the creepy events.
The story is written mostly in the first person perspective of Flora.

Note: This is not Fantasy but Magical realism. It’s like an alternate history set in contemporary time, with some fantastical elements inserted in our reality.

Where the book worked for me:
🌳 I loved the concept of the book. Even if I try to be discreet about the theme, the fact is that the name of the series and the Goodreads blurb give you enough of a clue to know who is behind the murders. Given the way we treat this planet, the premise might seem farfetched, but it was still interesting. I enjoyed the vendetta agenda, though it was outrageous at times.

🌳 I also loved the title and how wonderfully it was incorporated into the plot. Can’t tell you more!

🌳 I liked the connection between the two sisters. Their names were apt for the plot.

🌳 The story was the main, or probably the only thing that kept me going through this book. I am not too fond of the YA genre, and had requested this mainly for the imaginative theme (and partly for that stunning cover!) The author does justice to the promise shown in the blurb.

🌳 The writing is quite fast-paced. Yet, the descriptions aren’t compromised upon.

Where the book could have worked better for me:
🌵 If you are an adult reader who might want to give this a try, know that it comes with all the YA trappings:
🍃 a rambling first person narration with repeated anatomical references (heart/eyes/cheeks/hands/yada yada yada);
🍃 a budding romance; and
🍃 almost non-existent character layering. Every teen is either a bully or a hero. Almost every adult is either an ignoramus or a jerk, sometimes both. (Why can’t YA authors write adults more realistically? Not all of us are irrational, judgemental fools. Well, not always, anyway.)

🌵 The ‘that girl’ idea is raked too often. It feels repeated and even exaggerated.

🌵 I couldn’t buy the idea that so much happened in such a small town, but maybe I’ll need to wait until I read the remaining books to understand why the “Natural Intelligence Revolution” began in such a nondescript location.

🌵 The final few chapters were a bit too wacko!

The audiobook experience:
The audiobook, clocking at a little over 6.5 hours, is narrated by Austenne Grey. She does a decent job of providing different-sounding voices to each character. Though her voices sound too farfetched at times, she still handles most of the book well. What I especially loved about her performance was her singing voice. There are a couple of ditties in the story, and she renders them most melodiously.

In short, keeping aside the flaws of the genre, the story has a bizarrely innovative plotline. As the first book of a planned trilogy, the plot leaves many things hanging to ensure that we return for the next installment.

The ending cannot be called a cliffhanger, but it does leave a lot pending with an almost-apocalyptic kind of feel. I am curious to see where the author takes it next.

Recommended to YA readers seeking a dark environmental thriller. Adults who have enough patience to read YA can also give it a go. It’s a good start to what seems to be a promising indie trilogy.

3.6 stars. (3.25 stars if I rate it as an adult. At least 4 stars if I think of it from a YA point of view.)

Note: The content gets quite dark, with some scenes bordering mild ‘horror.’ There is also a sexual assault scene. So this definitely isn’t for the younger ages in the YA group.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author through ‘StoryOrigin’ and these are my honest thoughts about it.

This book was amazing. Everything I wanted from a YA magical realism story.
First many many thanks to the author and Katie Garland for including me on the book tour and sending me a copy ahead of its published date of March 29.
This is the first in the Natural Intelligence Revolution trilogy, and I found the plot so interesting, about nature fighting us back.
I loved not only themes of ecology, but of compassion, family, trust, loyalty, and recovering from traumas and dealing with external judgment. The writing style had me hooked from page one with excellent descriptions and emotions portrayed on each page. I loved the friendships formed, the beginning of a romance, the secrets revealed, and the darker side of the “natural revolution.”
This was parts murder mystery, parts fantasy, parts YA, parts family drama, and parts romance and I was here for every bit of it. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and I highly recommend to everyone to go out and order the Lightning Tree by its release date!

Two sisters and an unfortunate accident begin this YA magical realism novel. Before long, strange murders are occurring in their quiet town and Flora, the sister who lives her life as "that girl" because of her unique skin markings, has tasked herself with solving the mystery.

The Lightning Tree is a unique, mildly dystopian style novel that moves with rapid fire and had me sucked in pretty quickly. It is a comfortable and accessible read with good writing and an interesting setting. The story reads a little on the younger YA side in some places, with some occasionally awkward dialogue, but overall is a great merge of the fantastical and contemporary. The book is the epitome of genre bender, also including facets of horror, paranormal, thriller, sci-fi, and a touch of romance. It is like nothing I have ever read.

