Sorcery of Thorns #1.5

Mysteries of Thorn Manor

Rate this book
Elisabeth Scrivener is finally settling into her new life with sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn. Now that their demon companion Silas has returned, so has scrutiny from nosy reporters hungry for gossip about the city's most powerful sorcerer and the librarian who stole his heart. But something strange is afoot at Thorn Manor: the estate's wards, which are meant to keep their home safe, are acting up and forcibly trapping the Manor's occupants inside. Surely it must be a coincidence that this happened just as Nathaniel and Elisabeth started getting closer to one another...

With no access to the outside world, Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas - along with their new maid Mercy - will have to work together to discover the source of the magic behind the malfunctioning wards before they're due to host the city's Midwinter Ball. Not an easy task when the house is filled with unexpected secrets, and all Elisabeth can think about is kissing Nathaniel in peace. But when it becomes clear that the house, influenced by the magic of Nathaniel's ancestors, requires a price for its obedience, Elisabeth and Nathaniel will have to lean on their connection like never before to set things right.

In this delightful sequel novella to the New York Times bestselling Sorcery of Thorns, Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas must unravel the magical trap keeping them inside Thorn Manor in time for their Midwinter Ball!

Hi, everyone- I'm so excited that ARCs of Mysteries of Thorn Manor are soon to be out in the world! Mysteries takes place about two months after Sorcery's epilogue and is a cozy, romantic comfort read that reveals previously untold secrets about the world and characters. It isn't a full length sequel (or a true sequel at all, I would argue), but rather a bonus novella with a lighthearted mystery/romance plot. This story is perfect for anyone who would like to spend more time with Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas, and see what their daily life is like without any life-threatening* plots looming overhead… though Nathaniel would argue that hosting the Midwinter Ball does, indeed, have the potential to be life-threatening, and is certainly a plot against him.

Those of you who like Sorcery's ending just the way it is, particularly the ambiguity of the final paragraph, can regard this novella as something akin to author written fanfiction. Personally I love Sorcery's open ending and hadn't planned to revisit the story—but as you can probably guess by the novella's premise, Covid isolation gave me other ideas. At the time I was badly struggling with depression, and used Mysteries as an escape and exercise to help rebuild some confidence in my writing. Upon finishing it and emailing it to my editor, I never imagined that my publisher would want to release it as anything more than an ebook, so I'm thrilled that it will be coming to you in physical form. I hope it brings you as much joy and comfort as it did to me back then.

Mysteries of Thorn Manor comes out on January 17, 2023, and is available to preorder now. Within these pages you will find magical secrets, temperamental grimoires, evil pajamas, a dancing lesson, and my favorite kissing scene I’ve ever written.

*It may be worth noting that Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas have a much different idea of what constitutes "life-threatening" than the average person...

was this book needed? not really. but am i glad it exists? absolutely.

i do wish this was a full on sequel, rather than a companion novella. but it was so enjoyable to be back in the world of thorn manor and see elisabeth, nathaniel, and silas again.

i think readers who are nostalgic for all the feelings ‘a sorcery of thorns’ gave and were wanting an extended epilogue will really enjoy this short story!

#1 Sorcery of Thorns ★★★★★
#1.5 Mysteries of Thorn Manor ★★★★★

“I do have some standards, contrary to popular opinion. I’m not about to sit back and watch my house turn into a prude.”

Oh, this was perfect. Absolutely beyond perfect in every single way. It was soft, and sweet, and warm, and comforting, and full of so much wonder and magic and love. This is a book I'm going to reach for time and time again when the world feels like too much and I need to be wrapped in a cozy hug by these pages. Thank you for creating this novella, Margaret. ♥ Much like Sorcery of Thorns reminded me of the power books wield, Mysteries of Thorn Manor reminded me of the love they carry, too.

She felt, with a passion that tore at her, that she could make a real difference: that given the chance, she could find a way to protect both humans and books equally.

I had only re-read Sorcery a few short weeks before picking up this novella, and yet I still found that I had missed Elisabeth so very much. Margaret has a way of writing my very favorite heroines, and Elisabeth, with all of her spunk and bravery and protective nature, is by far one of my most cherished fictional characters of all. This novella highlighted so much of her charm, most of all showing us the way she slowly learns to live with a heart that is so big and so full of adoration for her little family, she can hardly stand it.

“When I die in pursuit of your favor, make sure the obituary mentions that it wasn’t for my lack of razor-sharp wit and keenly honed reflexes.”