There are a lot of serious topic woven into the plot, from ecological awareness to family dynamics. While I would have liked to see more exploration of some of these topics and fleshing out of the issues underneath, there is potential for these things to be addressed in further reads, as The Lightning Tree is the first in a trilogy. I do appreciate Fogelberg's ability to continue addressing normal teenage issues with the magical side of the story.

I devoured this book in two sittings and am curious to see how the trilogy continues. The ending is solid, but definitely leaves things ready for more exploration in book two. It isn't quite a cliffhanger, but there is a lot left unresolved and I'm here for it.

This book deserves a bit more attention and hype than it has thus far received. I will definitely be continuing the series. Fogelberg's imagination is a fun place to be.

The Lightning Tree was such a fascinating story! As someone very concerned about the environment, I loved seeing the trees speak and hold their space. The true science of trees comes through as well, animated through this unique world. One of my favorite moments:

The Marks.
X for cut.
A warning, a countdown, a death sentence.
The one word that humans taught the trees.

No matter how many times I read that last sentence, I get chills. This kind of poetry is found throughout the text. In the sections devoted to Fauna, most obviously, but also in the care of sensory details throughout the prose. I had such a palpable sense of smell and vivid details to ground me in this world. Carl is also a heartthrob. No spoilers, but I love how book 1 of the series ends: in crisis, but also a small seed of hope. What a series for our times!

After reading the blurb, I honestly did not think I would enjoy this book. I needed a quick read and thought I would give it a go and I have to say, I have never been so happy to be wrong. This book is beautifully written. The prose throughout were lovely and the story is captivating. People who enjoy nature rising up, throw in a murder mystery with a little budding romance and the prejudices of a small town then you will love this book.

I would say this book is YA but older adults will enjoy it too. It’s a quick read but fast paced and enjoyable. I’m surprised this hasn’t been reviewed more. Part one of the NI Revolution Trilogy. I will definitely be reading the next one.

Such a wild and engrossing genre-bending story! The Lightning Tree blends YA coming-of-age, magical realism, murder mystery, apocalyptic sci-fi, conspiracy theory, environmental thriller, and campy horror. If you mixed A History of Wild Places, The Year of the Witching, and Stranger Things, the result would be something like The Lightning Tree.

The story centers on sisters Flora and Fauna a year after they were struck by lightning in a tree, an accident which leaves Fauna catatonic. They develop a mysterious ability to communicate with nature, and they may be humanity’s only hope against an upcoming threat.

The atmosphere is very spooky and unsettling. At 260 pages, this is a fast-paced read that I binged in a day. While this book focuses on one small town, the ending hints that the rest of the trilogy will explore the effects of the Natural Intelligence Revolution on a larger scale.

Thank you to the publisher and author for the gifted advance copy.

This was a breath of fresh air! With the fast pace of the YA genre (which I personally really enjoy), and with a rather new concept of antagonists (or are they..?), it was hard to put down! This book is full of surprises and modern concepts, and it brings current extremely important problems to light greatly visualized. The story of the sister to the heroine of the book is very moving and just like the author's previous book (completely different genre though), everything is painted beautifully vividly, so it is not hard to imagine the scenery and settings. The language flows (another thing I absolutely love in books). I'm eagerly awaiting the continuation!

Do you like sci-fi reads? I'll read them off a trusted recommendation but I don't seek them out. I will however, seek out the rest of this series.
Because, well, this book was so good. You have so many questions throughout it, and honestly, the end doesn't clear anything up but I am not at all upset.
.
So, if you like nature, sci-fi, a little tiny romance, family, intrigue and revenge, this book should absolutely be on your list.

This book pulled me in from the second I started reading it! WOW! The sisters have a bond like no other and the plot twist keeps you reading until the very last page. I won’t say much so I don’t spoil it but you become so attached to Flora, Fauna, Carl, and Aaron as the story goes. It also talks about how the damage we do to nature is very real and will
Impact us in ways we don’t even know.

An electrifying new YA thriller
Audiobook version: 5 stars overall, 5 stars story, 5 stars narration

This YA thriller blew me away and deserves to be famous. I became hooked in the first minute with the compelling story, lovable main characters, and masterful narration. The lyrical writing and the distinct sense of place that the author evokes are an added bonus. I appreciate the unique perspective of 17-year-old Flora, who is more of an outsider than the average teen, but thankfully she has the support of her best friend Carl as weird things start happening in their tiny Pennsylvania town. The writing was so good that I was very willing to go along with the unusual and far-out concept of the plot.
This novel is Book 1 of a trilogy, and the rest of the audiobooks are not yet available at the time of this posting. The end is not quite a cliffhanger, but it leaves me with lots of questions and eagerly awaiting the next book. This book has death, destruction, and fantasy elements. I think it is a thrilling emotional rollercoaster that is less dark overall than “The Hunger Games”.
Austenne Grey delivers a perfect narration performance. I have never heard her before, but I definitely will consider buying her other work. She has a lovely voice for Flora and distinctive and believable voices for everyone else. She is very versatile, is fantastic at pacing, and is excellent at conveying all the emotions.
Trigger Warning note and slight spoiler: There are a few instances of bullying in the book. There was one instance of the forced removal of the clothing of a minor in a way that was some form of assault. There are multiple instances of violence, including rioting and descriptions of bodies that had been killed violently.

I enjoyed this debut novel, The Lightning Tree, Book One of The Natural Revolution Trilogy, by Lene Fogelberg. The story begins with backstory, the tragic accident of Flora’s younger sister, then continues a year later. In the aftermath of strange deaths, Flora realizes they are not the work of a serial killer but rather nature’s attack on humans. But with all the commotion, it’s not easy to prove.

Flora, the likeable protagonist, demonstrates a caring and compassion for her injured younger sister and connects with her on a whole new level. This connection helps Flora understand what is occurring and gives her insight into how to deal with it. A fast-paced, well-told story that escalates quickly and keeps on running. Put this magic realism book high on your to be read list

This was my first Lene Fogelberg's book. The writing is imaginative, and enthralling. This is the first installment in The Natural Intelligence Revolution Trilogy, a Youg Adult Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Dystopian Thriller. The story is breathtakingly well written, complex, emotional, and captivating. The characters are impressively well developed, and highly intriguing. I liked Flora, Carl, and Fauna. The storyline is filled with angst, drama, mystery, action, suspense, and unpredictable twists and turns. I liked the little romance in the story. Austenne Grey did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. She has a beautiful voice, very pleasant to listen to. The audio production is perfect. Looking forward to listening to the next installment. I highly recommend it. #FiresideAudio

Intriguing & Thought Provoking! Exceptional Narration🎧

The Lightning Tree
The NI Revolution Trilogy, Book 1
By: Lene Fogelberg
Narrated by: Austenne Grey

Wow, this story just blew me away, I can't believe this is the author’s debut novel, she is a gifted author with impressive writing skills and an imaginative mind. The story she created is original, with interesting storylines that grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book. I adored the lead character, Flora Reed, who was amazing, her sister, Fauna, and friend Carl were amazing in their own ways too. Flora saw her younger sister climbing the old oak tree in their front yard during a storm, she was not listening to her to come down, so she went to get her, but it was too late and she could not get to her in time. That night changed both their lives, and it left them scarred in more ways than one. Even the townspeople look at Flora differently, but she has her close friend, Carl, who is always there for her. When some bizarre things happen around her, she puts it all together, and it seems the night with her sister was just the start of what was coming. This is the first book of “The Natural Intelligence Revolution” trilogy, and it lays down the foundation for the series and for what is coming which I am looking forward to. This cleverly plotted young adult, SciFi, fantasy novel has the perfect balance of drama, angst, mystery, action, thrilling suspense, heartfelt emotions, and just a touch of romance. Lene Fogelberg, thank you for this intriguing and thought provoking story.

🎧📚🎧 And for the exceptional narration, Austenne Grey is a versatile voice artist and her talent truly shines as she brings these characters and story to life. She had a complete understanding of the characters she was portraying, giving each their own distinct voice, that not only fit that character’s persona to a tee, but she made it easy to follow along and tell who was who. Her character voices are amazing, from her young adult to an older person, whether it be a male or female role, she was believable in each one. She handled the dialogue naturally and switched roles effortlessly without missing a beat. Austenne Grey is an entertaining storyteller, and she enhances this story to another level of amazing. Thank you for this fantastic listen, it was a pleasure to listen to.

The Lightning Tree
The NI Revolution Trilogy, Book 1
By: Lene Fogelberg
Narrated by: Austenne Grey

This story had me from the first scene. I didn't know what to expect, but Lene Fogelberg has captured my attention and left me with unanswered questions and the need for the next in the trilogy! Flora and Fauna are sisters who lives are filled with tragedy. When Fauna falls from a tree that the two are playing on during a lightning storm, their lives would forever be changed. Flora is now faced with stares and uncomfortable situations, except when with her next door neighbor Carl. He seems to be the calming effect. Now things are heating up, people are dying and there is no explanation as to why. But Fauna and Flora know. Can they convince anyone of the real problems that are happening? This is complex story, with a lot going on, so it's one you have to pay attention to. It's a little sci fi, definite dystopia and a little romance could be in the air. It's a tragedy at best, and I could not stop listening! I need the answers, and while a few crumbs have been fed to me, I need more! I cannot wait until the next installment.