And Nathaniel... I laughed so hard and so often throughout this short little book, because his wit absolutely shines here. Mysteries of Thorn Manor depicts so much domestic bliss that we really get a chance to see how silly and playful he is with Elisabeth on a daily basis, and it's delightful. It felt so genuine, like looking into a real, breathing romance between two goofy best friends, and I adored it.

Silas glanced at her from beneath his lashes. “I’m afraid he was one of the worst of all. He left fingerprints on the silver.”

And then, of course, I couldn't finish this review without touching on Silas. He's so precious to me, and I adored the sweet, tender moments between him and Elisabeth. I'm a tremendous sucker for intimate found family moments, and we get plenty of those in this novella. (Plus, make sure you don't skip the epilogue! 👀)

Elisabeth couldn’t answer. She was having the complicated realization that she still wanted to kiss Nathaniel even while he was wearing an old lady’s hideous dressing gown.

Truly, every single page of this novella was everything I hoped it would be and so much more. If you've ever thought to yourself that you wished more authors would write cozy fantasy follow-ups to show off the domestic lives of our favorite characters, this is the story for you, because it genuinely is one big, sweet hug in the form of a story. I laughed, I melted, and I shamelessly cried happy tears more than once within this short span of pages. I could not possibly recommend this book more highly and I have once again been reminded of why Margaret is now and forevermore one of my favorite authors of all time.

All quotes come from an advance copy and may not match the final release. Thank you to the author and publisher for the review copy! All thoughts are honest and my own.

Even though she knew this was a ridiculous thing to think, she felt as though kissing were something they had discovered—a marvelous secret that only they knew, and were inventing as they went along.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This review is spoiler-free

Before I begin rambling like a lunatic about how incredible this novella is, I have to address one very important point. Charlie Bowater is a magnificent artist and I love her art so much that I have this irresistible impulse to buy any book with it on the cover without even reading a synopsis. 😌👌🏻

Moreover, like I've said already, this novella is incredible. Admittedly, I do have a special love for this kind of novella, the one that comes after full-length novels. There is just something so charming about reading a story about what my favourite characters are up to after their ordeals, one with very little conflict and an abundance of wholesome moments that make me want to squeal. Well, Margaret Rogerson definitely delivered with this one and I now need more. Since the book only came out a few weeks ago, I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't read it yet. Therefore, all I am going to say is, this was the cutest most chaotic novella I've read recently and I couldn't possibly love it more.

I am more than happy to report that my babies haven't changed one bit. They are every bit the chaotic good they've been in the first book, and just as witty and lovable. Sweet, sweet Elisabeth is a cure for the soul, with her compassion and loyalty, and the way she keeps dotting on Nathaniel like he is the most precious thing in the world (because he is!) and how much she cares for Silas and Mercy, unfazed by the fact that he is a literal demon and she is a servant girl that most would never look at twice.

Nathaniel is still the same suave, intelligent, and devilishly handsome boy that deserves all the love and fortune the universe has to offer. Every page becomes a thousand times better whenever he makes an appearance. His quick wit, wicked smile, and those delightful terms of endearment were and will always be the best thing that happened to modern literature. No, I'm not exaggerating. I said what I said. Also, he dotes on Elisabeth just as much as she dotes on him and if that isn't precious I don't know what else could be.

Naturally, the romance is as wholesome as everything and everyone else in this novella. Nathaniel and Elisabeth are basically just simps who cannot keep their hands away from each other for too long and that more than anything makes my heart swell with joy every time I think about it (or reread it 👀👀). While it is still a clean romance, the same longing and passion remain. It all has the same effect it did in the first book, maybe even more so now that they are officially together and away from serious trouble. 👀👀 Once again, those terms of endearment Nathaniel keeps using are just marvelous and probably my favourite part of their relationship. (I know I've mentioned them before but that's just how vital they are!!) Honestly, if, through some godsend miracle, Margaret Rogerson publishes another novella or full-length novel - I would definitely not hate that - I would love to explore their relationship some more, maybe how they'll be and what they'll be doing together years from now.

Last but not least, my demon boy, Silas, the occasionally murderous gentleman that protects my favourite weirdos with his immortal life, just proved that he still owns my heart and soul in the exact same way he owns Nathaniel's and Elisabeth's. If Sorcery of Thorns wasn't proof enough, this novella has all the evidence of just how much of an evil genius this demon is and how much he truly loves and cares about his bound charges. Seriously, the bond isn't even necessary at this point, if only to keep him on the same plane as his Master and Mistress. I did get the impression that there might be more to his story than we already know, that maybe there's another novel or novella coming our way at some point, but I admit it might just be wishful thinking on my part. Who knows, though? I guess only time will tell. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

so cute. super cute. just really fkn cute.