Austenne Grey is phenomenal as the narrator of this story. Her array of voices is spot on, from young adult, to older man. She tunes into each one, giving them a distinct voice that matches the character. She is perfectly cast for this trilogy!

The Lightning Tree (The NI Revolution Trilogy Book 1) by Lene Fogelberg features the teenage sisters of Flora and Fauna. A horrible accident occurs, and soon Flora finds herself on her own. The one saving grace is her neighbor Carl, with whom she is friends. However, things start to become troubling as bodies are piling up, and Carl is the main suspect. Flora doesn't believe this of course, and the stage is set for an intriguing story that combines many elements from nature, romance, and trauma to the supernatural. The writing manages to capture the teenage angst, the unpredictability of what might happen, and a certain level of tension. This book is more than an environmental thriller; it's a well-executed and captivating read suitable for both teenage and adult audiences. Recommended.

Wow. A different story that kept me intrigued. Lene Fogelberg is very descriptive writing about this fight between man and nature. The writing just blew me away
This story is full of symbolism, Flora and Fauna are sisters spiritually connected to themselves and nature.
Austenne Grey emotional, narration of this story is phenomenal. I can't express enough what a wonderful storyteller she is. Very well done.

I’ve had the pleasure of reading the Lightning tree, a novel that captured my attention from the first page. In no time I had finished it (that’s the worst with good books, they end too soon!).

It was fast paced and I quickly found myself engaged in this intriguing story about Flora, who is separated from her younger sister Fauna, by a tragic accident. Life is forever changed, loneliness, feelings of guilt and loss tear at her heart, and people in town whisper and look at her differently. It’s hard to go on, but Flora finds comfort in the company of her new friend Carl, the outgoing, fun loving (and very cute) boy who’s moved into the neighborhood, and who for some reason wants to be her loyal friend – she, who likes to keep to herself, help out at her mom’s bookstore in town, instead of hanging out with friends. Also, she might be going crazy, because she could swear she heard, or rather felt, her sister call her name when she climbed the oak tree by her house.

Then, just when summer break is about to begin, terrible deaths strike the community, and Flora and Carl find themselves in the middle of the investigation. Trying to unravel the mystery, Flora has to explore her newfound abilities and discover the frightening truth. Is it too late?

Even though the story was fast paced, the author managed to paint a vivid picture in my mind of the characters and the places. And I often wanted to go back and linger on words and phrases that especially tickled my imagination, created a mystery or just were especially beautiful to read. Such a great blend of beautiful language and an exciting story.

I loved how the book awakened memories of my own childhood, playing in the woods with my sisters, and how the story felt realistic in a way. Since I read it, I actually seem to keep finding fascinating “evidence” of how nature is communicating and feeling. You’ll never look at a tree the same way again, after reading this.
I can’t wait to read the next book! All my questions need answers!

I've read Lene's memoir "A Beautiful Affliction" several times because I loved it so much, and I was thrilled to receive the ARC of her new YA novel, "The Lightning Tree," from the publisher. Upon reading the ARC, however, my frustrations quickly kicked in—the dang digital document was locked, so it wouldn't let me underline all the things I loved extra hard! ;) This novel ticked so many boxes for me. A few of those boxes: an intriguing storyline, captivating language, and great pacing that makes for a page-turning read. Extra heart points for the romance between main characters Flora and Carl (though Flora apparently doesn't know that cute boy as well as she thought!). I got goosebumps in plenty of spots, especially while reading Fauna's Point of View; the tension and pulse of her voice interlaced with Flora's really elevated the narrative for me. I hope book two and three are released soon because we all need to know what happens to Flora, Fauna, and their loved ones! Oh, and if the world survives the Natural Intelligence revolution, of course (details, details). Thank you, Lene, for another great read!

Wow! I am still processing what I read! Great book! Well written. The story I felt was unique, it left you guessing till the end. Actually I still am guessing but am hoping my questions will be answered in the next book. Flora is a 17 year old who has gone through some trauma this last year. With the trauma and her quiet nature Flora has only allowed one person into her life. The foster boy next door Carl who nicknames her Flower-girl. There are some gruesome scenes in this book but the author does a great job of letting us experience them without being gory. If you are in the mood for something new then I say read The Lightning Tree.