THIS is how you write a good novella. it complements sorcery of thorns so well. it doesn’t try to introduce a major plot point but rather focuses on the characters and their relationships with each other. the elisabeth nathaniel scenes were everything, i adore them 🥹

“this was one of the things she loved best about books. she might never know who had written the dedication, or how long ago, or to whom, but she could briefly clasp hands with them across eternity, a chance meeting of souls made possible by their shared love of a story.”

“‘not every story has a happy ending,’ she offered. ‘but most do, if you’re brave enough to keep reading to the end.’”

“‘if anything goes wrong, i have a sword.’ he took her in, his eyes sparkling. ‘that’s my girl.’”

“to those who believe in fairy-tale endings”

aw how cute 🥹

better be good

Mysteries of Thorn Manor takes place a few months after the end of Sorcery of Thorns. Elisabeth and Nathaniel are living a mostly quiet and mundane life in the manor, until the day they wake up to the manor having barricaded itself against the outside world. No one can come in or leave the manor, and things only seem to get worse when violent topiaries and deadly winds get thrown into the mix. Elisabeth and Nathaniel must figure out why the manor reacted this way, and how to fix it before somebody gets hurt.

“Thank you,” Elisabeth said formally to the door. She supposed one ought to be polite to potentially sentient magical houses, as well as books.
“There’s no need to thank me, Scrivener,” Nathaniel said from the floor. He was still peering into cracks in the baseboard, creeping along on his hands and knees. “I’ll get down on all fours for you whenever you like.”
Without taking her eyes from the door, Elisabeth reached down, took him by the arm, and lifted him to his feet.

This novella focuses more on the romance between Elisabeth and Nathaniel, and their everyday life at the Thorn manor, now that Ashcroft is no longer a threat. I liked that it showed us more about Elisabeth and Nathaniel’s relationship since the romance was secondary in the first book, and it was adorable to see them both fall even more in love with each other and try to figure out where to go from there. Elisabeth and Nathaniel are simply adorable together, they tease each other and are authentic, and they also have each other’s back no matter what. It’s a healthy and strong relationship that I hope to see more of in a second book maybe? (fingers crossed)

“There might be a weapon to go along with the armor.”
“That’s just what we need, for you to get hold of a broadsword cursed by one of my evil ancestors. Scrivener, I know this goes against your red-blooded warrior nature, but if you see anything pointy, please make an effort to resist.”

The plot is secondary in this novella, it’s all about cuteness, funny moments, and an overall heartwarming feeling. It was such a nice read, and it was amazing to be back in the world of Sorcery of Thorns. Elisabeth is still driven, headstrong, and a menace most days, Nathaniel is still cocky and cute at the same time, and the manor’s household is even expanding in this novella, so there are more characters to meet.

Mercy skidded into view at the end of the hallway. Her face hardened at the sight of the approaching forces. Bravely, she raised her mop.
“Mercy, run!” Elisabeth bellowed.
“No, save us!” Nathaniel yelled.
Mercy went a shade paler. “Are those bloomers?” she shouted.

I am usually very picky when it comes to novellas because I always feel that the plot is too weak and I am left a little unsatisfied, but I have to say that while the plot is simplistic here, I was just so happy to see more of Nathaniel, Elisabeth, and Silas and it was just so wholesome, that I am not even complaining about the short length!

This was a delightfully fluffy romp back in a favorite, cozy fantasy world. It felt wonderful being reconnected with Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas under low stakes and mysterious circumstances. My only gripe is that I needed more! No spoilers, but the ending leaves things open with Silas and I’m hoping this means even more tales in this beloved setting to settle old scores. Regardless, this one had all the feels, all the swoons, and was essentially like being wrapped in a warm hug with a cup of your favorite warm beverage by a roaring fire. Highly recommended to fans of Sorcery of Thorns!

Sorcery of Thorns ★★★★

“When she opened it, she discovered a handwritten dedication on the patterned endpapers: To my beloved—may you always believe in fairy tales. Smiling, she traced her fingers over the letters, feeling the indentations they had left on the paper. This was one of the things she loved best about books. She might never know who had written the dedication, or how long ago, or to whom, but she could briefly clasp hands with them across eternity, a chance meeting of souls made possible by their shared love of a story.”

this was a super cozy and fun novella that i really recommend if you're missing the amazing characters from sorcery of thorns. and you all know that i adore a magical house setting and exploring all the magical rooms, with some very alive grimoires! but to see it with my favorite sorcerer, apprentice librarian, demon (and a new character)... who are stuck inside this labyrinth during the snowy season? i really was living my best reader life. but sadly, i just didn't love the last half nearly as much as the set up and first half.

this is a very quick, cozy, happy read. and the food descriptions were perfection as well. Elisabeth is just a really good character and i really hope we continue to see more adventures with her and this crew (and demonslayer)! but also, this (in my praying opinion) is a very nice set up for my favorite morally grey demon companion.

i still highly recommend this one, especially on a cozy wintery night!

cw/tw: blood depiction, harm to get blood for magic, grief + trauma depictions, extreme nightmares, loss of a loved on in the past, talk of murders/death. (this is a very light book, and all of these things are very briefly mentioned or shown)

Margaret truly said ''You guys don't need to look for fluff on AO3, Imma give you some canon fluff''

“Nathaniel,” she whispered. “Nathaniel. There’s a goblin in your attic.”
“What? Oh.” He laughed. “No, that’s just Aunt Clothilde.”

I truly appreciate novellas like these. It’s nice to come back to the world without a standalone being turned into a series just for the purpose of selling more copies or just plain fan service. This is my type of fan service; it adds to the story without turning it into something other than what it previously was. It was cute and funny. I hope we do get some sort of companion novels about new characters taking place in this same world someday.

The bisexual sorcerer and Demon Cat are always a plus, of course

I’m on BookTube now! =)

Nathaniel roamed over, already lifting his chin for Silas’s assault on his cravat. “Some of the guests are visiting from outside of Brassbridge, so they expect us to host them for the night. Silas, if you’ve ever wanted to strangle me, now would be the time.”

AHH! I have no words for how much I love those two and their relationship! Their dynamic is impeccable and I honestly don’t know how this is possible, but I adore them even more after reading this short novella! There’ just something about the Nathaniel/Silas/Elisabeth dynamic that works so effortlessly and makes my heart feel like it might burst with happiness. I know this book is only 192 pages, but for me they were all pages of sheer bliss. I’ve been dying to read more of this world and the characters ever since I finished “Sorcery of Thorns” in March 2022 and when I heard that there was going to be a sequel I was over the moon.

”But even thought I don’t believe he would harm a member of this household, I wasn’t about to weigh my trust in him against Mercy’s life. Silas understands that.” And he might even approve, Elisabeth thought. She still didn’t fully grasp the strange dance that went on between them, the delicate balance they maintained between danger and understanding. Perhaps she never would. No matter how much she trusted Silas, she would never do so with the same complexity as Nathaniel, who had seen the demon kill his own father – and afterward, had immediately summoned him back.

I mean, the world building is awesome and the characters and their relationships are so complex it brings me joy just to read about them. You rarely see such strong relationships portrayed in a standalone book so Margaret Rogerson achieved something amazing by writing “Sorcery of Thorns”. “Mysteries of Thorn Manor” might not have had the biggest plot, but it has heart and it’s just very wholesome to read about how much Nathaniel and Elisabeth care about each other. Also there’s Mercy and Silas who have quite the interesting relationship as well. I think it’s good Mercy is a part of the household now, but for Silas who is used to doing everything himself she might have been a little bit too much to handle at first. Well, I’m glad he agreed not to kill her and bury her in the back garden. *lol*

”If Elisabeth watched him steadily enough without interruption, she began to grow aware of something different about him, though she couldn’t explain exactly what: only that he seemed to fade, to become thinner and more insubstantial. At times she imagined she glimpsed pain lurking deep in his yellow eyes, as difficult to interpret as the impassive gaze of a wounded feline.”

I think one of the most interesting things about this novella is the fact that we know something is different with Silas, but that we’re not allowed to grasp what exactly it is. If you ask me Margaret Rogerson teased us with this novella because the ending left me with a lot of question marks and wondering if there’s going to be a second book. There are still so many mysteries left and I personally wouldn’t mind to get an entire book told from Silas’s POV. Actually, I’d be more than just ready to dive into that. XD

At last his cold, soft voice broke the silence. “Her wardrobe, Master Thorn. I shall not go near it. It is a stain upon your house. Never before or since have I beheld garments so disgracefully out of fashion.”