An environmental thriller/adventure. This was a quick read for me I was curious throughout the story of where it was going and it definitely left off on a huge cliff hanger which has me intrigued to pick up book two in The Natural Intelligence Revolution Trilogy. I love that nature is a main protagonist, even though it’s labeled as a young adult. I found myself thinking middle schoolers would enjoy this one as well and could lead to important conversations about our climate today and the future.

I really enjoyed this story! It is so imaginative! I loved the twist the author put in here referring to “marks”. This one really surprised me! There is soooo much more than what is in the synopsis. They idea of what this author wrote about just had me thinking the rest of the day!

There is a wonderful cast of characters. We learn more about them as the story rolls along. I did listen to this on audio. The narration is well done by a new to me narrator. Austenne Grey did a wonderful job and is easy to listen to.

I look forward to the next in the series.

Whoa

This book had me hooked. The author did a great job with the storyline flow and details. The last few moments had me holding my breath from the anxiety of what was going to happen. This is kinda a cliffhanger but not one where it fells like the author just cut a complete book in half just because. It ends at a great point for the next installment because Carl owes us some answers.

What a fantastic writing style Fogelberg has. I don’t normally like stories in first person but this was great. I was gripped from the first page until the last. Every page was gripped with tension. Bit of a cliffhanger as you will have to read the next book to find out what happens - which I will definitely be doing. 5 ⭐️ from and a big 👍

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is an honest review. Impeccably narrated by Austenne Grey, The Lightning Tree is a harrowing, poignant and emotionally profound story of sisters Flora and Fona and how their lives are hauntingly altered from the moment the lightning struck the tree they were in and around. While both survived, the accident left Fona in a vegetative state yet connected to nature while Flora is viewed by those of their small town as a freak- as she and Fona are marked with "lightning scars". From the moment the body of Jack is found dead in a tree at Flora's home, everything is plunged into chaos a people come believe a serial killer is putting its prey in the trees while others are dangerously convinced that Flora and Fona are behind the shocking murders and are willing to cut down every tree and assault the young women in desperate hope to rid their town of this terror. In determination to clear their names and protect her friends, what Flora and Carl discover is that nature itself is now coming for humanity and making it pay for all of the death we have brought down upon it. Enthralling and deeply mesmerizing... most definitely highly recommended.

I was privileged to read the ARC of this book and was completely riveted! It is based on a profound concept: that we have pillaged and manipulated nature for so long that it’s finally rising up against us.
Brilliant!

The story captured me from start to finish: the tender relationship between the protagonist, Flora, and her younger sister, Fauna; the budding love story between Flora and her street-wise sidekick, Carl; and of course, the elements of intensity and suspense. In parts, it is truly a heart-pounding thrill ride!

The story also has a mystical layer that I especially loved: Fauna’s spiritual connection to trees, and the deep connection between the sisters. In addition, there are numerous intriguing questions left to be answered at the end of book one. I definitely can’t wait to see how they’re addressed in book two!

I’m an adult, and I would say this is probably more geared to 15+, only because a few scenes do depict death in a graphic way. But I would also say most of the television teens watch is far more disturbing than the handful of scenes in The Lightning Tree that show the ramifications of the trees’ attacks on humans. Also, for the person who flagged it for “swearing,” there is no foul language besides the words “crap” and “damn,” both of which are used in only a handful of places. It definitely meets the proper language criteria for a YA title, so I’m not sure why she called out a warning for that.

Overall, the plot is tight, the characters are well-drawn, and the pacing is fully engaging, piquing questions all along the way. Lene is an outstanding writer, and I CANNOT wait for the release of the second book in the trilogy!

This book captured my interest from page one. I loved the relationships, characters, plot, and multiple POVs. Flora and Fauna’s dual POVs were both intriguing & haunting.
Their relationship as sisters was so strong and powerful!

I definitely found the “nature strikes back” twist to be interesting! This made nature my favorite character!
Honestly, I enjoyed the creepiness of it all! It was heartbreaking, but also added a great mystery!

I was surprised by the ending which has made me incredibly anxious for book two!
For fans of The Nature of Witches, you’ll love this short debut book!!

Prepare to be sucked in! I had a really hard time doing anything in my real life while engrossed in this novel. My family may have eaten cereal many times for dinner, lol. Seriously, this book has everything you want in a YA novel, intrigue, suspense, complicated and imperfect relationships, interesting characters, and a little romance. I loved Fauna’s poetic voice from the beginning! The idea of nature rising up against destructive humanity is a unique and timely storyline.