I mean that man!!! I love how offended he gets by the horrible fashion styles of other people and his duality is so damn intriguing. On the one hand he’s a demon who doesn’t hesitate to kill someone when he deems it necessary in defence of his charges and on the other hand he shudders when he’s forced to witness a fashion disaster! *lol* How could you not love a man like that?! I love that he’s so cunning and secretive and always wants what’s best for Nathaniel and Elisabeth. He is a demon, but he’s a demon with a soul that decided that those two people are the most important thing for him. There’s literally nothing he wouldn’t do for them and the feeling is mutual which makes everything even more intense and precious.

”And she recalled the peace on his face when he walked into the Archon’s circle, embracing his own destruction. There was a mercy afforded mortals that Silas would never receive. He would never be the one to die first. Her throat aching, she brought his hand to her lips and kissed it. His pale skin was as cold and flawless as alabaster. She could feel his claws, and even those were dear to her.

Elisabeth and Silas had so many lovely moments in this book and it made me so happy that the focus of the novella was on the relationships between the three MCs. The way Elisabeth loves Nathaniel and Silas so fiercely made my heart feel full, and to know they both return her feelings was like the icing on the cake! Nathaniel might be bad at talking about his affection and feelings, but he loves Elisabeth and you could see it in every single one of his gestures. He’s a man that might not be able to speak the words but he showed it with his actions every day. I’m just glad Elisabeth knows this too. =)

”Nathaniel looked at her in astonishment, as though she were the one who had worked magic, not him. She set Demonslayer down and clambered straight onto the bed. A moment later she was gathering him into her arms, holding him tightly.

Also, I really like that both Nathaniel and Elisabeth can hold their own and are capable of defending themselves. Yet, they are still vulnerable around each other and Nathaniel is able to show weakness in front of Elisabeth. She would never judge him and that makes their relationship so beautiful and precious. And Silas, well he’s something else and I was so here for it! Seriously! Please give me an entire book about Silas! I need to hear his POV and his thoughts! <3 Oh and if we’re already at it I need to know what happened when he was with the Archon and what ails him. I have so many questions and I want them all to be answered!!!

”I’m sorry,” she said, her face buried against his shoulder.
“It is well.”
It wasn’t. She loved him. She loved him as much as she did Nathaniel, with an intensity almost too powerful to bear. What did it mean to love a demon? Not merely to care for him, pity him – but to love him?

Conclusion:

All told I loved “Mysteries of Thorn Manor” and had an awesome time with this additional novella. It was exactly what I needed after craving for more when I finished “Sorcery of Thorns”. I really enjoyed getting more of the Elisabeth/Nathaniel/Silas dynamics and to see how everything continued after the first book ended. Still, after THIS kind of epilogue, I can’t help but want even more and I dunno if it’s realistic but if you read this Margaret, can you please write a book about Silas!!! *making huge puppy eyes* (You can always hope and dream.)
Bottom line: If you enjoyed “Sorcery of Thorns” I have no doubt you’ll love this one as well! <3

“not every story has a happy ending, but most do, if you’re brave enough to keep reading until the end.”

this was so cute🥹. i loved how it’s more of a character focused novella and i was so happy to be back in this world with Elisabeth, Nathaniel and Silas. i forgot how clueless and chaotic Nathaniel is lol😭.. he’s a sweetheart tho. Elisabeth is so attentive to those around her and she proves that even more here. but if there’s one thing Silas is gonna do, it’s make threats like the icon he is 💅🏽.

i firmly believe that Margaret Rogerson can do no wrong. come on girl, I’m waiting on a new realese.. give it to me please and thank you. all her books give me this feeling of escapism in a way that i just adore. ✨

since this was only 184 pages, there isn't much to say haha, but overall it was so sweet. it luckily doesn't "open" any new plots, while leaving me feeling satisfied with what I've got. I read it in one sitting and had such a fun time <3

seeing Nathaniel and Elisabeth really live together and experience their daily lives was the best thing ever. the book was about them really realising how much they love each other. I was so glad to see Nathaniel be more in touch with his feelings and verbally voicing them. it was so much fun to be reacquainted with him and his funny but also loving sides. Elisabeth was as brave and brilliant as ever, again caring so much for everyone around her. I'd love to have her as a friend. I hadn't thought it possible, but their bond grew even tighter in this novella.
Silas was again such a loveable side character. even though he's a demon mostly incapable of real feelings, he's still able to show that he does care about the people around him, which is amazing. I loved reading about him only being a servant and friend without any problems he has to figure out, it's what he deserves.

so, to everyone who has read sorcery of thorns: READ THIS NOW!! it's such a comforting book.

A cute little novella about how Elisabeth and Nathanial navigate life in their new home.

Pretty cutesy at times, but with plenty of magic and fun.

I enjoyed this extra peak into The Sorcery of Thorns world.

“There’s no need to thank me, Scrivener,” Nathaniel said from the floor. He was still peering into cracks in the baseboard, creeping along on his hands and knees. “I’ll get down on all fours for you whenever you like.”

theyre so in love its disgusting- i need more

"Not every story has a happy ending, but most do, if you're brave enough to keep reading to the end."

°•*⁀➷

This was quite literally one of the softest short stories I have ever read. I fell so hard for Elisabeth and Nathaniel in Sorcery of Thorns, and this little companion story only confirms why that was so incredibly right of me. They're happy, they're courting, they're finally ice skating... and they're so domesticated that I may need a few moments to restart my heart from all the soft.

The thing is, that's not all that happened. Somehow.

You see, the estate is acting up. Silas is back, but different. Nosy reporters are still trying to find out all the juicy gossip, and everyone is constantly being locked in the house without an absolute solution to keeping the doors open. With a party looming, that is the most important question to find an answer for.

In the search for that, we also end up with so many new questions that I hope more than anything we're going to get an answer for. Do you hear me Margaret Rogerson?!

I want more!!!

22/01/23:

ARC copy provided in exchange for an honest review, in no way affecting my rating or review.

4.5 stars!

This was just the cutest little extended epilogue ever. It is what every reader hopes for from their favourite universes - a little novella of pure fluff and domestic bliss: drama-free, funny, sweet and so much fun. My darling characters are as cute as I remember, with such a fun relationship and so much love for one another, and every sentence involving my baby Silas filled me with joy. I adored literally everything, and honestly giggled out loud a few times. So fun!!

~~~
16/01/23: guess who got an arc WOOO I’M WINNING!!
~~~

27/12/22: YES YES YES i missed my babies so much!

Bref : parfait parfait parfait !!!!

“Not every story has a happy ending,” she offered. “But most do, if you’re brave enough to keep reading to the end.”

Omg this was such a cute and fluffy read. I had so much fun listening to the audiobook and it was just this kind of book that instantly made me feel better.

This novella is set a few months after the end of Sorcery of Thorns and we are once again following Elisabeth and Nathaniel as they settle into their new lives with each other. Silas, their demon companion, has returned, but something strange is happening at Thorn Manor. The wards are acting up; instead of protecting the occupants, they are keeping them locked up inside and they have no idea why that started happening since it surely has nothing to do with the fact that they’ve just started getting closer. Trapped and with no way of accessing the outside world, they must figure out what is happening before they’re due to host the city’s Midwinter Ball.

I’m gonna be honest, before I started reading this, I didn’t really remember much from the previous book so I did have to read a couple summaries I found online, but after I started remembering who the characters were and what had happened, I was so happy to be back into this world. I really liked Sorcery of Thorns when I first read it, so the moment I picked this up I knew that I was going to love it and that I would love seeing what happened to these characters I loved.

“She would battle villains, demons, monsters to keep him safe. If she could, she would even battle his memories.”

This story was just fluff and I was here for it. I just loved seeing the romance between Elisabeth and Nathaniel develop even more and their interactions with each other were just the best thing ever. There were so many times when I was honestly giggling out loud. Their relationship it’s just so cute with the teasing and the way they support each other no matter what.

Silas was a character I really liked while reading Sorcery of Thorns and my feelings on his haven’t changed and will never change. While he keeps claiming that he is a demon and to not be fooled, I still fully believe that he cares for and cherishes Nathaniel and Elisabeth. He does so much for both of them and he will help them with anything even if they don’t ask for his help.

The ending of this novella was honestly perfect. I can't believe Silas actually did this, but I’m so happy he did what he did. His meddling is honestly hilarious and I’m grateful for it. He did what had to be done, to be honest. Speaking of the ending, maybe I’m looking through much in it, but it doesn’t really feel like our time in this world is over. With how the other ended it, it looks like there could be potential plans for another novella or maybe even another novel? Maybe I just want another book in this world, so I’m overthinking it, but I fully believe that in this case there’s room for more stories. Either way, I’ll be content with what Margaret Rogerson decides to do next.
